A Small Finish and A New Start!

After finishing up Ruth bachelor, I needed something that was mostly just cross stitch so I picked up an older pattern that I had in my stash -- A Dutch Sampler from Treasures Magazine.  This was designed as a part of a sampler series by Sandy Orton.  I have completed the other three samplers in the series - An American Sampler, An English Sampler, and A Spanish Sampler - so this would complete the set.

I really like the Dutch and German samplers.  They are full of different motifs and some wonderful alphabets. And the best part is most of them contain a ship which I am very fond of from my past sailor days.

In my last post I stated that I was going to start/re-start IRS 1738. I had started this sampler a couple of years ago but did not like the way the colors looked on the linen that I had selected.  So I restarted it a couple of weeks ago and did not get very far before I got bored. So I started another sampler which I mentioned - A Flamestitch by Scarlet Letter.  As previously stated I think I am addicted to the Irish stitch now. This is part of Nicola's Scarlet Letter Year.  If you have not visited this blog I highly recommend a visit.  It is a pleasure to see all the different Scarlet Letter samplers that people are currently working on.

I am working this on 40-ct Lakeside Linen Pear using DMC. I am working the alphabet and some of the bands as charted with the eyelet stitch but have decided to do the scallop band in rice stitch.

As you can see I get easily bored so I have worked my way down the left hand side to the bottom where I can work some on the flower band with the filled in background.  That way I can jump back and forth between the parts as I get bored with one area. What can I say - a case of stitching ADD!

I have also been working on some of my works in progress. Currently some of my stitching time is being sent on Blackbird Designs Anniversaries of the Heart.  I will post a picture of this one next time.

On the health front - I only have one more chemo therapy treatment to go and it is scheduled to start on  Monday, 22 April.  So I will be officially done with chemo on Wednesday, 24 April when they disconnect the pump which I need to where for 46 hours. At that time I can officially say that I have fought this battle and won.

Once again thank you all for your kind thoughts, words of encouragement, prayers, and friendship. As previously stated my family and I cannot thank you enough.

Happy stitching...

Robert

Beautiful stitching progress as always! Love the Pear-colour of the linen, have to remember to put that on my purcase list for later.

I too, get easily bored on some stitching, and jump here and there to keep up the interest:)

Sandy Ortons designs are so nice, and BB´s Anniversaries of the Heart is on my worktable too, so very much looking forward to hear more about your stitching later on.

Sending boosting energy and warmest greetings to you and your family.

Great finish. That was one of my favorite magazines - pity it was so short lived. Flamestitch is beautiful. Love the bottom band. Keeping you in my thoughts as you finish your chemo treatments.
It's a beautiful sampler. I love doing florentine stitch too, it's so relaxing to work on. I'm glad you are getting close to your last chemo - it will be so good to have this behind you.

I really like that Dutch sampler with the ship, Robert. That'll be a fun one to stitch. I have stitching ADD too, so I definitely understand about jumping around on a project. In my case, it means many starts, and not many finishes!

Glad to hear your great health news, also! Congratulations. Hope you're feeling well.

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. I do have a few finishes and will spread these out over the next couple of weeks. First up is one that had been in the WIP pile for a long time -- Not For Us Alone from Amy Mitten.  Amy taught this piece at the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild back in the early 2000's (I cannot remember the date/year that I took the class). A friend of mine took the class with me and she had finished hers a long time ago. She recently moved and hung the sampler in her dining room.  So needless to say every time I go over to her house it was taunting me to get mine finished.  So here is my completed Not For Us Alone. Mary Allen 1818 Finished!

Once again I must thank all of you for your kind words and comments on my blog. I have meet some wonderful people in this venture who share the same passion for needlework. I was really surprised when I went to compose my blog post today and noticed that I have 199 followers. I will put something together for a little drawing so please stay posted. We finally have some decent weather in Texas (no +100F days since we had a cool front that moved into the area last night). Our high temperature for the day was only 81F and expected to get down into the low 60s overnight.  I could get use to this but we are expected to get back into the lower 90's by the end of the week.  But it is still try (no measureable rain received or expected) leaving us still in a severe drought situation. So we are still praying for rain. My goal was to finish Sampler's Rembered Mary Allen 1818 by Labor Day and I put the last stitches in on Saturday, September 3. ...

Back in the Saddle!

Hello to all my fellow stitchers/bloggers and thank you for stopping by! I cannot believe that it has been over 2 months since my last post. Where does the time go? I have been away from the blogging world due to some unforeseen health issues. I have posted a brief summary and update at the end of this blog if you are interested. As stated in my last post, I lost a little bit of my mojo in the stitching realm. I could not focus on any of my projects. I decided to focus on the Mexican Schoolgirl Practice Sampler c1830 by Samplers Remembered . This one had some bright colors and different motifs which at least made me feel like I was making some progress. Worked on 40-ct Porcelain Lakeside Linen using DMC and the recommended Waterlilies. After this was completed I decided to start Sarah Elizabeth Brooke’s 1842 by The Scarlet House . This was a very fun stitch and kept me occupied during my recovery from surgery. I stitched the grassy area at the bottom of the sampler us...
