PUTRAJAYA: The world will see Malaysia’s wholly-owned Formula One team competing on the Grand Prix circuit from next year with a locally-made machine.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the international motor racing federation (FIA) had accepted Malaysia’s bid to enter the 2010 and future FIA F1World Championships with its 1Malaysia F1 Team.
The team, an initiative of the government and private sector, will see the collaborative experience of Proton and Lotus, and backing from the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), AirAsia, Naza Motors, the Malaysian Motorsports Association and Malaysian Automobile Association.
The team will compete in Formula One for the standard contractual period of 10 years. The team al so has the individual backing of AirAsia chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes, his deputy Datuk Kamarudin Meranun and Naza Group of Companies chief executive officer and executive chairman SM Nasarudin SM Nasimuddin.

He also added that it is not a waste to invest for the team as the advantages, including tourism and technological advancement, source NST Online.
