7 Dots Studio Paint Chips - Mixed Media Canvas for Scrap Matrix

Hello Everyone,

I am here with you today to share my second project for the holiday challenge this month with Scrap Matrix. Now I know you will be looking at the below mixed media canvas and thinking, hmmm Rebecca, what does this exactly have to do with holidays?. Well, it was created during the school holidays, this still kind of counts right?. I really wanted to take the 7 Dots Studio Paint Chips collection and apply to bright and funky canvas. I know this is a little on the different side but I am happy with the results. It is good to step out of your comfort zone.

Here is a side view of the canvas...

To begin my canvas I adhered Paint Chips paper to the canvas, the main base and all the edges.

I really didn't like the clean white edges so decided to cover them in tissue tape. Tissue tape sometimes does not stick down too well, to ensure complete adhesion I used double sided tape underneath it.

The Prima 'Paint Splatters' stamp set worked so well with this collection. Random stamping around the main part of the canvas and the sides.

Finnabair Art Basics Soft Gloss Gel was applied to the canvas through a stencil.

When the Soft Gloss Gel was later dry I added a touch of Art Alchemy Metallique Wax in Vintage Gold. As I wanted the dots to pop a little more I traced around them a black water pencil then smudged it a little with my finger and water. You will see here in the bottom corner beautiful box corners which are also available in the Scrap Matrix store.

Art Extravagance Texture Paste in colour Graphite was then applied throughout the gaps around the canvas and also to the sides of the canvas. This paste although grey when you look in the tub, it does dry get black (as you can see).

My flowers were created using a combination of Paint Chips die cut paper, old spoons, zipper flowers and seed beads.

Thank you everyone, I hope you enjoyed my little step by step through this creation. There is still a few days to enter our Holiday Challenge, looking forward to seeing more of your creations.

Wishing you a happy and creative day.

7 Dots Studio Paint Chips Layout - Scrap Matrix Design Team

Hi Everyone,

Rebecca here with you today to share a bright layout created especially for the Scrap Matrix 'Holiday Challenge'. The theme of this challenge is so versatile, it can run from holiday memories to mementos, through to possibly the way a holiday made you feel.

Here is what I came up with for my first share with you all. Late last year our family was lucky enough to have a small getaway in Bali, it was the first trip there for all of us. Such a fascinating, warm (in heat and nature of the beautiful people) and colourful. The 7 Dots Studio Paint Chips collection was just PERFECT for Bali photos.

From the Scrap Matrix store you can buy this amazing collection in a kit (as seen below) or buy all the pieces individually, all depending on your preference.

The kit came with absolutely everything I needed to create, I was determined not to add anything extra. The only thing I really did additional to the kit was use my die cutting machine and my Tim Holtz thin circles die to cut some little spinning circles, just to add a little something extra.

Lots of layering and although usually I would paint or ink my chipboard, this time I kept it raw. Also I would usually black outline all my shapes with watercolour or a big brush pen, this time I kept those raw. Trying my best to attempt minimal for once as usually I am a little OTT and never ever know when to stop adding (stamping, marking, spraying, eeeeeek!!).

Thank you all so much for taking the time to visit today, I look forward to seeing your challenge entries into our 'Holiday Challenge'

Wishing you all a happy and very creative day.

7 Dots Studio, Writers Block Collection - Scrap Matrix Design Team

Hi Everyone,

I am here with you all to share my second 7 Dots project for Scrap Matrix Design Team with you all. This project has again been created using the Writers Block collection, I love this collection, the dark colours are seriously my style (vintage and yummy!!).

As you can see I created a tag, but when the tag was finished I thought, hmmm there is still some paper left here and a few bits and pieces so I just kept going. Then a canvas was born and the tag moved on in to a new home.

Now lets take a look how this was made.

1 ) Manilla tag
2) I covered that tag with the paper, using double sided tape to adhere it.
3) Layering various tags from the Writers Block Collection  edges inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.
4) Layering more tags from the Writers Block Collection edges inked with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo.

Have you used the AMAZING German Scrap before? Look what can happen with just a gentle touch of Art Alchemy Metalliqe Wax. You can transform the black wings instantly to glossy gold picking up all those fine details. These wings were then used as the back drop behind the inked butterfly wings.

\

To create my flower with bronze bead embellishment I first tore the inner part of the flower out completely. Gluing in a bronze flower, then micro beads, followed by a metal hand

The layer below the tag you will see may look like a square but it is actually a split sheet to conserve my paper. Also I have used offcuts from my previous project which have been sewn on with my sewing machine. These papers have all been edged with Art Alchemy Metallique Wax in Aged Brass.

Glossy accents was used to adhere micro copper micro beads around my paper edges.

To finish my project I mounted the tag on foam mounts and adhered brass corners to the canvas.

Many thanks for looking at the blog today, I wish you all a very happy and creative day.

7 Dots Studio Mixed Media Canvas for Scrap Matrix Design Team

Hi Everyone,

I am here with you today to share with you a mixed media canvas created with the beautiful 7 Dots Studio Writers Block Collection. This collection was made to be combined with the Scrap Matrix metals, they just look so good together!.

At this point, I need to let you in on a little secret. My project when I began was not intended to be a 8" x 8" canvas, it was a 12" x 12" layout (as you can see below in my break down photos). The two photos here will show you my layering process.

Stitching can add beautiful effects to your paper...

Using a nice strong pair of scissors you can cut your metals, making them go a little bit further, layering them, giving an illusion of a full circle even though you have used a semi circle.

Many thanks for taking time to visit here, I wish you all a very happy and creative day.
