Ringo Starr releases 'Rock Around The Clock' music video

 Media Release

Ringo Starr in his newly released "Rock Around The
Clock" video that premieres today, Oct. 22, 2021.

THE WEEKEND IS HERE AND IT’S TIME TO ROCK-
RINGO RELEASES VIDEO FOR “ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK”

Friday October 22, 2021 – Today Ringo Starr released “Rock Around the Clock,” the latest video from his current EP, Change The World.  The track closes the 4 song EP and has special significance.  As Ringo explains, “Yes let's rock! This track takes me back - rock and roll memories from when I was about to turn 15.  I’d been in hospital with tuberculosis for a year or so, where I’d already spent my 7th and 14th birthdays, and I didn’t want to spend another one there again. I was doing well, so my mother talked to the doctors, and they agreed to let me out."

For Ringo’s 15th birthday his grandparents took him to the Isle of Man and to see the film “Blackboard Jungle.” That’s when he first heard “Rock Around The Clock.” Ringo describes the scene as it played on the big screen, “I'm sitting there, I'd been in the hospital, don't know much about what's going on lately, and they ripped up the cinema!!! They just threw the chairs and went crazy. I thought, ‘WOW this is great!!!!' I remember that moment like it was yesterday, it was incredible. And the song just rocks. So when it came to choosing tracks for this EP I thought of doing 'Rock Around the Clock' for all these good reasons."

The EP was recorded at Starr’s Roccabella West studio, where we find him in this video, looking every bit the dapper rocker in a crisp white jacket with a black lapel.  Interspersed with behind the scenes footage shot during the recording of the track, we see Starr masked with Nathan East on bass, and Bruce Sugar recording killer guitar licks from Joe Walsh in his own home studio.

“I first did a brushes version of it, like old school”, Ringo revealed about the recording process. “Then I thought, ‘Nah, put the sticks on!’ And it rocked! Then I called Joe Walsh and he rocked and it’s a separate solo. If you listen to cover versions of ‘Rock Around The Clock’ everybody plays that same solo, and Joe made this one stand out. So thanks to the great Joe Walsh, Nathan East, Bruce Sugar and let’s not forget our back-up singers Amy Keys and Windy Wagner! Thanks for rocking out with me through the pandemic! And Thank you Bill Haley!  Peace and Love.”
The new EP, which was released September 22, 2021, also includes “Let’s Change The World”, “Coming Undone” and “Just That Way”.  The video was directed and filmed by Brent Carpenter and is released worldwide today.

New music: William Shatner, Bill Lloyd, Clifford / Wright, Ringo Starr

A field of legendary artists return via outstanding new releases.

Artist:

William Shatner
Titles: Bill (Lets Get It Records / Republic Records)
You might like if you enjoy: William Shatner, Leonard Cohen, Brad Paisley, Joe Walsh, Robert Randolph
Tell me more: William Shatner has released a number of celebrated albums dating back to 1968's The Transformed Man. What's so impressive is that how at the age of 90 the famed actor/director/author has released what is likely his most impressive effort. The autobiographical Bill features 14 tracks that collectively chronicle events and challenges of a singular life with compelling candor. The music making equals the cultural icon's ambitious efforts to try and understand the forces at work in his journey; a slew of celebrated artists join in on select tracks recorded during the global pandemic. On the propulsive album opener "I Ride" he taps into the thrill of racing down the road and the freedom that comes with that experience we mostly take for granted. The blues rocker "Made in the Shade" features guitar great Joe Walsh (James Gang, The Eagles) in an enticing effort where Shatner raps with buoyant fervor; in "Masks" Shatner explores the enigma of acting and the "masks" that actors assume in their various roles. The chamber pop flavored "Black Horse" chronicles how a champion horse Shatner had was wrongly transformed into a slave — the artist's obvious guilt about the relationship and how it subsequently led to a deep love of horses and their care comes alive in the song. Other gripping tracks include "Monday Night in London" where Shatner revisits the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic amidst a prog rock soundscape, the gospel flavored "Just Forgive" (with pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph), mortality-focused "What Do We Know" and inspirational "The Bridge." My favorite original of the album is the country-flavored "So Far From the Moon," where Shatner looks back at 1969 when he was hit with the cancellation of "Star Trek," a divorce and was sleeping in the back of his pickup truck in a sleeping bag while doing a tour of dinner theater venues. Nevertheless, he finds strength in the memory knowing that he had met the Apollo 11 astronauts about a year before they successfully landed on the lunar surface. Brad Paisley's flashy lead guitar work and emotive vocals bolster Shatner's reflective reflections on the terrific track. Information: BillTheAlbum.com

