Cardabilities Sketch #63 is released!

Welcome to another fun sketch from Cardabilities!

Here is my take on it:

Chick Wire stamp: Teresa Collins Stamp Maker
Patterned papers: WRMK. Wood veeners: Studio Calico
Rubons: basic Grey. Star pins: Inkido

Did you notice the chicken wire on the card? It's a stamp I have made by using the Photocentric Teresa Collins Stamp Maker. You see, fellow Cardabilities DT member Petra Ofrell is also in the DT at Photocentric, who has teamed up with Teresa Collins to develop the Stamp Maker. I had the chance to try it out at Petra's house a while back, and I'm telling you - this stamp maker is on my wish list! If you want to see how it works, click here.

Please head over to the Cardabilities blog to see the rest of the DTs lovely exampels, and to play along!

Masculine Cards!

With four men in the house (two kids, hubby and FIL), masculine cards are the most demanded here. I never seem to have enough and now it's time to restock again.

Sketches always seem to get me started, and I found some fun ones this week I wanted to give out a try.

Card Time!

I know that, as soon school start in four week, the boys will be invited to birthdays. And birthdays means I need to make cards - the boys prefer to give mum's hand made cards - bless them!

Over the last week I have created some cards (DT work mostly) where the designs have been my own. I admit it - some times it feel's great to let somebody else take care of the design itself, so I can focus on papers and embellies - so when it came to making the boy's cards, I was happy to find the card sketch blog Cardabilities. This blog have plenty of great sketches to work with and I picked the last three ones, created, and even all the challenge entries are closed, I want to show you my cards.

Under each card you will find the link to the current sketch: go ahead and have a look at them, they are really great card sketches.

Sketch #56
Papers: Crate Paper Story teller

Sketch #57
Papers: Simple Stories Fresh Summer, Wood veeners: Studio Calicio

Sketch #58

Do you enjoy card sketches?
What are your favourite places? I'm always looking for some good ones :-)

I have added this badge to my left hand bar:

Because I found this post on the Get Creative blog, telling I was the winner of the

Making Masculine Cards with Feminin Collections

I'm sourended by men IRL: I'm married to a man, my kids are boys, I work with men, I have a FIL living in an inlaw appartment in our house (but no MIL) - even our budgies are boys. The only feminin creatures in my everyday life is my cat and my dog... When I saw this image of the MyScrapbookNook May Kit I was pretty sure it was going to be a big challenge to use those papers, even if I know Leah (who coordinates the kits) has an eye for finding something for everybody:

Over the years I have developed the skill of finding masculine elements in what seems to be very feminin collections -it could be patterns or colors or anything else. And the May kit was no exception! When I pulled out the sheets and embellishments I found lots of stuff to be used for both masculine cards and layouts.

This month I have a class at the Nook Forum where I explain what I look for in the collection and how you can make lovely masculine cards with this kit: a lot of card makers seem to struggle with masculine cards. You're welcome to visit the class and get some ideas on how to make them!

Here are two examples of the cards I made for the card class - you will find more in the class and in the gallery.

Do you ever make masculine cards?
Does it come naturally to you or do you struggle, too?

Masculine wreath card

Hmmmm. Could it be done? Make a masculine card with a wreath on?

I needed a card for a boy this week.
I had cute wood veeners I wanted to use on it.

I saw this great May 5th challenge at Get Creative: make a card with a wreath on!
My brain was set in work modus immidiately, all by itself *lol*

Here is the card I came up with, and I believe the anser to my own question is Yes!

Do you agree with me?
Is it possible to make a masculine card with a wreath on?

If I make a simple card, does it mean I have a simple mind?

While my layouts seem to develop in all directions right now, using more busy backgrounds and less white space, my card are heading in the oposite direction: the simpler - the better *lol*

Exploring the use of more cardstock, and less papers and embellies, has been a fun journey so far, and I admit I am excited to see where this is taking me...

I bought some fun Wood Veneers (Studio Calico) a few weeks ago - perfect for both cards and layouts.
When I saw Sketch 164 at Card Patterns this weekend, I knew it would be perfect for a tiny wooden car.

So here it is:

Thank you for popping by!
Tell me, what are your favourite style when it comes to cards right now?
