It's a Wrap: Scare Me Blogfest

Thanks everyone for participating and making the Scare Me! Blogfest a huge success.

Before I announce my favorites, we did have some late posts and entries some of you might have missed.  Undy a Hundy posted a little later than most others and Permission Granted didn't even sign up until the last minute.

I was blown away by the stories, reviews, and real life experiences that people submitted.  We even had artwork submitted.  For that I am awarding everyone a blog Award.  If you participated just copy the image below.
There were some standouts that required additional recognition.  So for these three, they will get a ebook of The Collected Stories of H.P. Lovecraft volume 1.

For Book or Movie Review-  Me!, no just kidding, Economic Disconnect for his in depth look at the horror of The Exorcist.

For most frightening experience-  The Warrior Muse and her run in with a psycopath as a child.

Scariest Story acclaims go to-  Shallee McArthur for the Ghostification of Jonas Cray.

Thanks again to everyone that participated.  I hope everyone got lots of comments, page views, and new followers.

Scare Me! Blogfest

Today is the Scare Me! Blogfest, where each participant will talk about a scary movie, scary story, scary book, and/or write their own scary story in honor of Halloween.  It isn't too late to join in the fun, just sign up in the linky below.

For my entry I will talk about a book and a movie.

Book-  Salem's Lot:  This was the scariest book I have ever read.  Stephen King is at his best in this book painting scenes that scare you to your core.  I had just graduated high school when I read this book.  I was at my grandmothers house and was reading late at night.  I was getting tired, so I put the book down.  The images King created kept running through my head.  I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep and got up and watched comedy central for an hour until I felt I could safely get to sleep.  The movie for this one is okay, but the book is super creepy and has a place on every bookshelf.
Movie:  Thirteen:  I am pretty sure you will find this one classified under the drama heading, but that just isn't true for anyone with a daughter.  This movie is the type of scary that keeps you up all night trying to come up with ideas to keep you kid from turning out like lead character Tracy.  It hits all the scary notes, drug abuse, delinquentism, sexual activity...  This story is also semi autobiographical, so it actually, somewhat, happened to the person that wrote it.  Knowing kids that went through semilar stuff growing up and this movie starts looking like something that will happen instead of could.  Sent shivers down my spine.  If I were hard pressed for a genred horror movie I would go with Event Horizon or Amityville Horror (1979).
Hope you enjoyed my entries and I can't wait to read yours.  Please stop by all the other entrants sites and enjoy their scares as well.  Please post the code on your blog with your entry.

Friday Quiz-Super Spooky Halloween Edition

This week's quiz is guest hosted by Christine Hadden, who can usually be found talking horror on her own site Fascination with Fear.  You might want to stop by there and check out her super aggressive Halloween Festival  of Lists.  Every day this month she has created a horror related list numbered to correspond with the day of the month.  For example today is the 28th, so her list will have 28 items on it.  One of my favorites so far as been the kids in horror one.  On to the quiz.

$200-  What film is supposedly based on The Keddie Murders, an violent unsolved case of a brutal murder in the Sierra Nevada mountains?

$400-   What three Dario Argento movies combine to make the "Three Mothers" trilogy?  And what are the names of the so-called mothers?

$600-  What flavor of ice cream does Dick Hallorann give Danny in The Shining?

$800-  Name the real-life mall in which 1978's Dawn of the Dead was filmed?

$1000  Author and friend Peter Straub convinced Stephen King to put down and step away from what novel he was writing because the subject matter was so disturbing?

Bonus-  Match the car to the movie

1.  1958 Plymouth Fury                                          A.  Death Proof
2.  1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88                                  B.  Christine
3.  1969 Dodge Charger                                          C.  Evil Dead 1, 2, and AOD
4.  1957 Ford Custom 300                                       D.  Psycho

Christine Hadden is the creator/editor/writer of Fascination with Fear.  She prefers frequenting dark theaters alone and avoiding most situations in which she is required to be social. She boasts an uncanny knack for sarcasm, an utter lack of conformity, and a raging hatred of the 3D phenomenon.  Vampires are her go-to monster of choice and she has a sincere love of Italian horror, ghost stories, Great White sharks, and Norman Bates.  She is a contributor to Fangoria, Paracinema, and The Blood Sprayer

All Hallows Eve

I wasn’t expecting to dress up this year but boredom got the best of me.  You see, we were going to meet up with another family and go trick or treating.  I start getting the kids ready for a 6pm departure at about 4:30pm.  It doesn’t take that long to get them ready contrary to what every Sunday morning church departure has taught me.  At 5:30pm we make the call to see if the other family is ready and they tell us 6:30.

I had an hour surrounded by face paint and an imagination.  The easiest thing, I think, is a zombie.  15 minutes later, I am done with make up and bored again.  In my mind, I associate Black Lantern’s with zombies.  Not a huge leap and I wonder what the black lantern symbol is.  I check it out on google and my first thought is that I could draw that pretty easily.  So 20 minutes later I am standing there with a black lantern symbol on the chest of my black leather jacket.

Of course no one knew that I was a black lantern.  I did get compliments on my face paint though.  One person asked what the symbol on my chest was but didn’t know what a black lantern was and probably didn’t know what a green lantern was either.

"The blackest night falls from the skies,
The darkness grows, as all light dies,
We crave your hearts and your demise,
By my black handthe dead shall rise!" –Black Lantern Creed

horror quiz

You know the rules lets get to the clues.

Name this nightmare on elm street character.

How about this Friday the 13th character?

For the trifecta of slasher royalty, Name this Halloween Character.

This movie blends Bloody Mary with the story of a murdered slave and is set in Chicago's Cabrini Green.

A newer addition of the Doctor Who universe, these creepy characters debuted in the episode Blink.
