idiot's guide to rotting at home

rock bottom.

wednesday night last week was bad. this week was worse. i don't think i've ever played as bad EVER. i missed two open goals and my ball control was all but non-existent. my morale is sapped. the only way left to go is up and i vow to play much better next week. it was terribly disappointing as well. lost the game 8-3. the upside is at least i've got my offensive skills back to somewhere near decent. i had decent passing and shooting. i'm still fairly shaky with my dribbling because of the flooring hence the lack of ball control as well. need to adjust quickly. need to pick myself up before the next game. i hate losing.

bruises and scrapes.

sunday night oh man. paintball yesterday morning was great. a whole bunch of us went at around 9.30am to some place whose name i have since forgotten. but anyway. it was great fun though i was for a while pretty pissed with some of the other players who had no sportsmanship whatsoever.

so yeah. there were a couple of missions that we had to do and i'm most exceptionally proud of the one i did with kaiwei. it was a "capture the flag" mission where both teams started off at opposite ends with a flag in the middle trench. from the start, kaiwei and i made a run for the trench while everyone else was sniping at each other from opposite flanks. we made our way down the trench, each time taking out at least one or two opponents and before we knew it, we'd cleared the entire oppossing team and won.

the other mission that was great was with hianyang running for the flag in another "ctf" mission. kaiwei and i gave covering fire while hianyang made a direct run for the flag without his paintball marker (ie the gun). it was all over within 30 seconds. we owned the other team so many times i swear they were pissed with us. haha!

then there was another one where our group of 19 went against another two groups of 15 and 18. so it was 19 v 15 v 18. needless to say, we won but not because we outnumbered them but because we outwitted them.

and painball as i like to call it, is addictive especially with the right players on your team... right now i'm nursing a lot of bruises the worse of which was when i caught one on the throat. right hand's pretty messed up as well. then again, hianyang zongyao kaiwei and my hands are all messed up. the amount of bleeding was crazy...

attempted to make char siew last night. i must say it was a total failure. 3/4 of all the meat was burnt and i think it'll take a long while for me to recover from the horror of it. i was bitterly disappointed with dinner yesterday. so what if the soup, veg and eggs turned out great. the main dish was crap. i hate it when my food doesn't come out right..

anyway, today was alright too. went to mass with angel and jiayun in the morning before i went over to fenner hall where zongyao anqing and yuehan were making lunch. arrived too late to do anything to help other than to eat and wash up. ha! but anyway, congrats to anqing! you did a great job with the fried rice! =)

and to end of the day.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGEL! sorry we had to bluff you and bring you around in circles. and oh, next time we do a birthday, let's do it somewhere warm. hahaha! anyhows, hope you had a great day! God bless! =)

so yeah! there goes another weekend. back to the books. i'm a bit relived that i've got a hang of my math. or at least some bits of it.. more practice!

whirlwind.

wednesday night well. and it all starts now. the work is piling up and i'm not surprised i'm neck deep in math now. 1 assignment due next week, 1 tutorial which looks like some sort of exam due next week as well. and we're just getting started..

floorball.. drew 8 all. scored 2 but i played my worse ever i think. need to shake off the cobwebs after 2 years...

math.

monday first day was great. but i must say. math and i have a mutual hatred. i'm so dead. it's a blessing though that i'm surrounded by so many math geniuses...

-looks at ruth, kaiwei, anqing, kimberley, hianyang, claudyne, zongyao-

I HATE MATH!

in any case. it feels good to be back to school. it's been a long time coming and 2 years has really screwed with my brains so it'll take a while (not too long i hope) to get back into the correct mindset..

tired.

sunday night i've never cooked for so many people before. and i've never cooked that many dishes at the same time. i'm dead beat but i'm pretty satisfied. had a lot of help from a lot of people so it's all good. mr important did great too with the chicken. the mash potatoe gang was funny. and last but not least, the doughnut crew who came later on.

classes start tomorrow and i'm looking forward to the challenges of uni life. oh yeah. i sound so ready. ha. in any case, i think i can safely say i'm quite confident about the 3 electives that i'm taking. the lecture notes make the modules look decent enough, around the same as how poly classes were but we'll see how it goes. i think i've learnt not to let overconfidence blind my sight of things. only time will tell how "easy" things were.

