Frances Eden / Elizabeth Sheffield Progress

Hello to all my fellow stitchers, followers, and friends -- I cannot believe that it has been over a month since my last post. Seems that time has gotten away from me once again.

My goal for April was to start and finish Frances Eden, Unfortunately, I was not able to reach that goal mainly due to business travel and enjoying the great weather that we have been having in North Texas. I have been spending a lot of my spare time working on out flower and herb gardens. I was hoping to get some raised vegetables beds in place this year but looks like that will have to wait until the fall.

I was able to get a lot done though on Frances Eden 1809 from Handwork Samplers.

Worked on 40-ct Examplar Lakeside Linen using HDF silks

I really like the colors in this one but do not like having to do the same motif twice in the same colors. I did get a little bit bored so to shake things up a little bit I picked back up Elizabeth Sheffield from Scarlet Letter around the first of May.

Elizabeth Sheffield 1784 from Scarlet Letter
35-ct Beige Weeks Dye Works using recommended DMC threads

This one is working up really nice. I am doing the x-stitch over one as charted for the alphabet and verse but the rest of the over one I decided to do in tent stitch. I am getting good coverage this way and not nearly as frustrating as having to do it all in over one on 35-ct. The alphabet and verse look better with a complete x-stitch. The one thing that bugs me about this sampler is the line that states the day, month and year that she was born -- July 26 177?. You cannot make out the year.  It is just some strange character/symbol. According to the sampler and the documentation provided by the Scarlet Letter the sampler was completed on 10 October 1784. Since she does not provide her age at the time she completed the sampler it is hard to decifer the character for the year she was born. Any ideas?

A couple of comments left on my last post of Frances Eden wanted to know about the spools of thread and storage that I am using. The fibers are from Hand-Dyed Fibers. They offer their silk threads on mini spools of 150 yards or on micro spools of 52.2 yards in addition to their six-stranded 5-yard skeins. These are great because they are easier to work with, in that you can cut off the length that you need for the area that you are stitiching. For storing these I am using some small clear stackable pill boxes that I found at The Container Store. You can buy these individually or as a stack of 6. I have also found a storage box that is divided and fits the spools really nice so that I can store the color families easily. Makes it easy to organize the spools - for storing and for use stitching. I got this idea from a stitching friend last year when Hand-Dyed fibers started releasing the silk on spools.

One of my local needlework shops had their annual framing sale during January/February and I had two pieces framed.

Elizabeth Telzer from Threads of Gold
Completed in August 2009 on 40-ct Pearled Barley Lakeside Linen using recommended AVAS threads

Dorothy Preston from Sampler & Antique Needlework: A Year in Stitches Volume 1
Completed in June 2009 on 40-ct Chantilly Crene Lakeside Linen using AVAS and NPI threads

Thank you as always for stopping by and visiting me and my little blog. Your comments and encouragement mean so much to me.

Wow--love the framed pieces and your two WIPs. You are making great progress on both of them, especially since I know how time-consuming Liz Sheffield is!

Your WIPs are both gorgeous. Love how Elizabeth Sheffield looks, and Frances is wonderful. Love your two framed pieces! I so need to stitch Elizabeth Telfer now. lol!

Your WIPs are looking fantastic. Now you're making me want to get back to mine. I know what you mean about doing motifs that are the same color - tends to get boring. That's why it's always good to have another project to fall back on for a bit.

Love both your framed pieces too - especially Dorothy Preston.

Wow, your photos are lovely. I have all of these charts and I have done Dorothy Preston a long time ago. She is a beauiful sampler. I always think that SL Dorcas Haynes would look lovely with her. You are making great progress on Frances and Elizabeth. - Sandra.

Just browsing random blogs and came across yours. Beautiful work. Your Frances Eden actually caught my eye. My daughter Paulette just finished it and had it framed. I have not seen it in person yet, but Jill Rensel has it posted on her site. The frame is awesome.
And I love that Elizabeth Sheffield..so many people are working on that one; me too, though I just have a little done on it. Love the colors.
Your framed samplers are stunning!

Back in the Game!

Once again I have been away from my blog for way too long.  I get caught up in a lot of other things rather than posting pics of starts and finishes. These last couple of months have gone by way too fast. I have received a couple of messages from some followers making sure I was okay and looking forward to an update. I do have a few finishes and will spread these out over the next couple of weeks. First up is one that had been in the WIP pile for a long time -- Not For Us Alone from Amy Mitten.  Amy taught this piece at the Tudor Rose Sampler Guild back in the early 2000's (I cannot remember the date/year that I took the class). A friend of mine took the class with me and she had finished hers a long time ago. She recently moved and hung the sampler in her dining room.  So needless to say every time I go over to her house it was taunting me to get mine finished.  So here is my completed Not For Us Alone. Mary Allen 1818 Finished!

Once again I must thank all of you for your kind words and comments on my blog. I have meet some wonderful people in this venture who share the same passion for needlework. I was really surprised when I went to compose my blog post today and noticed that I have 199 followers. I will put something together for a little drawing so please stay posted. We finally have some decent weather in Texas (no +100F days since we had a cool front that moved into the area last night). Our high temperature for the day was only 81F and expected to get down into the low 60s overnight.  I could get use to this but we are expected to get back into the lower 90's by the end of the week.  But it is still try (no measureable rain received or expected) leaving us still in a severe drought situation. So we are still praying for rain. My goal was to finish Sampler's Rembered Mary Allen 1818 by Labor Day and I put the last stitches in on Saturday, September 3. Again, this was a fun sti

Back in the Saddle!

Hello to all my fellow stitchers/bloggers and thank you for stopping by! I cannot believe that it has been over 2 months since my last post. Where does the time go? I have been away from the blogging world due to some unforeseen health issues. I have posted a brief summary and update at the end of this blog if you are interested. As stated in my last post, I lost a little bit of my mojo in the stitching realm. I could not focus on any of my projects. I decided to focus on the Mexican Schoolgirl Practice Sampler c1830 by Samplers Remembered . This one had some bright colors and different motifs which at least made me feel like I was making some progress. Worked on 40-ct Porcelain Lakeside Linen using DMC and the recommended Waterlilies. After this was completed I decided to start Sarah Elizabeth Brooke’s 1842 by The Scarlet House . This was a very fun stitch and kept me occupied during my recovery from surgery. I stitched the grassy area at the bottom of the sampler us
