Exciting times!

IMGP3526

Well, it is all getting very exciting now! Betty's Place is set to open this week and Betty and a few little quilts are currently winging their way to join the party! Be nice to me Melbourne, I've put some of my most favourite chenille in these little baby quilts, some I may never get again!

Finally it's finished!

Wow! I can not believe how long it has taken me to finish this custom order! One thing I have learned from putting this huge thing together is that I am just not capable of making something this big anymore.

This is the biggest quilt I have made (a super king size) and it was just so exhausting! Anyway, it's done now and I'm very happy with how it turned out, hopefully the client is even happier!

Handmade Heaven 1st Birthday celebrations

Wow. One whole year since Handmade Heaven opened its doors. I'm proud to say I've been there since day 1, since the 16th of June 2009. Liesa has decided to mark the occasion with some festivities. And some pressies. Everyone needs pressies on their 1st Birthday don't they? The catch is, its the Handmade Heaven shoppers who will get the pressies. In one big hamper. How cool, right?! I've added a little something and so have many other Handmadies. The kitty is growing. All you have to do is spend $20 or more in store to go in the draw. The winner will get picked out next Wednesday, the 16th on the official birthday.

On that day there will also be some great discount offers for shoppers as well. A bit of "thanks for your support" type of thing. So, if you pop in next Wednesday to Handmade Heaven I will be offering for one day only 20% off your total purchase when purchasing a quilt and bear/bunny in the same transaction (not including laybys). Buy a lap quilt for yourself and grab a bunny for a friend! There are quite a few baby quilts and a couple of lap quilts in stock at the moment and a number of bunnies as well.

So come along and join in the festivities, there will be balloons, cupcakes and the Handmade Hamper up for grabs! Hope to see you there!

Feeling good

So I popped into Handmade Heaven yesterday to drop off this gorgeous newly made quilt and pay my monthly rent. When I walked in there were quite a few people in the shop and I noticed several looking at and touching my vintage chenille goodies. I walked past and casually listened in to their conversation, and I am so glad I did! They were saying how gorgeous my quilts were, and how beautiful the chenille was, and how well priced they were, and it made me feel really good. Something I think I have needed for a while. There were other ladies admiring my bunnies and then let me know how much they love them and had come to the store just to see them. I have had a few things brewing in the back of my mind and now I think maybe it's time to get my butt into gear and get going with it. Hopefully if you pop back next week I may just have a few little announcements to make. Thank you for the boost in my self confidence ladies!

Oldest UFO ever

Well, that title could make for some very interesting blog hits couldn't it!

I was having a bit of a clean out of my linen cupboard and once again came across this quilt that I started for my Miss 12....when she was my Miss 2! I can't believe I only have the border quilting and the binding to do! Maybe it's just because I'm not that into country prints anymore....

I really shouldn't let all that fabric go to waste though should I!

Handmade Expo wrap up

Wow! What a great one! I haven't been to a Handmade Expo for a while and I was looking for a little distraction yesterday before the onslaught of the next week. For me, this next week is not going to be a good one.

What better way to distract yourself than with some retail therapy. There was an amazing stall where the seller had taken vintage suitcases etc and covered them with paper and many layers of mod podge to create some gorgeous one of a kind pieces. I simply could not resist this gladstone bag. I can see some great photo shoots in the future with my quilts and bunnies and this beauty. The creators name is Emma, but unfortunately doesn't have a blog or website to link to. I can tell you she will be at The Ipswich Indoor Bazaar next Sunday. Check it out if you're in the area.

I also picked this gorgeous owl note book from Handmade at Woolshed Creek. Just gorgeous. And Miss 12 couldn't resist the little owl brooch either.

We grabbed candy eggs and knitted chickens, and coffee and fudge (of course!!) and had ourselves a great day, despite the occasional spot of rain that tried in vain to ruin our day.

Miss 12 and I stopped in to the Salvos store near the Expo on the way home. I picked up these super cute crochet pot holders (??) for a tiny 50c each. My only Flea Market Find for the week.

my creative space...

This week in my creative space I'm still playing with the chenille. I haven't really touched it much over the summer, except to make a few bunnies and Christmas stockings and I forgot how much I love playing with it! I've managed to get together a few little quilt tops and cut quite a few more charm squares to go into more quilts. A couple of days rain have cooled things down a little here in Queensland and that's when the fun starts for me. Nothing more comforting and snuggly than chenille.

If you haven't already entered my giveaway, go to THIS post and leave a comment. I'll draw the winner on the weekend.

Day 29: my creative space....

This week in my creative space I actually have something creative to show everyone! Finally!

Earlier in the year I made a little quilt with my chenille scraps in the crazy log cabin block. It actually won second place in the local show in the item made from recycled materials section. Since then I have had little ideas bubbling on making other more traditional quilts using chenille, rather than just your usual squares joined together. Not all quilt blocks would work in chenille. Once I saw the stacked coin quilt I thought it would work well. I came across this tutorial that I thought would come together nicely. And this is the result. Well, just the top. What do you all think? Does it work?

Don't forget, one more day to enter my blogtoberfest giveaway, here.

Etsy shop update

For any of my readers who might be interested, I have listed a few baby quilts in my etsy shop. I have listed them at great prices. I really couldn't believe no one bought my favourite little quilt at Handmade Heaven, this pink and grey one, I just love that colour combination. Oh well, maybe someone will buy it now!

A photo a day in August.

Playing with photos of Miss M's quilt. Still not finished though. Dreaming of when I get my new camera and wishing I had photoshop on my laptop.

Playing along with Megan for this one. Lets hope I can manage a photo a day.

yes... more quilts

I'm sure you are all bored to death by now of all my chenille quilts. Luckily for me, I'm not. Or I wouldn't be making any money right now. They are selling almost too quickly for me to keep up. Here are the latest two, heading off tomorrow to Heaven. I really love the pink and grey, so very pretty.

Heaven, must be there...

The other day I popped into Handmade Heaven where my quilts, and also my bunny, have been selling really well. It seems South East Queensland is really embracing this handmade thing! The shop has been doing well, I have been doing well, better than I had imagined really, it's a little hard to keep up!

Here are the latest quilts in their little display.

When you go to Handmade Heaven one thing you will not be able to leave without is some fudge.

Mmmm seems I forgot to take a photo of the fudge before I devoured it. Oh well, maybe next time!
