Scavenger Photo Hunt - July

Joining in with the month's Scavenger Photo Hunt organised by Kate at her 'I live, I Love, I Craft, I am Me' blog.

July's words are - cluttered, paddle, pink, starts with an E, roof, my own choice.

All my choices this month were taken during  recent visit to the Beamish Open Air Museum, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham.

Cluttered - the kitchen windowsill at the Home Farm which had been set out as it would have been in the early 1940s with Land Girls living and working there.

Paddle - the webbed feet enabled the geese to paddle around the farm pond.

Pink - a pink quilt on the line at the back of cottages in The Colliery Village, this area was set in the early 1900s.

Starts with an E - the Puffing Billy engine close to the 18th century village, we were taken a short ride to the top of the hill, past the gibbet.

Roof - I loved this roof on the Quilter's Cottage in the 18th Century village.

My Own choice - a collage of the various trams and buses you could hop on and off at all areas around the huge site.

Scavenger Photo Hunt - June

We've been away for a few days so I'm a bit late joining in with this month's Scavenger Photo Hunt organised by Kate at 'I Live, I Love, I Craft, I am Me' blog.

Words for June are:-
Notice, Spotted, starts with a K, Cobweb, Step, My Own Choice

Notice - I didn't notice that a bee had landed on the flower as I took this photo at Trentham Gardens, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

Spotted - 'Have you spotted anything yet, Mildred?
'Just lots of strange creatures pointing things at us, Maurice'
Photo taken at Peak Wildlife Park near Leek, Staffordshire on Sunday 16th June.

Starts with a K - Kingfishers.  Garden decorations for sale at The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Headquarters, at Wolesley Bridge, near Rugeley in Staffordshire.

Cobweb- Spider and web sculpture at The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, Wolesley.

Step- if you step off the step your foot lands in the rill of water running underneath.

My own choice - Black Ruffled Lemur discovers camera bag or perhaps it wants to share the umbrella.  Another photo taken at Peak Wildlife Park.

Scavenger Photo Hunt - May

May has passed by so quickly. It's one of my favourite months but I don't feel as if I have appreciated it or 'felt' it as much as I would have liked. That short, sweet season of light evenings and bright early mornings filled with birdsong is slipping away already.

The words for this month's hunt organised by Kate at 'I live, I love, I craft, I am me'  blog are as follows:-  Seat, View from the seat, Lunch, Starts with a P, Transport, Your Own Choice.

All my photos have been taken locally this time.

Seat- complete with Fairy by the lake at Trentham Gardens, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.

View (from the seat) across the lake and up towards the Oak Wood where on top of the hill stands a statue of the 1st Duke of Sutherland whose family owned the Trentham Estate.

Lunch - Sour Dough Bread and Tintern Cheese from Brown and Green at the Trentham Gardens retail village. Bought after our walk around the lake and taken home to be enjoyed.

Starts with a 'P' - we visited the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery up in the city centre where we saw an exhibition of tapestries designed by Grayson Perry and a small exhibition about Beatrix Potter which featured Peter Rabbit.

Transport - Early one morning I was wondering where I was going to get a transport themed photo in time for today and suddenly heard the sound of a balloon being boosted - sure enough flying otherwise silently over the garden was this balloon transporting the occupants of the basket into an early morning world of mist and delicate sunshine.

Your own choice - we've had this shrub which we call Red Robin for at least fifteen years and it has never flowered before.  This year it is covered in blooms, I expect the type of weather we've had this year has made conditions just right for the flowering.

Scavenger Photo Hunt - April

Words for this month's Scavenger Photo Hunt organised by Kate at 'I Live, I Love, I Craft' blog are - Edge, Loaf, Bridge, Mine, Black and My Own Choice

Edge - The Crags Edge Cafe at the Creswell Crags Visitor Centre was quite busy when we had tea and cake in the afternoon there recently.

The Edge Cafe above

Loaf - Freshly baked loaves just out of the oven and cooling on the tray.

Bridge - at the new Visitor Centre at Sherwood Forest a sculpture which shows the fight on the bridge between Robin Hood and Little John.

Mine - the first museum I worked in was in a town in the coal mining area of Nottinghamshire and we had lots of fossils like the one above on display.  This
Lepidodendron fossil which is on display in Mr Bateman's geological gallery at Biddulph Grange is from a tree also known as a scale tree.  They were part of the coal forest flora.

Black - I thought the delicate tracery of the wrought iron in this bowl shaped pulpit which we saw at St Werburgh's church in Derby looked wonderful in the sunlight streaming through the windows.

My Own Choice - I thought these were fun - 'The Red Barrows' in formation outside the shop and reception area at Newark Air Museum.

Scavenger Photo Hunt - February

The word prompts for this month's Scavenger Photo Hunt which is organised by Kate at 'I Live I Love I Craft' blog are as follows

Sound/Hearing
Smell/Scent
Feel/Touch
Taste
see/sight
own choice

All my photos are from my archives as I haven't been out and about very much this month to collect some new ones.

