new york running show podcast: boston marathon and sybil ludington 50k

the new york running show last night (episode 73) was all about boston and sybil - mainly because brenn and i were joe's only guests on the show.  brenn recounted his tough day at the boston marathon - and the especially tough hot weather.  i talked about the sybil ludington 50k up in carmel, the prior day. 

sybil is one of my all time favorite ultras - and it was, actually, my very first ultra back in 2006 :D

new york running show podcast: taconic freezer five 5 miler and cherry tree 10 miler

last night joe and i started off episode 65 of the new york running show and midway through were joined by steve and emmy.  we began with a short take on running routes and then went into a brief chat on the freezer five miler (and other races) at fdr state park.  that was followed by the cherry tree 10 miler at prospect park, also held that morning.  and, for good measure, we also chatted about different local area running clubs.  it was a good time...

new york running show podcast: the brooklyn marathon

last night the ny running show (episode #55) was devoted to the inaugural brooklyn marathon held in prospect park that morning.  participants included our moderator joe, steve (the brooklyn marathon rd), emmy, ari, amy, brenn, and me. 

it was a wide ranging look at the race, including logistics, the course, participants (runners, volunteers, spectators - even "bandits") and the fantastic weather.  despite all the talk about brooklyn, joe even managed to get in a few words on the mamaroneck 5k he ran that morning.

ny running show podcast: brooklyn half marathon, sugarloaf marathon, & the wall street run

among the races we covered last night, on episode 31 of the new york running show, were a pair of nyrr races, the wall street run and brooklyn half marathon, and did a brief recap of the sugarloaf marathon from last weekend. then we took a look at the upcoming memorial day marathon at van cortlandt park. finally, we did a quick survey of some of the weekly summer series races that start up this week (or next) - i.e. the vctc's summer series kicks off thursday night.

ny running show podcast: north face bear mountain endurance challenge, newport & norwalk 10k races

episode #29 of the new york running show is in the books. the bulk of last night's episode focused on the north face bear mountain endurance challenge. todd covered his experience running the 50k (his first ultra) and amy covered her experience captaining an aid station on the 50 mile course (her second consecutive year). steve and i reported on a pair of 10k races, the newport and the norwalk mother's day 10ks. joe gave us a heads up on the loucks games (including the 5k and the masters mile) that are coming up this weekend here in westchester. good stuff!

ny running show podcast: leatherman's loop, nj and long island marathons, and running store based running programs

last night's edition of the ny running show (episode #28) covered a lot of distance - so to speak. it kicked off with a continuation of running stores that sponsor running program (basically group runs, and occasional coaching). the weekend's local race coverage included the leatherman's loop in westchester, the new jersey marathon, and the long island marathon. lot's of good stuff :D

ny running show podcast: mudders & grunters, sleepy hollow half, colon cancer 15k, bikes, and charlie engel

in this edition (#24) of the new york running show, not only did we recap some of this weekend's local races (mudders & grunters, wurtsboro mountain 30k, sleep hollow half marathon, and the colon cancer challenge 15k) but biking in central park got some air time because of the recent ticketing controversy that made news last week. bren also discussed the ny times story on ultramarathoner charlie engle that was in the sunday business section.

as mentioned in prior episodes, the ny running show is planning an informal get together after the scotland run. if you're planning to run it, stick around to socialize afterwards.

ny running show podcast: nyc half, spring equinox, & chris mcdougall's "born to be a trail runner"

while the majority of last night's ny running show (episode #23) was devoted to nyc half marathon coverage, we also talked about the much smaller spring equinox 8k race race in new canaan and chris mcdougall's article, "born to be a trail runner," posted on the ny times "well" blog on friday. mcdougall's article generated 3 pages of posted comments - across the pro and con spectrum. then, as usual, we ended with a survey of upcoming local races.

for those of you planning on the scotland run next month, the ny running show crew is trying to put together a post-race meet-up. stay tuned.

ny running show podcast: empire state building run-up & gridiron 4 miler

yesterday's episode (#17) of the new york running show kicked off early (3 in the afternoon) to accommodate a different kick-off a few hours later, in dallas - the superbowl. we had a pretty large group on the line and the topics included the empire state building run-up held last tuesday and the gridiron classic 4 miler run that morning.

last night's episode (#13) of the new york running show focused on local winter race series here in the tri-state area. among the races we discussed were the boston build-up series (which kicked off that morning with the 10k in norwalk) and the taconic road runners' freezer fives (which are held in february). participants in the round table discussion included our moderator, joe garland ("runwestchester"), steve ("nycruns.com"), emmy ("running around ct"), and yours truly.

new york running show podcast

in a first for me, i just participated in a "podcast" for the new york running show. while i've joined my share of running discussions, in various circumstances and guises, this was the first time my words were streamed live on the web and recorded for subsequent download! the main topic of discussion focused on running clubs, but we also talked about upcoming races and other running items.

joe garland ("runwestchester") was our moderator, and the participants included julie ("races like a girl"), amy ("runnin around uptown"), steve ("nycruns"), and me. the program ran (pun definitely intended) for just over an hour. it was an fun time!
