My friend, Ed Belbruno has just updated his website for the fine art part of his career. His work is derived from his other career as a Mathematician dealing with space flight and trajectory paths to the moon. I respond to the part of his art that deals with the creative while his other profession deals with the precise and how they balance each other out. Go See This. Scott Teplin "Whiplash" @ Seven Arts Gallery, Ridgefield, CT.

If you are in the Ridgefield, CT area this Saturday, Scott Teplin will be having an art opening of recent works titled "Whiplash" at Seven Arts Gallery located at 54 Ethan Allen Highway/Route 7. The opening reception will be from 6-8PM and the artist will be present.

Teplin is an obsessive drawer known for creating meticulously rendered drawings in which real world objects morph into a fantastical amalgamation of discordant forms, shapes, and colors. For this series, he collages found photographs of horrifying crash scenes and then redraws these compositions until the hard metal lines transform into softer shapes that more closely resemble organic objects. Ultimately about control, the pieces present an alternate interpretation of actual events–one in which documentation is transformed and transmuted to create a new reality that is as whimsical as it is disconcerting.
