Baby Buggie

The last few weeks I've been working on a sample for Helen to take to the Trade Show in Sydney in June, it's called Baby Buggie by Chitter Chatter Designs. The pattern for this lovely quilt is available through Pattern Press so ask your favourite quilt shop to order it in.

I love the little critters! You can use needleturn or blanket stitch to do the appliques. Cori, the designer has a great technique for making the bodies using freezer paper and needleturn!!

It would make a lovely quilt for the wee man in your life!!

Mother's Day

On Mother's Day I was up bright and early, made my own breaky and headed off to The Domain Athletics Centre for the annual Mother's Day Classic. My boys did get out of bed and had breaky with me. DS gave me a handmade card and gift voucher for a free breakfast in bed. I think I'll cash this in next weekend!!

It was a bit chilly and I had plenty of layers on including my beanie and gloves. The view from the stand I was working on was magnificent....and when people started to arrive it looked like this...We were flat out all morning handing out timing bands to the runners and number bibs to those that hadn't registered online. There was over 2400 participants in 3 events, 4km run, 8km run and a 4km walk.

Here are the walkers at the start line, it was a beautiful day. (Photo from ABC website) . Helen and her girls are in there somewhere, one had the most gorgeous painted face and I'm really sorry for pulling those cute plaits!!

When the walkers returned to the finish line we handed them all a showbag and a drink. The national event raises money for breast cancer research and Hobart's event raised around $30,000. Well Done Hobart!!!

I really enjoyed helping out and I might make it a regular event on my calendar.

My Favourite Sewing gear..

Lynette Anderson asks the question "What is your favourite sewing gear?" well these are mine.

My needle case, although I sewed it wrong way round, I still use it, I love my little hand painted teddy bear. Then there's the little green scissors that Trashy gave me with my little teddy scissor fob I made along time ago, a brown millenium pen for marking up stitcheries, glue pen and a quick un-pick for the billions of mistakes I make, fancy pins, DMC threads and a hoop plus ric-rac, I seem to use it alot these days! Ooh and of course my new glossy white light box that DH made.

Now I can't forget to mention all my magazines, when I'm not stitching or need some inspiration I pull them out one by one and look through them all over again. I love Homespun and Country Threads and ocassionally I'll by a Handmade or Quilter's Companion. This photo only shows some of them!!

I can't bear to part with them!!

So show us your favourite sewing gear!!

Goodies and Volunteering

Here's the goodies I bought at the Quilted Crow's Autumn Gathering, some gorgeous wool felt and xmassy looking fabric to use on my Gail Pan BOM. I also won the pink fabrics and large pink ric-rac!! The striped tea towel is yet to be appliqued with cup cakes. It's all sitting on my brand new light box that DH made me, isn't he just the greatest!
On the day I worked on Helen's Colorque project " A Doily for Diedre", it was so relaxing colouring it in, it just needs a bit of stitching now, not sure yet how I'll finish it off.
This Sunday is Mother's Day here in Oz and this year I've volunteered at The Mother's Day Classic in Hobart. These events are held across Australia and I was amazed to hear that over 1500 people have already registered for the event in Hobart. They're hoping for 2500 on the day. I think I'm going to be very busy. So if you're looking to go for a walk or run on Sunday morning head off to the event in your state and help raise money for Breast Cancer Research!!
Online registrations are closed but you can register on the day!!

The Quilted Crow's Autumn Gathering

I spent the day with a group of lovely stitchers at the Quilted Crow's Autumn Gathering at Campania. Now I'm sorry to say I got half way there and realised I'd left my camera at home so I've pinched a few snaps off my mum. The guest tutors were Helen Stubbings and Natalie Ross and as always they came up with some fun projects for us to do. Leonnie and Diedre our lovely hosts from the Quilted Crow also designed some lovely projects too.
The hall was set up beautifully with the designers quilts on display and a little Quilted Crow shop up on the stage.

Here's some of the Tassie Quilting Bloggers, Sarah, Sarah, Cathy, Isabella and.....
....Fiona. Leanne, Marita and Rose were there too but I haven't got a pic. A new blogger Christine was there too but I haven't got a link to her blog yet so if you're reading this Christine can you send me an email please.

Here's Helen with Elaine, showing one of the first projects Helen ever designed - a beautifully embroidered mug bag.

Do go and check out all there blogs for some more great photos.

The blocks from the gorgeous Quilt Aid 2009 project where on display

The cute little button for this project is on my side bar if you'd like to grab it or if you want the html code just send me an email.

Next post I'll show you what I worked on and also the goodies I bought!