Artist:
 Bill Lloyd
Title: Working The Long Game (Big Stir Records / SpyderPop Records)
You might like if you enjoy: Badfinger, Big Star, Tal Bachman
Tell me more: Bill Lloyd's ninth solo album "Working The Long Game" is loaded with songs that feature plenty of hooks, top-tier musicianship, stellar vocals and magic to spare; it's no wonder that the 2018 album release has just been reissued by Big Stir Records and SpyderPop Records so a wider audience can discover this terrific album. Standouts on the first half of the fantastic reissue include the melodic opener "Satellite" (co-written with Freedy Johnston), luxurious "Working The Long Game," wistful folk rocker "What Time Won't Heal" (co-written by Graham Gouldman of 10cc fame) and baroque pop gem "Wake Up Call." The tuneful "Go-To-Girl," cascading "Yesterday" (co-written by Cheap Trick's Tom Petersson, who also plays bass on the track) and glorious "Merch Table" shine on the latter half of "Working The Long Game." "Working The Long Game" is available on vinyl LP, audio CD and streaming on all digital platforms. Information: BigStirRecords.com

Artist:
Clifford / Wright
Title: For All The Money In The World (Cliffsong Records/BFD)
You might like if you enjoy: Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Greg Kihn Band
Tell me more: This year has seen the release of a diverse parade of special reissues and hidden treasures. Add to that list the Clifford / Wright 11-track album For All The Money In The World. Doug "Cosmo" Clifford, the founding drummer of Creedence Clearwater Revival, has dipped into his so-called "Cosmo's Vault" to release a collection of cuts he recorded during the 1980s with bassist Steve Wright (a member of the Greg Kihn Band). With the rhythm section complete, a number of top guests were brought in to complete the recording. Indeed, the list includes guitarists Greg Douglass (of the Steve Miller Band), Jimmy Lyon (Eddie Money) and Joe Satriani along with keyboard players Tim Gorman (The Who) and Pat Mosca (Greg Kihn Band). Keith England sings lead vocals on the project. The previously-unheard material spans from the infectious title track and heartland rocker "I Need Your Love" to the soaring rocker "Lost Pride Fever," mid tempo nugget "I See Your Silhouette" and driving "Lonesome Boy." Listening to the strong tracks across "For All The Money In The World" it's easy to believe a number of these cuts would have graced commercial radio in the 1980s. Artist:
 Ringo Starr
Title: Change The World (UMe)
You might like if you enjoy: Ringo Starr, The Beatles, classic rock
Tell me more: Ringo Starr has released his latest EP, the wonderful Change The World, a four-song disc filled with the beloved artist's hopes for a better world. The spirited opener "Let's Change The World" (penned by Toto's Joseph Williams and Steve Lukather) is melodic to be sure, with Starr's signature baritone perfectly in sync with the song's positive flow. The reggae track "Just That Way" (co-written by Starr with Bruce Sugar) is fantastic, bolstered by a deep groove, lush backing female vocals and the addition of horns to enhance the soundscape. Starr's first-ever collaboration with famed singer-songwriter/producer Linda Perry, the countrified "Coming Undone," soars and is bolstered by some sweet licks and a memorable solo from Trombone Shorty. The EP also features a rollicking cover of the 1954 Bill Haley & His Comets classic "Rock Around The Clock," a swinging version of the groundbreaking single that catapulted rock music into the mainstream; that closing track also features guest Joe Walsh. NEW YORK, NY – AUGUST 27TH – Today, award-winning actor, director, producer, writer, and chart-topping recording artist William Shatner announces his forthcoming new album, BILL, set for release on September 24th via Joe Jonas’ new label Let’s Get It! Records/Republic Records. To celebrate the announcement, William Shatner teams up with Joe Jonas and Brad Paisley to release the first two singles from the album, “Clouds of Guilt” feat. Joe Jonas and “So Far From the Moon” feat. Brad Paisley, out now.