1st week.

sunday morning it's been a week plus since i've sat foot in canberra. all things being equal, it's a nice cosy city save for the lack of any night life and a shortage of entertainment on a whole. i guess in a way that's good too because it's supposed to mean that i can pay more attention to my studies...keyword: supposed.

anyhows. it's been a fun and wacky first week. i was a bit apprehensive that there wasn't going to be so many singaporeans in anu. apparently i was wrong. which is good. there's a whole bunch of us now that hangs out and does crazy things together on a daily basis. that said, it's pretty amazing how we all met. there are so many of us now that we just call ourselves the SSSA or secret singapore students association. of course secret is just being nice. the original meaning is well.. secret.. ha!

monday was enrollment day. so the original group of friends that i knew from the pre-departure briefs back in singapore (kimberley, joseph and ruth) as well as tingho from taiwan met up before heading over to another block to get our stuff done. it was there in the queue that we met another smaller group of singaporeans. and i don't need to say that we eventually formed one big group. it was hilarious i tell you.. spent the rest of the day together before heading for dinner at oporto's at civic center (the only shopping district in canberra...)

off to the school's campus tour the following day with the same group. i think the tour guide who was malaysian, was pretty pissed off we us because we kept laughing and talking a hell lot. it doesn't help that there were two of them who were pretty tall as well... so you can imagine.. ha! anyhow's, we went to civic center after that and pretty much talked a whole lot the whole way..

went to westfields at belconnen the next day. most of them did a lot of shopping. anyway, it was damn funny when we decided to play uno whilst waiting for a few of them to finish their shopping. so we sat at this waiting area with sofas and all and played. it took a good 40 minutes for the game to end. talk about being draggy. hah!

kaiwei randeep and i went for a run in the morning on one of the days. i ran with a cap and a windbreaker, randeep had double layers i think but kaiwei.. haha.. poor guy was wearing running shorts and a tshirt so he was pretty much very cold the whole time. we ran from the rex hotel to john23 (which is about 3km) and back. it was an experience all in itself just to run that distance on a cold winter morning.

went for floorball on wednesday night with a few of them. 8 of us travelling all the way south just to watch. well, we ended up playing a bit. my two aussie friends and myself versus the 7 of them. it was tiring as hell. i realised also that anqing has very very good ball sense and actually has a lot of potential in her. but that's besides the point. the point is that everyone had fun. we took a cab for a bit on the way to the mpowerdome. boy were we freaked out with the way the meter jumped. ha! went to macdonalds after that before heading back for some much needed rest.

thursday was the official orientation day where we went for some talks. most of it was bull but we still went anyway. signed up for the city bus tour and the freshmen bushdance thing. but anyway, the highlight of the day was when everyone crashed my hotel room. it was to be a whole bunch of 15-20 at once but we ended up with two groups. those who were staying on campus had to go back early and those staying in rex and fenner hall came a bit later. played uno and bridge till we were all dead tired and on the brink of becoming bonkers when hianyang decided to play a really silly game where the first person to sleep would have to drink two liters of milk. haha! kaiwei lost by the way. imagine 5 people on one king-sized bed. hah!

so friday came pretty quick considering we all eventually slept around 5.45am. my alarm went off at 7 and i lazed around in bed a long long time. anqing and claudyne were the first up followed by kaiwei then me and lastly hianyang. at around 9 randeep and zongyao came over to help me move my stuff to burton & garron (the hall in which i currently reside in). so it was all good, manged to unpack most of my things and rested for a while before we met up again for some potluck in the dining hall. kim ruth tingho angel and nura came over to my room for a bit before i met up with hianytang and claudyne, who both stay at the same hall, to head over to kaiwei's room over at rex..

my goodness. i've never felt so tired before. not even in army. i knocked out at around 12.30? that's 10.30pm singapore time. we woke up early to head for the city bus tour where we went on a crash course tour around canberra. new parliament house, some market place whose name escapes me now and finally back to the bus interchange near school. and to end the day, the whole lot of us went to civic center (yes i know... again...) to watch dark knight. a couple of the girls fell asleep during the show.. boy was it funny to see how they were nodding away or swaying from side to side. haha...

anyhows. i'm pretty sure i've missed out a lot of other stuff. those were the highlights so.. yeah. i'm off to bed because it's 2am here and i need to be up by 9am for mass at 1030am. i do need breakfast hence the early wake up time...

so yeah! that's it for now. off to bed... darn friggin' tired. and for the record, dark knight is a darn good movie..

uni life begins.

wednesday evening well! it's been a long while since i've blogged. roadtrip was great and now i'm about to start lessons proper next week. timetable's pretty much done and i'm pretty much screwed but we'll see how it goes.

things are looking good so far. there's a whole bunch of us singaporeans and a few other nationalities that have formed into a clique of sorts. the past couple of days we've been hanging out a lot and i do hope it continues even after lessons start.

speaking about school.. i'm taking two third year modules and a single second year one for my computing aspect. add to that a second year math module and i'm pretty much tied up for the week. i've got no rest days to speak of (save for the weekends!) and on thursdays i've got lessons till 7pm.. wow doesn't quite cut it. hah!

so yeah. that's it for now. canberra's pretty much boring and i've got friends heading over to my place in a bit. so. till the next update.. cheerios!

almost there.

tuesday morning i can't believe i'm flying off tonight. it really is true that time passes by very quickly when you're having fun. i've been back a good one month plus and now it's time to head off again...
