Democrats are growing increasingly frustrated with the brash political attacks Sen. John McCain has launched against Barack Obama in the weeks since the new president took office. No one expected the Arizona Republican to be a legislative ally for this administration. But it was widely assumed that Obama's overtures to McCain in the weeks after the election would dull some of the hard feelings between the two. Now, they are realizing, it has not."Brash political attacks" -- man, why didn't he think of this during the actual campaign?
"He is bitter and really angry," Bob Shrum said of McCain in an interview on Friday. "He is angry at the press, which he thinks is unfair. He is angry at Obama and angry at the voters. He has gone from being an angry old candidate to being an angry old defeated candidate."

I've been meaning to comment on this for some time.
ReplyDeleteSince his defeat in November, I've also noticed on commented on the sheer lunacy of the Retaliban party in regards to Obama. Some have tried to draw comparisons to Bush derangement syndrome but it doesn't fly.Obama was elected, not selected, into office ( hence the egg throwing and the deserved viciousness during his portentous inauguration). Not to mention that good will he destroyed following 9-11.
That McCain is angry,bitter---as is the party and its constituents-- is somewhat of a surprise seeing as Obama really hasn't been in office that long.
So that leaves me to believe that this election defeat was particularly bitter to many becasue---
they lost to the black guy.
That's right losers. We all know the narrative beneath the flimsy attacks. We all pick up on the innuendo from the Rush's and the Hannity's and so forth. It's not hard to see that when Monica Crowley refers to Obama as the first "hip-hop" president that she is playing up the ethnic component to what must have been an embarrassing defeat.
For McCain, who opposed the MLK national holiday movement and didn't bother to apologize for it until he was running for POTUS, losing to the black guy must have been really hard for him. I can imagine all his country-club buddies just giving him hell about it. But somewhere underneath all you Obama derangement syndrome sufferers, I know there is that resentment to losing to the black guy, as it plays into the narrative established by the GOP and all the talk-radio idiots about affirmative action. Don't deny the angry-white-male component that the GOP has been taking advantage of for decades.
It's a shame that you've been reduced to this. Throwing the American people under the bus for the sake of mindless opposition just to stick it to the "hip-hop" president is just another sign of the irrelevance of your ideology.
Thankfully, RS has never shown any signs of this insidious strain of resentment politics. Sure, he's a prick for the " it just won't work" silliness. But he backs it up by attempting a principled opposition... sometimes....
"He is angry at the press, which he thinks is unfair."
ReplyDeleteWhatever gave him that idea?
You gotta love the childlike way Democrats assume everyone's political positions can only be the result of personal affection or disaffection, rather than just a difference of philosophy.
ReplyDeleteAnd the only people who played the race card throughout the interminable primaries and the election were the Obama people. Oh, and the media on behalf of the Obama people.
ReplyDeleteI see that continues even after Obama won. Who is it that is fixated on race here?
Young, give it a rest. If Dr. Thomas Sowell were prez instead of Obama, we'd be cheering. Concentrate more about what's inside of a man's head than what's on top of it, and you'll get the idea (someday.)
