Day 69-Sans! Pipes For The Marlboro Man

Katie of Katie's Clay Corner made a comment on Day 67 about looking for a "perfect hooka ". That was the day Sans! Pipes for Palace Girls made their debut. I told Katie then that she had given me an idea and here it is, the idea in fruition: Sans! Pipes for Marlboro Men:

This silver hookah is the Father of all hookahs. It stands at about 2 1/8" high and if made entirely of silver would have sold for USD1000.00, like the one on your left.

Many would have thought this hookah is better for display but really, a silver hookah smokes better than any other hookah (according to the ad of the Thousand Dollar Hookah).

For another reference, hookah on your right is a real life Silver Harem Hookah. According to discoverhookah.com: This imposing Harem hookah tops out at 5’7” and weighs 45 lbs. Coming with three 60” hoses, this inspiring decorative piece is sculpted from brass and is ideal for use on a special occasion.

I have designed my silver hookah to be masculine with a boxy body and black hose. The double hose may appear "couple-like" and smoochy-woochy but they are really meant for a couple of guys on a game's night, sharing a smoke. I made a plateful of pipes in case the boys turn out in throngs which they generally do.

In the meantime, I have updated the girls' pipes by giving them a new hose:

After I finished making these hookahs and was getting ready to write this post, guess who should send me pictures of the "Smoking Room" in her hotel at Tunisia?

I may seem a little blasé now about how these coincidences almost always happen. I seriously believe though some of my blogomates and I are psychic and can read each other's mind.

And yes, I do know what you are thinking but that is the topic for another post.

Clever girl!!! your hookahs are very GOOD! I wish I bought a narghilè for you at the souk. They were very pretty, in silver and enameil in many colours. Alas I do not smoke.... and the were a bit bulkous to stuck in a suitcase.
BTW the new hoses are much better than the old ones. Tomorrow I'll post some new piccies Big hugs Rosanna

Oh, they're gorgeous! I didn't think it possible, but these are even more fabulous!
Now I fear there will be bucketloads of princes jumping into wells because of long waiting lists.

Now, THAT is a handsome hookah! I really think you should build the palace yourself. I'll help you find the tiles for your hookah room :D

These are fantastic and so detailed! I am really wanting one for my project to now! I recently watched and episode of the Addams family where they were smoking a hookah!!! I was so excited when I saw it! It'll be so cool to put somewhere in the mansion! Maybe Morticia would like an original Sans! :)

lol...even the bf is excited!!! HAHA Now he wants a silver hooka!!! The mini ones you made are perfect!!! And I love that mini smoke room......

Ok...so I'll bite, what are they smoking in those hookas??

...and tiles could be made easily using polymer clay....I made some recently that I'll post later, for Cora's bathroom. Not to sure if I like them or not...we'll have to wait and see...

I LOVE these! Love the updates to the girls' pipes, too. And I second Sumaiya's suggestion that you build the palace yourself!

Rosanna, thank you for the thought. I have hookahs too , real life ones as I love them but mine had rusted. The Turkish ones can also be bought at Arab Street in Singapore. Your pictures for the smoking room is so apt and I will use them for inspiration to make my smoking room. I want to thank you again for thinking of me when you were in Tunisia. The last time I brought a hookah home, I had to hand carry the thing and it was not even half as pretty as my mini version ..hehe. It was no fun and I am glad you did not buy it from Tunisia.

Daisy, thank you so much for your encouragement. I love yours too! Maybe we should swap? My hookah for yours ? lol.

Helene, you made me laugh so hard!Bucketloads hahaha! I wish.

That is real sweet of you, Sumaiya. Does your prince want a pipe for his pleasure palace? :)

Ara, drop me an email. I will love to make one for my favourite Goths- the Adamses :)

Katie, I think they started with cannabis (death sentence here if you traffic cannabis of more than 20g I think!!) Then it was tobacco and then when I use it, they smoke this sweet molasses which you can buy from any of the shops that sell the hookahs.

Thanks Belle! I am trying to see if I can cope with the annexes first. I am in a bit of a limbo at the mo, as I have to decide whether to convert an existing space into a workroom and get a million tools and a tv and internet access into that room so that I can build my house..lol. What is your advice?

Sans....they are fab.

There is a smoking place in San Diego with all the hookahs....always looks a bit scary on there to me though :-)

Yes...build the palace my dear :-)

A million tools? LOL! All I use are a couple of craft knives, an Easy Cutter, a few rulers, some emery boards for sanding and wood glue. True, I have a scroll saw, but the first time I used it for my house was for my latest project, and I'm pretty sure I could have gotten by without it.

Also, I have absolutely no previous building experience. I've always enjoyed sewing and crafting, but I've never constructed anything before or done any kind of woodworking. I just sort of had to figue things out as I went along. It's easier than you think!

Oh, Jayne, these hookahs joints are not half as scary as your floozies ..haha! You are not smoking any controlled substance but these molasses does glaze your eyes as you drift dreamily because the scent is soooo sweet.

Belle, you are a true inspiration to me (truly, madly, deeply!) because I tell you, I did 4 years of "technical" instead of "home ed" in school and I still know nuts about sawing. While building the earlier hookahs, I tried to saw glass tubes from a broken bulb with what I thought was a glass cutter. I may post the tool up so maybe someone can tell me how to use it. As you can tell, I always buy tools that I don't know how to use. My latest is a hand drill.

To all those who thought I can build my own palace, I will see what I can do this weekend with a long overdue project.
