Bear Lake in the winter is the best. The mornings are beautiful and quiet and full of wild life. We love that we can count on being the only ones up there. It is such a great way to get in touch with nature.
We always visit the Motor Lodge and get a yummy breakfast. The kids love the hot chocolate. They will put as much whip cream on it as they want. Let's just put it this way. The hot chocolate there is to be eatten with a spoon!
Most of our weekend was spent sledding. There was plenty of snow and the hill right outside is perfect for it. It was Chloe's first time going and she was fearless. She would zip down that thing so fast and all you'd see was the snow flying up from her sled and you'd hear her giggles echo off the houses.
We thought she wouldn't like it because the first time down she went with me and I turned into a hill of powder. I didn't think much of it because I only got a little spray on me, but when I looked down I couldn't see Chloe. She was completely covered in snow and her poor face was freezing. I felt bad that I kept laughing but it was so cute how I had to dig her cold pink face out of that deep pile of snow!
The drive up there was so scary. We got caught in a HUGE snow storm and there were times when I thought we weren't going to make it. A car would pass going the other direction and the spray from it would leave us vision less for a few seconds. Needless to say we made it and were very grateful we did so safely.
The drive back was so beautiful. The sun was out and shinning and the snow sparkled and glittered the whole way. It looked like the world was covered in diamonds. The roads were steaming and it was like we were driving through a mysterious fog. It was one of the most beautiful drives we've taken.
