RTT: We're Pilgrims In An Unholy Land*

We've got a new computer in the house and it's a PC. Our beloved octogenarian of an iMac got to the point where it was too painful to use for any length of time. On Christmas Day Supreme Leader's sisters brought over a new computer for us which was super wonderful of them. It's got all these extra buttons on the mouse though and I can't drag things anywhere. Still, it's pretty, fast and the bruises on my forehead from beating it agaist the desk are fading.

randomtuesday

Random Tuesday, grab the button and vent. It's like cleansing but without all the gross stuff.

Wife: Are you shaking your head at me?
Me: No, I'm looking back and forth quickly.

For all those who delight in the heavenly cured porcine wonder that is bacon.

I've already for citizenship.

Most of the Christmas toys were taken upstairs yesterday where Connor promptly arrayed them into a vast army. The good guys are American and he's fighting the Revolutionary War. I tried to explain that we were kinda' on the other side in that one, but like most things I say, he just ignored me.

Something I never expected to be saying over Christmas: Put down the dead monkey and come here.

Something I never expected to hear from my six year old: You're not here for the sweets, honey, you've got a job to do.

Saw two movies over the holiday, Julie & Julia and Inglorious Bastards. Julie and Julia was pretty good, though I didn't think Julie and her husband Eric's fight was walk out worthy. Laughed my ass off when he told her something he did better not end up in her blog. Inglorious Bastards was good, but not for the faint of heart. I love that Quentin Tarantino will kill anyone in his films at anytime. I wish I had that power.

Was that out loud?

Oops.

Head over to Keely's, clean yourself out.

*Name the movie quote and win a warm little piece of my cold black heart.

  1. Indiana Jones and the last crusade. And I want chocolates for being the first to name it.
    All the best for 2010.

  2. I have no idea who said that, but I like it. And the bacon flag is making my mouth water. Can I sign up?

  3. What's the national anthem of the that Republic? And what do you call the leader?

  4. Checked out the Republic of Bacons website. Looks like if you're from France you have automatic duel citizenship. Makes sense. Though, no word on Canadians.

  5. just watched inglorious last night...not bad, but you got it right, not for the faint of heart...

put down the dead monkey? there has got to be a story in there somewhere...

  6. You should really keep a little book full of the things your kids say...oh wait, I forgot you blog them.

Yea for a new computer. Does it have that awesome New smell like cars do?

  7. Loved both those movies, Tarrantino's best since Pulp Fiction IMHO! Did you wonder why they spelled bastards as "basterds"?? I've just got to google that and see what that's all about!

  8. Actually, the line is "My son, we're pilgrims in an unholy land" and it's spoken by Dr. Henry Jones, Sr in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Did you think I wouldn't know that? Come on, I call my kid "Indy." Challenge me! :)
Please tell me why you would say "Put down the dead monkey and come here." There MUST be a great story there.
Inglorious Basterds was....different. Definitely not for the faint of heart (ie: me). There were plenty of funny bits though and I did like that. Living in Germany, I *knew* the minute the guy gave himself away in the bar. Before anyone said anything, I looked at Mr. HH and said "he did the numbers wrong." Mr. HH looked at me like I was nuts, but moments later he got a big old "HA!" in the face. Because I'm humble like that.

  9. Inglourious Basterds was great - possibly Tarantino's best. I'm glad I got to see it in the theatre.

  10. John and I saw Avatar. Incredible!

Dani and I saw It's Complicated. Laugh Out Loud funny!

someone beat me to the answer (ok, I peeked and saw it and realized where the quote came from)

Inglorious Basterds is on our list, as is Julie and Julia.

  11. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I didn't look at any of the comments, but wanted to say, INDIANA JONES!!! And I often imagine how Sean Connery would speak my name...Jeshika. So sexy.

  12. Bacon has been one of the casualties of marrying my Jewish man. Why can't they make a pig kosher with a special circumcision?

I want to hear the rest of the dead monkey story.

  13. Put down the dead monkey?? I'm sure there's a story behind this. Do tell!

  14. I love bacon but I share that love with all pork fat.

  18. mmmm bacon, I do miss bacon.......why couldn't bacon be a part of a vegetarian diet???WHY?WHY?

  19. Inglorious Basterds was good, but not as good as Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown, despite what my oldest son said. I was frothing at the mouth at the end of Julie and Julia - one lousy article in the newspaper and she had publishers and literary agents knocking down her door? Biotch couldn't even poach an egg.

  20. i (along with most of your loyal readers) need the dead monkey story

  21. I saw It's Complicated - it was funny, but the whole time I kept thinking, "Since when is Alec Baldwin old?" He was hilarious, though. He's has excellent timing.

    Great random!

  22. I saw the Julia movie and was doing other things and thought I must have missed a key moment in the argument she had with her husband, like the kind where she yells out something about his best friend and her....cause why would he just walk out over that bit they had?? Wimps.

My son has said many times "Don't blog that!!" and I especially hear this one a lot: "No, you can't take pictures for your stupid blog!!!"

Bacon is gross. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you.

  23. I guess I'm in heaven... of all things a republic of bacon.

I guess our iMac is getting to that point. Now if only I could afford to buy a new one. I feel for you.

  24. Love that you felt the need to correct the spelling on Inglourious Basterds.

  25. BACON!!!

    nom-nom-nom-nom

    Congrats on the new PC.

And Basterds was pretty sweet, but I haven't seen J & J yet.

  26. Love Julie and Julia. Wish that scene could have been better played too. Mr. K laughed when the husband said that about not being in the blog. My mother in law didn't get that. LOL

We went to the movies (had passes, SCORE) and saw Avatar. Now that is a movie worth seeing in the theater.

  27. Really? Quentin does that?

    Call me Braja Tarantino, then.....

  28. inglorious bastards disappointed me.

  29. I liked Inglorious Basterds too, was the first flick I've actually thought was worth watching in awhile.

Why is your house stocked with dead monkeys?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love it when you go all girlie and admit to seeing chick flicks like Julie & Julia. But then you go and kill a monkey.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Looking back and forth quickly? That's a good one! I saw Inglorious Basterds the other night. It was pretty good, but I don't think I'll watch it again. Still haven't seen J&J.

  32. I LOVED Julia and Julie - and frankly, now I smell bacon.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'd say that line is an automatic qualifier for precociousness!

  34. I need to fly the Jolly Bacon at my house. Maybe then I will get some more often. Bacon that is.

  35. There was some chocolate covered bacon being passed around this holiday. I never thought I'd look at either bacon OR chocolate and say; "that's just plain wrong".

    ReplyDelete
  36. I saw something on-line before the Christmas craziness about a Bacon of the Month club! I thought of you. Wait - I didn't see that here, did I? I can't remember anything.

    Happy New Year!

  37. You've gone over to the dark side - Return to the apple!

Liked julie and julia - though the movie was unjust to julie... in that respect the book was better, but enjoyed Streep as Julia.

    Happy New Year!

    Now about that monkey?...

  38. I saw Inglorious Bastards, some scenes I closed my eyes. loved the movie! My husband said afterwards the name made him happy. He is like a 6 year old repeating a word for effect.

    Happy New Year!!

  39. Princess Nagger could be a leader in the Republic of Bacon - I denied her request for 10 pieces of bacon for breakfast this morning. I know, I'm a mean mom. ;)

    Dead monkey? Spill it! ;)

I want to see both those movies, too. Thanks for the warning on the Basterds movie - I'll be sure not to be faint of heart. ;)

    Happy New Year, Captain! :)
