{crafting} hat display

Hey there :) As you know, I have been making crochet hats like a crazy lady! They have been a little tricky to photograph so I knew I needed head that was not mine to take better photos.

I looked everywhere close to find a Styrofoam head...JoAnn's, Michael's, Tall Mouse. Nothing. Ugh. A quick google search lead me to Hobby Lobby which apparently has everything. They just put one in about 45 minutes away, so to get the supplies for my "head" I needed to take a field trip. Oh. My. Word.

That place is AMAZING. For those who have never been to one here's how I will describe it. It's like a full sized Home Goods WITH a Michael's and then a touch of JoAnn's, and a touch of Party City. It's a magical place. AND they had what I needed!

I may have gotten a little fabric too...
Then I needed to decide what to do with the head. I figured I would Mod Podge it and I've been dying to "book page" something so I thought..."hey, I'll book page the head!"

I found an old poetry book from my college days and went to town!

I painted the base a pretty aqua too. So what do you think!? She's kinda creepy huh? I think I'll name her Paige. Ha! Get it? I'm funny sometimes. She's much less creepy when she is wearing one of my super cute hats :)

I am not an expert Mod Podger by any means. I followed this tutorial at Crafted Love
Happy Thursday everyone!

Arrrrrgh….a treasure chest for the little matey!

I don’t know about your little one’s. but my kid LOVES Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

He saw something about making a treasure chest and had been bugging me about it daily for quite a while. “Mommy I need a team treasure chest for all my gold dabloons.” For reals?!?!

I was putting it off because it sounded like A LOT of work. We went to Michael’s and Toys R Us looking for a wooden treasure chest kit without much luck. It was a lot of “Mommy that doesn’t look like Jake’s team treasure chest.” I was not going to Home Depot. I do not pride myself on my woodworking skills. This really sounded like a job better suited for Daddy. Anyhow…

Then I realized all he wanted was a little paper cutout thing that you print out online and glue together. That my friends I can do!  I present to you Carter’s Team Treasure Chest complete with jewels and gold dabloons.

I made it!

Hi friends! Happy Friday and happy long weekend! My husband is off today so we get four days to play! Whoo hoo! Headed to Disneyland in a bit!

So I have been wanting to make something to house all of my hair accessories and jewelry and pretty things FOREVER and finally did something about it this week! Look at this mess I had going on…eww.

Thanks once again to Pinterest, I found a great tutorial HERE for how to take an old yucky frame and make it into a lovely organizer!

Check it out…

First, I hit up the Goodwill and found this gem.

Sphinx Frame

Apparently this is a painting of Mary and the baby Jesus snoozing the sphinx on their way to Egypt? And the original hangs at Hearst Castle. Thanks to my nerdy husband for Googling that for me…

It was the only frame I could find that had any detail on it. And by the way, my Goodwill is NOT cheap. I paid $6 for that. My sister wants the print though so I guess it’s a cheap gift and crafty project in one! SCORE.

I just followed the tute which was super simple {ok fine my husband attached the chicken wire for me}! And here’s is how it turned out!

I love it! See that pretty tray that has all my headbands? I made that too. It’s a tray made of FABRIC. I have a few tweaks to make before they are ready for the general public but they will be hitting the shop ASAP!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend with time to make something pretty! Have a happy day!
