Unions Prepare to Sell Out
Not ours. Not yet:
- Union leaders are closing in on an agreement with Mayor Rahm Emanuel that could pave the way for increased health care premiums for more than 10,000 city tradespeople, a powerful labor leader disclosed Tuesday.
Chicago Federation of Labor President Jorge Ramirez refused to say how much more employees would pay, or if labor would demand a no-layoff/no privatization guarantee in return along with a continuation of the prevailing wage paid in private industry.
He would say only that negotiations “concentrating on health care” are “getting productive” and he hopes to finalize an agreement “sooner rather than later.”
The paper quotes Rahm's "won't someone think of the taxpayer mantra again:
- “As we negotiate new contracts, I expect … to see savings in wages and benefits, health care and other places,” Emanuel said then. “And I expect them to be a partner in trying to find the savings.”
- forgetting that city workers are taxpayers, too.
And we don't know what Ferguson was promised to be Rahm's hatchet man, but it must have been extensive:
And we don't know what Ferguson was promised to be Rahm's hatchet man, but it must have been extensive:
- Ferguson has been highly critical of Daley’s decade-long commitment to pay a prevailing wage to members of the building trades — a wage no other major city pays.
The inspector general has urged Emanuel to shorten future contracts and include a “mandatory mid-term re-opener” triggered by a “fiscal emergency” or whenever the city’s operating revenues drop below a “certain negotiated percentage.”
Which we will guarantee, here and now, will occur every single year from here onward.

What a joke.... Our deductibles go up but if you pump ut 6 kids by 6 different fathers.... You are completely covered......
I buy my Tylenol at the hospital 9 dollars per pill.
Go ahead, make a deal with the devel.
All salaries and benefits paid to aldermen, anyone in the mayor's office as well as the salary and benefits of Joe Ferguson, should be revisited immediately before any union contracts are settled. If it's for the taxpayers, then all cuts should start at the top.
Their salaries should be determined by what they actually do.
Since Joe Ferguson wants to help cut waste, he should be happy with his cut in pay and benefits since he hasn't accomplished anything.
Cities with governments like Chicago get in trouble because they will gladly pay you Tuesday (with interest!) for a hamburger today. But eventually today becomes Tuesday, and somehow that's your fault.
Every long-term benefit they promise to make up for a short-term cut will, in time, be reneged on when Tuesday rolls around.
For once the mayor is right on. Time to run the city like a business. They must reign in out of control be if it's packages. If not a bankruptcy is coming. Then you will see a very different Benicia and pension package. Just look at Detroit.
Now that we have a barely 5-4 majority on the Supreme Court, we need the California nurses to re-file their lawsuit against the unions. If they can't automatically take dues out of your paycheck and gove it to Rahm & Madigan, then they're useless to them.
Rahm wants all of us to be "fiscally responsible" to the taxpayers yet he pisses away taxpayers money like a drunken sailor on many of his pet projects.
The old do as I say not as I do.... huh Rahm?
Rahm:
I got your fiscal responsibility right here!
The building trades Unions have a sweet deal with City workers. Many Buikding Trade Unions are now on a working dues schedule. The City employees are protected by the prevailing wage and that's about it. No other Union benefits are provided. It's not uncommon for a Local 130 Plumber that works for the City to pay in excess of $5k a year in working dues. If they want the City worker to pay more for healthcare then they need to give their own members equal benefits. I'm a Proud Union Home and the Building trades Unions better realize that the city workers are a big block In Many union elections.
Thanks to your kind, labor is being destroyed in this country and the Janus vs afscme decision will be the nail in the coffin.
Well, as John Dineen said years ago........It's only 2 bucks a month.
WE forget that the tiny dancer wants the ability to shitcan officers at a faster rate.
The insurance will be a NON starter.
Trades were told that the City will privatize and they will all lose.
What does Feguson say about 70% of rahm's donors wind up with city contracts or business.
Joe, Joe, you there.
As we used to say back in the day, Rahm must have some great pictures of Inspector Joe.
Interesting how the Sun Times is owned by the Chicago Federation of Labor and the city unions are under the Chicago Federation of Labor.
The city has proven itself untrustworthy, don't accept promises (pensions, future increases, future benefits) because they will never happen.
there is a alternative to this provider shave who will not cave to political correctness.

The Unions involved with the City, including FOP, prior to Shields, have been in bed with Da Machine for decades. If you doubt that, check out the jobs Union bosses and their families have after they leave their positions. The Unions are Hardwired and an Integral Part of Da Machine. So even if Rahm is gone, which is probable after the next election, Da Machine will survive. Like taxpayers, the Union membership exists merely to contribute revenue. the well being of membership and taxpayers is of secondary importance. Baby "G"
Another expensive 10 year Contact to ensure votes?
What strict fiscal measures did Rahm take on the CTU-CPS?
None.
Never trust a Democrat, Contract or not.
Relying on laws, by-laws and promises is for suckers.
These city m-fers have every taxpayer in chains.
A court challenge only delays an expensive contractual award, but upfront weasels like Rahm get their way to spend and kick that can down the road for later schemes.
If Rahm is running this city like business, then we must be the BlockBuster Video chain.
Reducing wages and increasing employee healthcare payments, he's looking at more money for Sanctuary and anti-Police jungle gym programs.
This is a welcoming freeloaders city and freeloader votes are what's going to keep it Democrat.
The city, county and state are broke. That is a fact. The question is not whether or not you are going to take it up the ass, but rather how deep.
The problem is the city unions will agree to increased healthcare premiums for prevailing private industry wages and no privatization of their jobs
Those are two benefits that don't affect our jobs, but we will get the increased healthcare premiums along with the other city employees. If past practice is once a union agrees to the increase it goes for all city workers
Dumnbass Richie Daley gave the unions sweetheart deals on last contract ,hoping to buy peace for the 2016 Olympic games in Chicago..LOl
Anyone see the Rio games involved paying many bribes and payoffs to Committee officials, for Rio to win games? The Chicago spreaded ?
The fiscal realities the city finds itself in are going to be a major problem for the next few decades. it does not matter much what promises or precedents were set in the past. The money just is not there to pay for them. That is the bottom line.
Either negotiate for minimal pain or wait and have serious pain applied by external forces in one big chunk at some point in the not too distant future. Those are the only two options available to most government employees and retirees in Illinois.
I know that no one wants to hear that, but already taxpayers in Illinois are on the hook for $56,000 per household over the next few decades just to cover employee pensions. Taxpayers can avoid paying their share by moving to states that do not have this problem. Non-tax payers don't have to worry about it anyway. It is almost like the politicians are trying to drive taxpayers out of the state.

