First stop: DC temple! It was pouring rain when we got to here. We headed to our hotel and check in and the started driving. The rain stopped so we headed to the temple to walk around before getting dinner! It is beautiful!! Toby served his mission here 25 years ago, so he was excited to show us all around.
After dinner, we changed and headed back to the temple to meet up with one of Toby's friends from the mission, Mike Day. Afterwards we went to go do temple baptisms, but the wait was really long even with our appointment. The kids were super tired from being up since 3am, so we decided to go drive around around DC instead. Can't wait to explore this city tomorrow!
Day 2: Downtown DC! We took the kids on their first metro ride. We then decided to do the hop on hop off bus tour to see as much as we could!
Here's one of the many stops we did: the Jefferson memorial!
We also stopped for the Lincoln memorial! By the time we got off the bus, the heat and humidity about killed us! Haha! Boy was it gross! Totally drenched in sweat! Sure makes you appreciate Arizona's DRY heat!
White House, Washington memorial and Space & Air museums to name a few. Glad to say we barely survived the heat & humidity! Haha! We had a wonderful time in DC! One day isn't enough. Sure loved seeing Toby excited about being back in his old mission stomping grounds. #morepicturesonfacebook
Day 3: Welcome to New York!!! Did the hop on hop off again! Here's just a little bit of what we saw in ONE DAY! Wish I could fit more pictures in one post! Haha!
Day 4: Left New York City and drove to Palmyra. We first stopped at the Hill Comorah. Here's Jonah re-enacting "Asssssssss....youuuuu....wiiiiiish!" Stopped at Lake Ontario. Wow! That lake is HUGE! Also had a sheet of pizza! 32 slices. We finished all but 5 pieces. Haha! Great day!
Day 5: Palmyra! We started our day by doing baptism in the Palmyra temple! Then we toured the Smith family farm. Then we spend a lot of time in the peaceful Sacred Grove! Then we went to the Whitmer family farm. They had a new church film that's only seen there about the role the Whitmer family played in translation of the Book of Mormon. What an amazing day!
After then Whitmer farm, we drove to the printing press where the Book of Mormon was printed and saw an original first addition. We also saw where Alvin Smith was buried. Then we finished this amazing day with the Hill Comorah pageant!
Noah mets Noah. Hill Comorah pageant tonight!
Day 6: Last night after the pageant we drove to Buffalo. This morning we woke up and headed to Niagara Falls! Wow! It was amazing! Now on to Kirtland Ohio!
Finished the day in Kirtland. We visited the visitor center, Newel K. Whitney store and home. We also visited Isaac Morley's home and the Kirtland temple. Such a great day learning more about these amazing saints and the how they helped move the church forward and the sacrifices they made.
Day 7: Chicago! We had a picnic with the Chicago skyline as our backdrop. Caleb was born in Chicago so we took him to the hospital where he was born and a couple of the houses he lived. We stopped by the Chicago temple too. Here's one of the many old beautiful barns and corn fields we drove by on our road trip. We also stopped at this beautiful park and let Caleb slide down a fun slide that he liked when he was little. For dinner we had Chicago pizza! The vote is still out on which one is better... Chicago or New York! Haha! Lots of memories for Toby and Caleb when they lived here several years ago.
Day 8: Carthage and Nauvoo. We first went to Carthage jail. Then drove to Nauvoo and spent the rest of the day there. We stopped by our ancestor homes of the Webb's blacksmith and Browning's gun shop. We also did baptisms in the Nauvoo temple. We even ran into a few people that we know. We saw Bentley's soon to be grandparents. They're serving a mission in Nauvoo. We saw the Sunset by the Mississippi stage performance and the British pageant! What a wonderful last day of our trip!