Sound/Hearing - this photograph was taken at Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire in October 2012. The sculpture was one for four from an exhibition entitled 'Hear, Here' they were all to do with hearing the sounds of and connecting with the wildlife around the estate.  The one above was for hearing the sounds of insects buzzing in the air.

Smell/Scent - the photo above was taken in May 2017 at Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire.  The display was part of an exhibition about the use of herbs and flowers both for medicinal purposes, to induce calm and sleep and also for keeping illness and germs at bay.  Sweet herbs were strewn on the floors and bowls of potpourri and nosegays used to good effect.

Feel/Touch - the feel of the sand on my bare feet the warmth of the shells as I lift them up and place them on the sand.  Photo taken last July on Morfa Bychan beach just along the coastal path from Borth-y-Gest, Porthmadog, Wales.

Taste - all the wonderful tastes of  produce from the summer garden.  Tomatoes, potatoes, courgettes and plums.  Basil, parsley, sage and lavender.  I include lavender in taste as it is delicious in cakes or scones.  Photo from a couple of summers ago.

See/Sight - from the turret window of Plas Mawr you can see the roof tops of the town and the castle in the distance and what a wonderful sight it was.  Photo taken at Conwy, North Wales in May 2017.

My own choice - my first though was that this photograph could be used in the smell/scent category as the smell or scent of bluebells in the woods is so wonderful.  It could also have been used for see/sight as the sight of carpets of bluebells is one of the wonders of Spring.  It won't be too long before we see them again.  This photo was taken last April in Hem Heath Woods, Stoke-0n-Trent.

Scavenger Photo Hunt - November

For some reason I 'm finding it difficult to take decent photos.  I don't know if it is me or the camera I'm using but I've taken quite a few photos over the last few weeks that I've been disappointed with.  As a result all my photos for November are from the archives.  I had great fun searching through to find suitable images.

The word prompts for this month's Scavenger Photo Hunt which is organised by Kate at 'I Live I Love I Craft' blog are as follows  Post/Mail Box, Decay, Secondhand, Strand, Fold, Own Choice

Post Box - Post Box outside the Post Office, which is also a cafe and gift shop, in the village of Hartington in Derbyshire.  Photo taken in February 2011.

Decay -  windows in an old factory building taken a few weeks ago at Masson Mill, Cromford, Derbyshire.

Second Hand - old books in a back room behind a chemist's shop in Stone, Staffordshire.  Photo taken in February 2014.

Strand - strands of wool around the machine in the museum at Masson Mill , Cromford, Derbyshire. Taken on Wednesday 5th October this year.

Fold - sheepfold at Ashford in the Water, Derbyshire.  This photo was taken on 23rd December 2012, I think we were on our way home from visiting relatives in Derbyshire, the river Wye was very high.

Own Choice - I spotted this photo as I was looking through the archives.  It is one of my favourites taken in June 2014 of The Tudor Group on wash day by the River Wye at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire.

I'm posting this a day early so I'll do the links later.

Scavenger Photo Hunt - August.

The photo hunt is a little different this month as words that sound similar but are spelt differently - homophone is the technical or is it grammatical term for this - have been chosen to challenge us.  It's been fun joining in again with Kate at 'I Live, I Love, I Craft, I am Me' blog for August's Scavenger Photo Hunt.

Tea/Tee, Thyme/Time, Aisle/Isle, Fairy/Ferry, Flour/Flower/Own choice

Tea - an abandoned cup on a wall not far from the entrance to a local garden centre.  I wondered if it had been brought out to a workman full of tea?  Or if the owner had wandered to the gate, cup in hand put it down and then forgotten about it? Who knows.

Tee - just happened to be the answer to the clue 'golf peg' in the 'i' newspaper crossword one day last week.

Thyme - growing in the kitchen garden at Biddulph Grange in Staffordshire which we visited a couple of weeks ago - it's our nearest National Trust property.

Time - in Mr Bateman's Geological gallery at Biddulph Grange.  This corridor was the main entrance into the gardens from the house.  From the far end it relates the passage of millions of years through it's display of fossils. More - here

Aisle - a photo taken from the central aisle of St Mary's Church, Nantwich, Cheshire through the chancel to the sanctuary.

Isle - a photo taken in late June in Tideswell in Derbyshire.  This was one of the seven well-dressings scattered around the village.  It depicts the Laxey Wheel on the Isle of Man.  More - here

Fairy - abandoned or lost fairy wings close by the Fairy Village in the woodlands at RSPB Coombes Valley near Cheddleton in Staffordshire.  We spotted these on a recent walk there. There was probably a very upset little fairy somewhere who wondered where her wings were.

Ferry - I had to look back into the archives for this one. Taken on a visit to Liverpool a couple of years ago.  The Dazzle Ferry designed by artist Sir Peter Blake.
More - here

Flower - a Zinnia flower in our garden complete with  a painted lady butterfly, thank you Shazza for the identification.

Flour - some interesting bread making flours on display in a nearby supermarket.

Own choice -  one of this year's male fox cubs in the garden.  The male foxes of this family have white tips to their tails, long noses and black forelegs.

The females have, softer faces and bushy tails with no white tip.  Above is the mother of this year's cubs including the one in the previous photo.