So true joey could not even see the lieutenants scandal even blind stevie wonder could easily see it! But then again joey got a huge contract, hiring more and more to keep his mouth shut and now joey is after police typical lies!
Rahms smart to deal with the trades first, they're the low hanging fruit and have the best deal in the city. Consider the fireman, who drives the truck and arrives on scene and does fire suppression and rescue work, the paramedic who drives the ambulance but gets out and administers first aid, the cop who gets out of the car and deals with the bad guys, or even the CPD hacks driving the mayor who get out of the limo and humps the little @ssholes luggage or holds an umbrella, but the guy driving the streets and san, forestry, transportation, water department etc. trucks?
Their only job is to drive the truck!
Nothing more then that, he or she literally drives the truck, and nothing else.
Why not negotiate a contract where he or she gets out of the truck and picks up a shovel or does some actual physical labor? is that too much to ask? Where's their "shared sacrifice"?
We're paying men and women $100,000.00 a year to do nothing more then bring other workers to job sites and litteally watch them work and nothing more!
And you wonder why the trades are always the first to endorse whatever fool occupies the 5th floor? It's because they know they have the sweetest gig in the city and will agree to anything. And who can blame them?

Fight like you have never fought before Kevin! This is your chance to make a difference. Your chance to lock up a second term. Ask for everything. Big raises(cost of living increases needs to be compensated), no more health cost, 25 years max out(we pay more into the pension for it), more V-days, P-days, no more 5 year contracts just because the city dragged their feet, lift residency after 10 15 or 20 years of service, 10 hour day schedule city wide. The police have unfairly taken a beating for too long. It's time to fight for the police! Go get em Kevin!
Be concerned rahm doesn't care what minority contractor hires undocumented labor.
When will rahm demand that C T U pay their share of their pension.
The trade unions have annuities on top of their pensions. They can afford it
Don't give up anything, roll the dice!
O.T. Fuck John Daley and every other member of that crime family,
The unions and worthless politicians have ultimately put you in this no win situation. City is broke and cannot meet future obligations. Just look at school, fire and police pension problems. City and state credit at junk bond status. Tax payers leaving city and state. Illegals and welfare recipients sucking city coffers dry. Can you say bankruptcy?
Don't get your hopes up on lifting residency requirements. City will not allow 15-20 thousand city employees to move out of city. Your only hope is start a city employee class action suit to force this into a court judgement. If all city employees would contribute 50-100$ to a legal defense fund you could afford the best legal talent. Down side is if you win and you will city's only option is to file bankruptcy. Tough choices.
When democrats start talking about money matters, better grab your wallet and hold tight!
(And I hate most unions. I can screw in and unscrew my own light bulbs!)

Watch out Brothers. He has the crosshairs on each and everyone of us

Now that's laughable! 15-20 thousand will leave? What? On my block and the two blocks over there are 6 retired police officers and 2 retired firefighters that still live here with no intention of leaving. I know many police officers and firefighters that say they would stay even if residency was lifted. The very large majority of people in a neighborhood are not city workers. Your numbers are a bit off.
fuck residency , get an extra few grand for being forced to live in shitcawgo
property tax freeze for retirees that stay in the chity of chitcawgo

Correct! I'm call the FOP to find out the info on the attorney's in the retirement health care and I'm going to kick some bread in their direction.
The city is not broke. It's prospering. More cranes than ever dot the skyline. Record numbers of apartment buildings being built. Corporations are moving their headquarters here and Amazon is looking as well. Wrigley is now a 365 day/ year entertainment district. New arena and hotels in south loop. So, the question is: Where does all the money go?

Why don't you forward this to the CFD union. Their members are going to benefit if the suit is successful. Maybe our brothers could also donate like the FOP did instead of riding in on our backs
Yes, city workers are taxpayers too. But they are a tiny subset of the greater taxpayer population, and they have a vested interest in receiving inflated benefits at the expense of the rest of the taxpayers. I say put it to a vote and let the chips fall where they may. I support the cops, but it gets tiring to hear about "fetal", "park under a bridge", "need more benefits", and "you civilians will be sorry" without thinking that maybe it's time for a change.

Why we are not supporting this case is beyond me. The is important to all City Workers who will benefit from this case.

We and the FOP are supporting the case but the CFD and the other unions are letting the FOP and police pick up the tab. Doesn't come as a surprise, not the first time why pay if you can just sit back contribute nothing and reap the.benefits in the case ifsuccessful.

So finally someone else gets it. Currently the city has 20 BILLION dollars in high end projects under construction and in the planning stages. That's BILLION. The big money guys aren't investing that kind of money into a failing city or one that's going bankrupt
Where have you all been? They've been selling us out for Decades.
