Hmmm, honestly. It is definitely the heart that goes into my mom's Christmas gifts. I've never seen Christmas done the way it is at my house. Yes each year we get new socks that MUST be worn in order to open gifts. That is fun, but what really gets me at Christmas is the preparation and thought that goes into who brings on the most heartfelt tears first. Each year my mom always has a special theme for Christmas. About family memories, and making the most of the things we have experienced, and ultimately BECOMING like Christ. That is my momma's motto and always has been. BECOME. Our Chritmas includes a traditional video with music that meant a lot to us that particular year and pair it with pictures that bring back fond memories. Last year, my mom also wrote a beautiful letter to all of us and paired it with a signed picture by Greg Olson that shows Christ with a little girl and a butterfly, it represented a lot of things, but especially hope. It reminded us of the faith building experiences we had faced. Among other things, Three of us girls had miscarriages that year, and she was reminding us that our sweet babies are in Heaven, and to keep enduring so we can be with them again. A previous year My mom themed Christmas with the 12 gifts from the movie "The Ultimate Gift". The gift of laughter, the gift of gratitude, the gift of a day, the gift of love, the gift of work, the gift of family... On top of this my mom always adds pictures and stories of our ancestors to a beautiful geneology book she has put together for us. EVERY YEAR, for years she has done this for us. She pays attention to all of the quiet moments that we all experience throughout the year and ties them into one special day that is Christmas. She sang us about 7-8 different goodnight songs growing up, and one year she gave us a CD with all those songs, and how they came about, and why they meant enough to her to become our goodnight songs. Gosh, I wish I could really explain it. All of us kids make an effort to do something really thoughtful too for our parents, but man, we just never can top the feeling that our mom brings on Christmas day. Love is felt on Christmas day, in a way that just can't quite be felt any other day of the year, and that is my favorite Christmas Tradition.
My favorite tradition me and Tyler started last year is that we open our one gift on Christmas eve which of course is footed pajamas and we put them on and then we watch The Santa Claus. It's not much but it's fun.
Every year my boys and I take a night and drive around to see all the beautiful lights that people put on their houses for us to enjoy. We tae turns saying OHOHOHOH and AHAHAHAH. Tonight was that night, and I am so greatful we take the time to do this. Each year we have such good talk's about the beauty ad blessing's this season holds!!
We have Christmas Eve dinner with one of our neighbors in Ogden. We do a program for her and then we open one gift. It is always a game, then we play it. I love Christmas Eve because of it's simplicity and quality time with my family.
As my kids have grown and I realize that time is so short with them I think the moments I will cherish the most is the times we spend together and relaxed. On Christmas eve we read the nativity story from Luke, then watch the nativity movie put out by the church a few years ago followed with its a wonderful life and of course lots if food. Tonya