Through spoken word and genre-bending music, the songs on BILL chronicle significant autobiographical moments in William Shatner’s life and the ideas, challenges, and questions he’s confronted along the way. The tracks were co-written and produced by Grammy Award-winner Dan Miller [They Might Be Giants], while the lyrics were a collaboration between Shatner and his friend and writer Robert Sharenow. In addition to Joe Jonas and Brad Paisley, BILL features guitarist Joe Walsh [James Gang, Eagles, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band], pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph [Robert Randolph and the Family Band], musician John Lurie, saxophonist Dave Koz, and more. See the full tracklist below.

On creating the album remotely during the pandemic, William Shatner says, “Through a series of phone calls, texts, and emails, music and words flew back and forth across the country. The [Covid-19] crisis created an urgency and quickly unleashed a candor between us that allowed us to peel back layers that sat on the surface of a subject to reveal the depth of truth buried underneath. What better time to contemplate life’s biggest questions than during a global pandemic? Some songs touched on painful or beautiful moments, while others turned into elliptical philosophical explorations about the very nature of existence and death.”

He continues, “BILL blends long-form autobiographical poetry and prose, music, spoken word performance art, and philosophical exploration. Toggling between passion and despair, reflection and yearning, this collection explores my life journey during a pivotal and chilling moment of history.”

On “Clouds of Guilt,” William Shatner explores the strangely powerful role guilt has played throughout his life, with equal measures of wit, irony, and self-awareness.

Joe Jonas states, “I’ve been a fan of Bill’s for as long as I can remember. He’s iconic. To not only be featured on one of his songs that mean so much to him but to also get to be a label partner on the entire project, it’s an honor.”

While on “So Far From the Moon,” William Shatner revisits a pivotal moment in his life after the cancelation of Star Trek and his divorce, when he was doing dinner theater and living out of the back of his pickup truck. One the night of July 20th, 1969, as he lay out in a sleeping bag in the back of the truck, staring at the sky, he listened to the live broadcast of the moon landing. Despite being at a low point in his career, Shatner found inspiration and a connection to the astronauts in the sky above, who he had met years before while they were training for their mission.

Brad Paisley comments, “It’s so interesting to hear what effect the moon landing had on Bill, because every generation of astronauts since those days credit him with inspiration. I’m so proud to be on this track.”

The other songs on BILL dive into various stories and topics, including the nature of relationships, the struggle with fame and identity, the meaning of life, and more. Like epic song cycles of the past from Homer to Kendrick Lamar, William Shatner’s journey is both extremely personal and universal, extraordinary and relatable. His unique insights and delivery, beloved by millions worldwide, give voice to the joys and struggles we all face.

Stay tuned for more music to come from William Shatner soon!

Shatner continues to act, write, produce, direct, and write and record music, while still making time to work with charities and further his passion in equestrian sports. He lives in Los Angeles, CA.

