They jump from tree to tree and they and their not so close cousins are residents of Durrell. The morning stillness, as we lay in our beds this morning in the Les Noyers hostel, is broken by the intermittent howls of sundry apes, monkeys and unnamed simians. For more than a decade Brigham and I have spoken of someday going to Jersey (no not that one, but the real one) to see and experience the world famous, amongst the zoo set, Durrell Zoo.
Having read many of Gerald Durrell's books on his animal collection experiences and conservation efforts, it was a matter of whether some day would come. It did. We flew over from London, took the bus into town and back out again to Durrell. Who would have thought you'd build an area with no shoulders to the roads, no sidewalks, and no alternate paths. It brought memories back of Cyprus and Brigham's companion and he being hit by a car as they walked along similarly constructed roads - must be a island thing, or a English derivative - fortunately we made it back and forth to the pub safely.
wearing the vest on the way back - smart move.
Zoo post yet to come
