The Cowsills Release Xmas EP 'A Christmas Offering From The Cowsills' via Omnivore Recordings

The Cowsills Release New Christmas EP

A Christmas Offering From The Cowsills
Out Now via Omnivore Recordings

Includes Two Original Holiday Songs Plus A New Version Of  “Winter Wonderland”

October 27, 2023: The Cowsills, the hit family singing group of the ‘60s, have released A Christmas Offering From The Cowsills, a new digital-only Christmas EP featuring two originals, “Christmastime (Song For Marissa)” and “Some Good Years,” plus a new, acapella version of the holiday favorite, “Winter Wonderland.” The EP follows a very busy year for The Cowsills, who released their first album in 30 years, Rhythm Of The World (2022), and have been touring extensively the past 9 summers on the Turtles' annual Happy Together Tour.

Formed in 1965, The Cowsills would become a worldwide phenomenon when “The Rain, The Park And Other Things” spent two weeks at #2 in 1967 (blocked from the top of the charts by The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer”). The Top 10 “Indian Lake” followed in 1968, and “Hair” matched their two weeks at #2 benchmark in 1969. The family band became the inspiration for The Partridge Family, and even recorded the theme to Love, American Style.

In the early ‘90s, the family regrouped to record a Christmas single “Christmastime (Song for Marissa).” The melody for “Christmastime (Song for Marissa)”, was written in the late ‘70s and sat for years without lyrics as an instrumental. Once it was recognized as Christmas music the lyrics were added in 1986 and a brand new Christmas carol was born. Joined by friends and admirers including The BanglesVicki Peterson and Michael Steele, and Peter Holsapple of The dB’s, “Christmastime (Song for Marissa)” was finally recorded in the summer of 1992. Along with “Some Good Years,” these two songs were actually released as a collector’s 45 RPM single edition on Rockville Records in 1993.

These tracks return three decades later on A Christmas Offering From The Cowsills, joined by an all-new, acapella version of the holiday classic “Winter Wonderland.” Available digitally, these tracks help illuminate why The Cowsills stay in our collective ears.

Tell me more: Duran Duran's Halloween-themed album Danse Macabre may immerse itself in the dark and spooky trappings of the holiday but is thankfully not bound but them. Indeed, Danse Macabre is a decidedly fun listen that finds the pioneering British quartet
— singer Simon Le Bon, bassist John Taylor, drummer Roger Taylor and keyboardist Nick Rhodes  offering up a winning mix of brand new originals, creatively reworked covers of songs by Talking HeadsThe Rolling StonesBillie Eilish and The Specials and even new versions of past Duran Duran classics. What's more, the concept album includes a celebrated parade of musical guests including producer/guitarist/composer Nile RodgersMåneskin singer Victoria De Angelis and former Duran Duran members Andy Taylor and Warren Cuccurullo

Among the terrific cuts on Danse Macabre are the unsettling opener "Nightboat," a shimmering bass-heavy grooving version of Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer" featuring guest vocals from De Angelis, the gothic dance title track, instantly-accessible funk foray "Black Moonlight," playful "Ghost Town," a fiery run through Siouxsie and the Banshees' "Spellbound" and a propulsive take on The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black." The 13-track album closes with the luxuriously beautiful "Confession In The Afterlife."

Danse Macabre is out now via Tape Modern for BMG with artwork featuring images adapted from a collection of authentic vintage séance photos sourced by Nick Rhodes at auction.  It is available on Black 2LP and CD, with a limited-edition Translucent Galaxy 2LP. The album is also available on high res Blu-ray audio.

NEW GOLD DREAM – LIVE FROM PAISLEY ABBEY

SIMPLE MINDS RELEASE NEW GOLD DREAM: LIVE FROM PAISLEY ABBEY
OUT TODAY - OCTOBER 27TH

RECORDED FOR SKY ARTS ‘GREATEST ALBUMS LIVE’ SERIES

‘New Gold Dream – Live From Paisley Abbey’ finds Simple Minds at the very top of their game. Reminding people why, after 45 years, they are still such a revered band, and why New Gold Dream is such a critically lauded, groundbreaking album.

Having celebrated its 40th birthday last year, the mesmerising New Gold Dream was the album that began Simple Minds crossover as a major force in the pop music of the 1980s, reaching number 3 on the UK album chart. Working with Peter Walsh, the band was able to realise the sophisticated, accessible pop sound they were striving for, whilst continuing their quest for experimentation.

This achievement was reflected in three incredible and successful singles: ‘Promised You A Miracle’, ‘Glittering Prize’ and ‘Someone, Somewhere (In Summertime)’, which U2’s Bono picked as one of his Desert Island Discs when paying tribute to the band and New Gold Dream’s influence on him and U2.

Sky Arts transmitted a one-off filmed live performance of Simple Minds playing their seminal 1982 album New Gold Dream. The performance was filmed a short distance from the band’s hometown of Glasgow, in the stunning setting of the 12th century Paisley Abbey.

Recorded late last year, the programme is part of Sky Arts’ ‘Greatest Albums live’ series, which captures iconic artists playing classic albums from their illustrious careers.
New Gold Dream – Live from Paisley Abbey offers fans the chance to buy the audio of this special one-off performance, either as a digital download, CD or a limited edition red transparent marble vinyl LP housed in a gatefold sleeve.

“When it came to choosing a venue to perform New Gold Dream, we wanted to do it somewhere locally. And obviously the band being from Glasgow, it had to be somewhere nearby. But it also had to be somewhere at some Grandeur and something that was just out of the norm, because it is a special album for us. And so Paisley Abbey, knowing its history and knowing the look of the place, we thought this would be something special.” – Jim Kerr
