Shark Week at Georgetown Cupcake
Shark Week is underway. The cable TV sharkfest isn't quite the same around here since Discovery Inc. fled Montgomery County for greener business pastures in Knoxville, Tennessee, taking thousands of jobs with them. Montgomery County was once the central locus of Shark Week worldwide, with grand promotional displays on the exterior of the former Discovery headquarters in downtown Silver Spring. Now we'll have to settle for Georgetown Cupcake's annual Shark Week limited-edition cupcake line at Bethesda Row. Post a photo of yours on social media with the hashtag #SharkWeek.

Shark Week cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcakes at Bethesda Row (Video + photos)
Shark Week is well underway, and you can expand the experience offscreen by heading to Georgetown Cupcake at Bethesda Row for official Shark Week cupcakes. Ocean blue frosting tops a chocolate cake, with an edible shark fin slicing through the sugary waves. A sprinkle of blue sugar crystals gives a sun-on-the-water effect.
They are pricey at $3.25 a piece. I rate them 4 stars out 5, deducting one star for the lack of a filling in the center of the cake, which I feel is a must at this price point. The overall buttery-sweet frosting and rich chocolate cake flavor still make this a worthwhile purchase if you are a major fan of Shark Week.
You can watch my full review on YouTube.

GEORGETOWN CUPCAKE HALLOWEEN CUPCAKE REVIEW (VIDEO + PHOTOS)
Georgetown Cupcake added two pumpkin Halloween flavors for the month of October yesterday at Bethesda Row. I stopped by and picked up one Pumpkin Spice and one Pumpkin Cheesecake. They look very similar, down to their edible leaf decoration, but are actually very different types of cupcakes. Should you stop by yourself and try them? Watch my video review to find out!

GOLDFISH HOLIDAY VANILLA CUPCAKE GRAHAMS REVIEW (VIDEO)
Pepperidge Farm has a special Goldfish graham cookie for the holidays - Goldfish Holiday Vanilla Cupcake Grahams. Does it really have the rich flavor of a Georgetown Cupcake or Tastykake? Watch my video review to find out.
Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays, to all readers! Thank you for your continued support; this blog can't be done without you!

WRITERS ON THE ROW: BETHESDA ROW'S BLOCKBUSTER BOOK AND AUTHOR EVENT, OCTOBER 11-14, 2012
SAVE THE DATE FOR
4 DAYS OF FOOD, FASHION,
FAME AND... BOOKS!
Another Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row Exclusive
Bethesda Row is playing host to one of the best book festivals in the area this October 11-14: Writers on The Row.
Unlike some book fairs, you've likely heard of most or all of the authors appearing at this one. And with this being Bethesda Row, expect food and fashion events to be a part of the celebration.
Are you a fan of Pardon the Interruption on ESPN, Pregnant in Heels on Bravo, or True Blood on Showtime? How about Georgetown Cupcake?
Then you definitely don't want to miss this blockbuster event!
Here's a rundown of the events scheduled so far:
Thursday, October 11
Michael Wilbon of the aforementioned PTI will be at Equinox from 7-9 PM, to discuss The Best American Sports Writing 2012.
True Blood fans, however, will be on Bethesda Lane to meet Karen Sommer Shalett, co-author of True Blood: Eats, Drinks, and Bites from Bon Temps.
Friday, October 12
Rosie Pope, star of Pregnant in Heels, will appear on Bethesda Lane with her upcoming book, pregnancy guide Mommy IQ, from 6-8 PM.
Saturday, October 13
Meet Cheryl and Peter Barnes, authors of Woodrow for President, from 2-4 PM on Bethesda Lane.
Actor/comedian/author Richard Belzer will be on Bethesda Lane (is that a movie plot in itself, or what?) from 4-6 PM. I think I remember this guy from the short-lived but classic superhero series, The Flash - but most know him from slightly-trendier, mainstream shows. His book, Dead Wrong: Straight Facts on the Country's Most Controversial Cover-Ups is definitely a daring choice for Bethesda. This is a government town, where conspiracy theories are not usually warmly received. That will definitely be an interesting 2 hours. Is Bethesda ready for "the truth?"
Sunday, October 14
Bethesda Row favorites Katherine Kallinis Berman and Sophie Kallinis LaMontagne of Georgetown Cupcake will be on the Lane from 1-3 PM. They'll be talking about the book that's likely to be one of the most popular holiday gifts this year, Sweet Celebrations: Our Favorite Cupcake Recipes, Memories, and Decorating Secrets that Add Sparkle to Any Occasion.
From 3-5 PM, they'll be followed by Maz Rauber and Amy Reingold, who wrote the novel Capital Girls under the nom de plume (hey, it's Bethesda Row, and I'm speaking French) Ella Monroe. Now becoming a series of books, Capital Girls takes Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars to Washington, D.C. If that sounds interesting to you, you know where you'll be that afternoon.
Stay tuned for more details as the event gets closer, but it's quite an impressive lineup Federal Realty has assembled for such a new event.

ROCKVILLE TOWN SQUARE CELEBRATES 5 YEARS... WITH BETHESDA ROW CUPCAKES?
The same day that The Gazette published an edition bearing a gaffe-ridden ad sticker, the City of Rockville experienced a municipal pride faux pas of its own.
Last Tuesday, Rockville Town Square turned 5. City elders and property owners held a celebration there. According to The Sentinel, the birthday cupcakes given out were from... Bethesda?!
Yes, Georgetown Cupcakes at Bethesda Row, to be precise.
Of course, the fact that Federal Realty owns both Bethesda Row and Rockville Town Square explains why Georgetown Cupcakes would be involved. But why would the city commit such an obvious gaffe, when cupcake shops like Cake Dreams and The Cakery are within their city limits? Predictably, it takes someone like me to point this out, but weren't Rockville residents offended by "imported" cupcakes to celebrate a city milestone?
Speaking of offense, I wonder how former Mayor Doug Duncan feels about being repeatedly referred to as "Dan Duncan" in the Sentinel article?
The City of Rockville and Federal Realty, for insulting the taxpayers of Rockville with outsourced confectionary goods, you are the winners of the Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row "Rick Perry Award."
"Oops."

GEORGETOWN
CUPCAKE TO
OPEN IN DOWNTOWN
BETHESDA
Cover your ears again, George Leventhal! Another forbidden food is coming to downtown Bethesda this year: Cupcakes. That's right, the all-American cupcake - formerly the dessert of choice at school birthday parties... ...until the Democratic Party became the Food Police and Fun Police.
Apparently, even our far-reaching Food and Fun Police on the County Council cannot stop all-American greasy burgers and fries (Five Guys), nor cupcakes (Georgetown Cupcake) from being sold in downtown Bethesda.
Have you watched the latest programming on the Robert Dyer Channel? The Angus Burger Unboxing has a lot of hits, but you've missed out on Westbard, Episode 6: Giant Truck; Damascus, Episode 9: Damascus Recreation Center; Ride On Bus 29; and 2 videos of Carroll Creek in Frederick.
So hurry to http://www.robertdyer.net/ to watch them now!