Wednesday, December 9, 2020 (Los Angeles, CA.) – Joe Walsh reveals the final artist lineup and details for this Saturday’s VetsAid 2020: Home for the Holidays today, boasting nearly 50 performances and appearances, the multi-hour music festival will raise sorely needed funds to veterans services groups across the country. Join Joe and his friends December 12 for a worldwide broadcast of unique performances, never-before-seen VetsAid footage from years past and great stories from some of the greatest musicians in the world. VetsAid is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and multi-GRAMMY Award winning musician's national 501(c)3 non-profit veterans organization.

“Wow – what a show we have this year! Such a diverse and wonderful line up!” Walsh explains, “When you have something like this you humbly ask your friends and colleagues and hope a couple will sign on – kind of like going fishing – but this year everyone I asked said yes! And now it’s turned into a virtual music festival like no other. We know the plight of our vets is hard enough in the best of times, and they are especially vulnerable during this pandemic.

“I am proud of this nationwide tradition we’ve created and I’m so glad we can have this show during the holidays featuring all these artists that I love. I’ve got a great feeling about it and know fans will too. I hope it shows the Vets how many people care and want to help - I can’t think of a better way to remember and honor the men and women who have served our country this holiday season than by helping us raise funds to support their essential and basic needs.”

This ticketed event will be streamed on December 12 starting at 6pm ET via vetsaid.veeps.com and will also be available for restream through December 14.

Joe Walsh launched VetsAid on September 20, 2017 with an inaugural concert at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, VA. The second festival event was in Tacoma, WA and the third in Houston, TX.  VetsAid typically seeks to host the events in cities across the country with large veteran populations. The shows have included performances by musicians including James Taylor, Chris Stapleton, Don Henley, ZZ Top, Sheryl Crow, The Doobie Brothers, Zac Brown Band, Jason Isbell, Keith Urban, Haim, Gary Clark Jr. and Joe’s brother-in-law Ringo.

VetsAid has raised nearly 1.5 million dollars and supports veterans and their families.

All net proceeds from the 2020 festival will go directly to the veterans’ services charities selected through a vetting process coordinated in tandem with the Combined Arms Institute.

CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL’S PENDULUM AND MARDI GRAS
SET FOR HALF-SPEED MASTERED 180-GRAM VINYL REISSUES

Band’s sixth and seventh studio albums include classic hits
“Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” “Hey Tonight,” and “Sweet Hitch-Hiker”

Los Angeles, CA (December 9, 2020)—Craft Recordings continues their salute to the enduring musical legacy of Creedence Clearwater Revival with the release of half-speed mastered editions of the band’s two final albums: Pendulum, which was released exactly 50 years ago today (December 9, 1970), and their closing studio album, 1972’s Mardi Gras. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl and set for release February 12thboth records were mastered by the award-winning engineer Miles Showell at Abbey Road StudiosAvailable for pre-order beginning today, these audiophile-quality LPs come housed in beautifully crafted jackets (tip-on gatefold for Pendulum and embossed for Mardi Gras), replicating the albums’ original packaging.

Pendulum, which marked CCR’s second release of 1970—following Cosmo’s Factory—was a unique title in the band’s catalog for several reasons. First, the album was the group’s sole LP to feature all original material. Typically, CCR sprinkled covers of blues songs, traditional material, and rock ‘n’ roll standards into each of their albums, putting their own spin on classic favorites. Pendulum also found the guitar-heavy group expanding their sonic palate—experimenting with new sounds (including the use of saxophones, vocal choirs, and keyboards) and even venturing into psychedelia.

The quartet’s musical explorations paid off. Not only was Pendulum a critical success, but it also spawned two global Top Ten hits: the reflective “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and the upbeat “Hey Tonight. The singles, released as a double A-side in 1971, peaked at No.8 on the Billboard Hot 100. Other highlights included the stomper “Molina, the bluesy “Pagan’s Groove” and the twangy “Sailor’s Lament.” Recently, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” gained renewed popularity with the 2018 launch of a new official music video featuring Sasha Frolova, Jack Quaid, and Erin Moriarty (the latter two also featuring in Amazon’s smash hit series, The Boys), introducing the song to a new generation. To date, the video—available on the official CCR YouTube channel—has received over 61 million plays.

