Date Night Blouse

For date night I wore this blouse I made using a 1983 vintage pattern, 8802 Stitch 'N Save by McCall's. Comfy, classic style. Jeans and Roper Boots were thrifted.

Modern Patterns With Vintage Style

I am so excited to share with you one of my favorite Indie designers, Laura Nash of Sew Chic Pattern Company. Laura is a gifted designer. She incorporates classic vintage style in a modern way, styles that are wearable in the marketplace as well as the workplace for women of every age. She has added special and even unusual details all of which are directly inspired by the first half of the 20th century. They are feminine, elegant and modest. One of the wonderful things about the vintage vibe of her designs is that there is a flattering silhouette for every figure type.

Below are just a few of the ones in my collection. I definitely plan to get more in the near future. She has a couple of designs with Simplicity Pattern Company. She offers a class on Craftsy for one of her dresses. She has done some sewalongs. She is always available by phone as well for any questions you may have. She is very knowledgable and personable. For her blog go here. She is also on Facebook and Pinterest. So go and see all of her offerings. Very inspiring!

Retro Dress/Vogue 1329/Fabulous Dress & Fashion Shoot

I would like to say a very sincere and heartfelt thank you for your feedback, support and encouragement in my previous post. I was deeply touched. You are a blessing. I look forward to continuing on with you, visiting your blogs and having you visit mine. If you normally don't comment, if you leave me a comment, I would be happy to visit your blog. I love discovering new-to-me blogs. I hope you enjoy the photos from my fashion photo shoot.

I love this "now" retro dress made from Vogue 1329. It's a 1980's pattern. I'm not normally a 1980s fan, but this one I can do. And it does not have big shoulder pads. Yea. It was made by my late mother-in-law. I was fortunate enough to acquire the dress and the pattern, which is so awesome if I want to make more of these. I actually have several things she has made along with their patterns. She was so organized to keep all of that together. She made it out of knit. It is so comfortable. It has little buttons along the top of one of the shoulders, a very nice feature, I think. It is such a fun print, too. As you can tell from this piece, she was a very stylish and elegant woman with great taste; and lucky me, we were the same size. I know it would please her very much to know that I was getting good use and enjoyment out of the garments that she made. I hope to share at least a couple more of her creations with you at some other time.
(photos have been lost. Will try to add back when I can.)

Vintage Vogue - V2858 - Original 1944 Design

This is a Vintage Vogue original 1944 design, V2858. It is very comfortable and has beautiful lines.

PARTING SHOT:

We've lost another loved one, a dear sweet uncle, one of the kindest men I've ever known. After the graveside service, we gathered with family at another uncle's home. Although funerals are sad, it does provide opportunity to visit with extended family that we rarely see. Here I will share a few pictures of our time with family.

This is our sweet baby with one of our aunts, my mom's brother's wife.

This is our sweet baby with our uncle, my mom's brother. It is at his and his wife above's home that we were gathering.

Our son, Mr.6, the smaller one in the orange shirt on the right, playing football with his cousins.

This is a picture of myself with my sister and brother. I am on the far right.

This is the back of our daughter, Miss 16, walking through the family cemetery.

This is a picture of my brother and his wife and a cousin and his wife.

This is a picture our aunt who is the sister of our sweet uncle who passed away with her children and grandchildren.

This is an old picture of my mom, her siblings and their cousins. My mom is the one on the far left holding the baby. Her sister is on the far right. And their brother is one of the little boys holding a gun on the far right.

This is a group shot where they are trying to recreate the old picture above when they were young.

This is our dear, sweet, beautiful aunt, the wife of our dear uncle who has passed.

This our dear aunt when she was young before she married.

This is a picture of the two on Valentine's when they were courting.

This is their wedding day.

This is the two of them with their first child.

I hope you have enjoyed these pictures and getting a little glimpse into our lives. I especially love old pictures of family. I am still hoping to post some pictures of my grandmother who passed away recently. The hold up is I am waiting for my husband to have time to show me how to make the files smaller so they will load.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of the day!

Until next time,

Trudy

Refashioned 1970's Thrift Store Find

I found this 1970's formal in a thrift store. It had this shiny silver top and polyester plaid knit skirt and jacket. The top was too tight, and I can't imagine wearing it anywhere anyway. It was floor length. The jacket wouldn't close and was long sleeve. So I decided to modernize it a bit. I separated the top from the skirt, sewed a zipper in the back, shortened the length to just above the knee. I shortened the sleeves on the jacket, and took out the bust gathers so it would close. And voila, there you have it, a new outfit for me. Hope you like it!

The jacket was too small. It would not close all of the way. There was a four-inch gap. So I unpicked the band at the bottom and released the bust gathers. Then I sewed the band back on. And now I am able to close it all of the way and tie it.

I cut off part of the sleeves and hemmed them to make them shorter.

Lady in Lavender

This is my version of the 1974 Simplicity 6667. I found the pattern in an antique store. I made the dress using a cotton material. I chose View 2 but with the shorter sleeves. The dress is above the waistline, v-shaped neckline, vestee, back zipper and ruffles on the sleeve hem and the neckline. If I make this again, I will make the knee length version in a flowey fabric.

Simplicity Historic Costumes 4739

Posted by Picasa

I made this sweet little dress for Miss 8. She loves to wear it. I used the now discontinued Simplicity Historic Costumes Pattern #4739, Civil War Growth Dress. The dress is made of cotton. For the elastic casing around the neckline, waist, and arms, I used bias tape. I also used the same color bias tape as a trim for the hem.
