sunday morning it's been a week plus since i've sat foot in canberra. all things being equal, it's a nice cosy city save for the lack of any night life and a shortage of entertainment on a whole. i guess in a way that's good too because it's supposed to mean that i can pay more attention to my studies...keyword: supposed.
anyhows. it's been a fun and wacky first week. i was a bit apprehensive that there wasn't going to be so many singaporeans in anu. apparently i was wrong. which is good. there's a whole bunch of us now that hangs out and does crazy things together on a daily basis. that said, it's pretty amazing how we all met. there are so many of us now that we just call ourselves the SSSA or secret singapore students association. of course secret is just being nice. the original meaning is well.. secret.. ha!
monday was enrollment day. so the original group of friends that i knew from the pre-departure briefs back in singapore (kimberley, joseph and ruth) as well as tingho from taiwan met up before heading over to another block to get our stuff done. it was there in the queue that we met another smaller group of singaporeans. and i don't need to say that we eventually formed one big group. it was hilarious i tell you.. spent the rest of the day together before heading for dinner at oporto's at civic center (the only shopping district in canberra...)
off to the school's campus tour the following day with the same group. i think the tour guide who was malaysian, was pretty pissed off we us because we kept laughing and talking a hell lot. it doesn't help that there were two of them who were pretty tall as well... so you can imagine.. ha! anyhow's, we went to civic center after that and pretty much talked a whole lot the whole way..
went to westfields at belconnen the next day. most of them did a lot of shopping. anyway, it was damn funny when we decided to play uno whilst waiting for a few of them to finish their shopping. so we sat at this waiting area with sofas and all and played. it took a good 40 minutes for the game to end. talk about being draggy. hah!
kaiwei randeep and i went for a run in the morning on one of the days. i ran with a cap and a windbreaker, randeep had double layers i think but kaiwei.. haha.. poor guy was wearing running shorts and a tshirt so he was pretty much very cold the whole time. we ran from the rex hotel to john23 (which is about 3km) and back. it was an experience all in itself just to run that distance on a cold winter morning.
went for floorball on wednesday night with a few of them. 8 of us travelling all the way south just to watch. well, we ended up playing a bit. my two aussie friends and myself versus the 7 of them. it was tiring as hell. i realised also that anqing has very very good ball sense and actually has a lot of potential in her. but that's besides the point. the point is that everyone had fun. we took a cab for a bit on the way to the mpowerdome. boy were we freaked out with the way the meter jumped. ha! went to macdonalds after that before heading back for some much needed rest.
thursday was the official orientation day where we went for some talks. most of it was bull but we still went anyway. signed up for the city bus tour and the freshmen bushdance thing. but anyway, the highlight of the day was when everyone crashed my hotel room. it was to be a whole bunch of 15-20 at once but we ended up with two groups. those who were staying on campus had to go back early and those staying in rex and fenner hall came a bit later. played uno and bridge till we were all dead tired and on the brink of becoming bonkers when hianyang decided to play a really silly game where the first person to sleep would have to drink two liters of milk. haha! kaiwei lost by the way. imagine 5 people on one king-sized bed. hah!
so friday came pretty quick considering we all eventually slept around 5.45am. my alarm went off at 7 and i lazed around in bed a long long time. anqing and claudyne were the first up followed by kaiwei then me and lastly hianyang. at around 9 randeep and zongyao came over to help me move my stuff to burton & garron (the hall in which i currently reside in). so it was all good, manged to unpack most of my things and rested for a while before we met up again for some potluck in the dining hall. kim ruth tingho angel and nura came over to my room for a bit before i met up with hianytang and claudyne, who both stay at the same hall, to head over to kaiwei's room over at rex..
my goodness. i've never felt so tired before. not even in army. i knocked out at around 12.30? that's 10.30pm singapore time. we woke up early to head for the city bus tour where we went on a crash course tour around canberra. new parliament house, some market place whose name escapes me now and finally back to the bus interchange near school. and to end the day, the whole lot of us went to civic center (yes i know... again...) to watch dark knight. a couple of the girls fell asleep during the show.. boy was it funny to see how they were nodding away or swaying from side to side. haha...
anyhows. i'm pretty sure i've missed out a lot of other stuff. those were the highlights so.. yeah. i'm off to bed because it's 2am here and i need to be up by 9am for mass at 1030am. i do need breakfast hence the early wake up time...
so yeah! that's it for now. off to bed... darn friggin' tired. and for the record, dark knight is a darn good movie..
