Queen + Paul Rodgers: Live In Ukraine 2008. YouTube Special. Raising funds for Ukraine Relief

Earlier today a historic 2008 performance by Queen + Paul Rodgers staged in front of a crowd of 350,000 in Kharkiv, Ukraine was streamed via Queen's official YouTube channel for Ukraine Relief.

A screen shot from today's steaming event featuring Queen + Paul Rodgers.

Brian May
and Roger Taylor of Queen shared: “Queen + Paul Rodgers: Live In Ukraine 2008. YouTube Special. Raising funds for Ukraine Relief. In September 2008 Queen + Paul Rodgers answered a call from Ukraine’s Elena Pinchuk’s ANTIAIDS Foundation to reach out to the youth of the country with the message Don’t Let AIDS Ruin Your Life by playing a free Life Must Go On AIDS awareness concert in Kharkiv’s historic Freedom Square to a live audience of more than 350,000 – and a television audience of more than 10 million.”

I really enjoyed the concert and it was nice to help out with the important cause as the invasion by Russia and the obvious genocide of the Ukrainian people continues to play out in Eastern Europe. The setlist includes classics from Queen as well as Rodgers-fronted bands Free and Bad Company.

Donations made in connection with the online concert stream go to UNHCR - The UN Refugee Agency.

Here is the track listing for the two-hour concert:

Social Distance Sounds: Elton John to headline benefit concert; Michael Ubaldini responds to 'Quarantine Blues'; Rock & Roll Hall of Fame connects online

My inbox has been filled up with news related to artists helping health care officials and those impacted by the global coronavirus outbreak. Here are a few I wanted to share and I'll continue to post others in the days ahead...Robert Kinsler

Tim McGraw will perform as part of iHeart Living Room Concert.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artist Elton John will headline a benefit concert on Fox this Sunday night, March 29 to assist with efforts related to the coronavirus pandemic. Other artists scheduled to perform include country music superstar Tim McGraw, hitmakers The Backstreet Boys and rising artist Billie Eilish. "Fox Presents the iHeart Living Room Concert for America" will also feature Alicia Keys and several other favorites. The hour-long event will be held beginning at 9 p.m. (Eastern Time). Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation are the charities to benefit from the benefit concert. For more information, see the Variety article here.

Michael Ubaldini / Photo credit: Jesse Navarro
One of my favorite artists, singer-songwriter Michael Ubaldini, is bringing a series of song-centered live-streamed concert showcases to his Facebook page. The Southern California-based artist has released a number of fantastic albums. Like Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young, Ubaldini is that rare artist able to unleash forceful rockers and affecting Americana ballads with equal authority.

The online events are as follows:

'Folk Song Fridays' will be featured every Friday at 7 p.m., (Pacific Time). This showcase will have Ubaldini performing acoustic traditional folk songs (and a few originals) and talking with people online real time. He will be telling the rough history of the traditional songs - some with roots stretching back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

'Outlaws Of Folk Music Series' will be held the first Saturday of each month (Pacific Time). The first 'Outlaws' showcase will kick off on Saturday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. and will featured 3 or 4 different performers.

'Gospel Music Sunday' will come every 2nd Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. (Pacific Time)

For more information, visit Ubaldini's official website here or his Facebook page here.

If you are not a Facebook friend, you can still see the broadcasts on a public page where the aforementioned performances are reposted the same night.

Music Hugs Benefit Concert coming Sunday, Oct. 14; event to benefit K.I.N.D.

If you are in Southern California this weekend, check out a special event coming on Sunday to Long Beach. The letter from singer-songwriter Michelle Mangione has all the details...

Music Hugs Benefit Concert coming to Long Beach on Sunday, October 14, 2018

Michelle Mangione
Hi there -

A couple months ago, my pal and fellow songwriter Kelly Fitzgerald called me and said she was heartbroken because she had heard about children who were detained and separated from their loved ones at the border. She wanted do do "something" so she asked if I would help her organize a benefit concert. We did tons of research to find a reputable charity and finally found K.I.N.D., an organization which provides free social & legal services for the children. Then we started asking for support from everyone we met in our Long Beach community.
We were met with amazing responses from other musicians, local businesses and just downright good people who all decided to put aside their political differences and make it about what it should be about: helping children who have no choice or resources.

Now we are reaching out to our friends and families to invite you to join us.

This event is about kids and kids are welcome. There will even be a performance by the Sage Hill Singers, an incredible high school choir! The concert will also feature a variety of songwriters and musicians as well as all sorts of opportunities to win fabulous prizes! You can win everything from guitars, to Disneyland tickets and everything in between.
There will be a suggested donation of $20 at the door. 100% of the proceeds go to K.I.N.D.

I do hope you can join us.

Yours truly,

Michelle