Creedence Clearwater Revival’s seventh and final studio album, 1972’s Mardi Gras, followed the departure of founding member and rhythm guitarist Tom Fogerty. The album, however, found the remaining trio of musicians taking a more collaborative approach to songwriting. Prior to Mardi Gras, frontman John Fogerty was the band’s creative leader—writing, arranging, and producing the majority of every album. For Mardi Gras, bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug Clifford not only penned many of the tracks (including Cook’s hard-driving “Door to Door,” and Clifford’s rollicking “Tearin’ Up the Country”) but also sang on them. Other highlights off the album include a cover of the rockabilly classic “Hello Mary Lou,” as well as the Fogerty-penned rocker “Sweet Hitch-Hiker”—a Top Ten hit in the US, Australia, Canada, and across Europe. The poignant “Someday Never Comes,” meanwhile, marked the group’s final single.

While the band members went their separate ways after Mardi Gras, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s legacy only continued to grow. Today, CCR remains one of the best-selling groups of all time, thanks to their trove of generation-defining hits and their singular, roots-rock sound.

Roughly half a century later, CCR fans can enjoy a new vibrancy when they revisit Pendulum and Mardi Gras, thanks to the exacting process of half-speed mastering. Using high-res transfers from the original analog tapes, the process involves playing back the audio at half its recorded speed while the cutting lathe is also turned to half the desired playback speed. The technique allows more time to cut a micro-precise groove, resulting in more accuracy with frequency extremes and dynamic contrasts. The result on the turntables is an exceptional level of sonic clarity and punch.

Both of these special pressings were previously released only as part of Creedence’s collectible, seven-LP The Studio Albums Collection box set, and follow standalone reissues of the band’s first five albums—available here.

Earlier this year, the three surviving members of CCR spoke with Uncut and reflected on their time in the band. “We didn’t get to where we got just falling off a log,” said John Fogerty, as he spoke of the band’s tireless work ethic. “It’s a wonderful thing to have a goal and then to attain it, more or less.” Stu Cook compared the band’s rise to “a rocket ride, we went up so fast. We burned until we burned out, in three-and-a-half years from start to finish.” But, while brief, those years together brought the group unparalleled creative achievement and global success. “We had a magic band,” recalled Doug Clifford. “We got high playing the music.” Fogerty added that he was “humbly pleased” knowing that, 50 years later, CCR’s music “is still relevant, that people still care about it. That’s just so satisfying.”

Pre-order Pendulum or Mardi Gras half-speed masters, with special bundles offered via the Craft Recordings store. A limited gold vinyl edition of Pendulum is also available exclusively via Vinyl, Me Please.

“It’s about damn time somebody drew the line back!”
 Pete Seeger

“This is a story of how Béla Fleck, America’s most celebrated banjoist, went on a quest in search of his musical soul mate’s African roots—and wound up discovering himself… Throw Down Your Heart is not just a stunning documentary and soundtrack, but an important work of artistic memory and conscience.”
 Los Angeles Times

“Traditional African music turns out to suit him beautifully… At every turn Mr. Fleck works respectfully, learning and adapting, trusting sameness over difference.”
– The New York Times

“…a dazzling film. Throw Down Your Heart is proof positive that music is life.”
– Michael McKean

“With Throw Down Your Heart, Béla Fleck has contributed significantly to the history of the banjo, as well as inventing a style of music never before played on this great instrument.”
– Steve Martin

Throw Down Your Heart speaks to your heart all along the way, making the case, subtly but clearly, that we are connected… A beautiful, poignant and well-crafted film.”
– Zakir Hussain

– Christopher Guest

“Today in the world everything seems to be about quantity, but I think the quality is the most important thing. This film is quality. I learned things that I did not know about Africa and African music. It will help social and cultural development... people without culture are people without soul!”
