Finished! The Topaz Wyrmling

Behold the Topaz Wyrmling, young is it's knowledge and eternity awaits for higher learning. I had a blast on this piece, nothing was destroyed, on fire, or bleeding which is my usual forte. I will quickly be back to that forte but this was a great experience that pulled a different train of thought out.

You may notice that it is detachable from the base, this was requested by Dan and I was happy to oblige. The bonus is that another model could be inserted in the future and the backdrop can be viewed in it entirety, neat!

Finished! Dark Angels Land Raider

All glammed up and ready to roll. This was a really fun one. My client mainly wanted the emphasis on some cool freehand designs, I can do that!

Stay tuned!

Finished! Primaris Captain

A while back I posted about a weekend paint jam in which some friends and I got down on some primaris marines. Here's my final result all ready for fake battle. It was a lot of fun to work on, some folks don't dig space marines but to me they've always been cool space knight looking figures and the primaris are that even more.

More space marines to come! Stay tuned!

He's also for hire if you're feeling blue.

WIP Wings of Death

Preppin and steppin through a squad of Deathwing Knights and their accompanying landraider :) A fun mix of tabletop with a request for some freehand goodness on the tank. Tanks usually bore me but the added spice of some mural work kept it interesting.

Enjoy!

More to come, stay tuned!

Finished!Lord Commander Stryker

I was contacted a few months ago about taking part in painting an army that would be raffled off for charity at the upcoming Nova Open. After checking which charities were involved I said yes due to Doctors Without borders being one of the beneficiaries. Fast forward to today and they're ready to be shipped off :)

First up, Captain Stryker.

Khador Grolar, Redux

Before entering this piece at Gencon this year I gave it another pass and added more detail. Mainly more time being spent on the banner. Which worked in my favor, I was happy to take the best in category prize in the Warjack/Warbeast category :) So here he is, being finished for the second time.

Years ago, I used to work at a tattoo shop, which showed me a lot about the world of art I didn't know. One of the sayings my boss instilled in me was that most works of art are never truly finished but only abandoned. This didn't apply to tattoos of course, we were talking about painting. So I picked up where I left off on this one which is something I never do. Here's a look at the before or first time finishing.

Finished! Brom Hardbark

Here is the end result of the Chicago jam I attended last weekend. This is the first bust I've painted and I wish I hadn't waited so long. When I looked at busts I didn't see as much room for customization, no base to build, no pose to tweak with, but It puts a different emphasis on a miniature. Obviously the head is much larger which makes it a focus piece but I'll look at painting faces a little differently from now on. I also put more attention into the plinth and connecting point. His name is Brom Hardbark so I wanted to represent that on his mounting. I bashed the block with a hammer (bashed it good) and added a shield which displayed Brom's favored cudgel.

WIP Stormwall Part 3 (white lines)

It's a long road when you can see every step ahead of you. But in order to get this model past the shitpoint I had to embark on that long, white, mazelike highway. I wanted to capture more of a reagal look befitting of cygnar. Not wanting to mess with symmetry I pulled my focus back and decided to add the spirals and swirls to specfic armor plates. My past employment at a tattoo shop designing stars and swirls definitely paying off here.

Once the mile of so of ivory lines were laid out, I set about the first of three series of highlights. Which were then battle damaged with a shred of foam.

I also started the electricity banks. A rough sketch that will come together with some more highlighting and washing.

WIP Khador Grolar

I took the first few steps on the Grolar this weekend. Hopefully I can move fast and get him done next week, gotta keep that brush moving. The first picture below is where I ended up after some airbrushing and sketching on the banner.
