Technique Tuesday Challenge

While I was blog hopping (one of my favorite things to do...smile).  I came across a beautifully done card that was made using the Dahlia fold. I found the card at Kim's blog    http://joyfulcreationswithkim.blogspot.com

the card she made can be found at the link below.
http://joyfulcreationswithkim.blogspot.com/2013/05/a-casual-red-white-and-blue-dahlia.html

I have made a card before using that fold but it's been a long time. I needed a refresher with the technique.  I clicked on the l link that Kim provided and found a blog that is new to me...Technique Tuesday.  So I decided to watch the video, which had great instructions, and made this card which I am entering in the challenge here.

Hopefully, I have followed all the instructions correctly.

Thank you for visiting my blog..

Twisted Sister "Humor" Challenge

I made this card for the Twisted Sisters Challenge at Split Coast Stampers.  TSC0524,  Sylvia challenged us to make a card with a humor theme.  I'm not good at making "funny" cards, so this is all I could come up with at the moment.
My image was stamped with an unknown stamp that was borrowed.  I stamped this stamp many times because it is a favorite of mine.  Hubby, aka, Jim, colored the image for me with copics.
T5, E43, E37, BG78, T2, R14, C0, B95, E25, RV63, W3, Y28, C000, C3, E34

Inside of the card reads:
The most remarkable thing about my mother is that...
for 30 years she served Nothing but left overs.
The original meal has never been found.
~Calvin Trillin

I posted this card at Split coast, and as I said there, This card reminds me of my Mother-in-law.
What a fabulous cook she was.  She knew how to cook, and how to use left overs.  Very creative
with her cooking.  Her meals always tasted like they were from a fine restaurant.

One of my mother-in-law's favorite hints was to take her left over vegetables, etc, and put them in a freezer container, in her freezer and keep adding to it.  After the container would be full, she would take it out of her freezer and put it in a big pot, and add some more broth, and make her famous Vegetable soup.  Of course, it would always taste different, but it would always be good.

One day, I read to my Mother-in-law an article from a woman's magazine how another lady also did the same thing.  However, that lady sent the tip to the magazine and received, I think, $100 for the idea...or maybe $50...but the point was she managed to get paid for that same exact hint, but she took the time to write it down and send it to the magazine.  After that, we called it my mother-in-law's $100.00 soup recipe,  (well, it could have been....LOL)

Thank you for stopping by my blog today.
Hope you have a great weekend.

Jill

Sugar Nellie card...Hope

I made this card for the Queen for a day Challenge at Split Coast Stampers....QFTD166,   I had such a great time last week with the Queen for a day Challenge so this week I wanted to make sure that I made a card for the new Queen.  This week's queen is Emily, who has a fabulous gallery.  This is the card of Emily's that I chose to case...http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/2020859?&cat=500&ppuser=177892

I used a different image...my image is a Sugar Nellie, digi, Hope.  It was colored with copics, but my husband...E000, RV0000, E00, E01, RV000, E0000, Y000, E33, R02, Co, B000, BG10, C3.

My background was made using a cuttlebug embossing folder, Stylized flowers.  I inked it up with Baja Breeze ink.  added dimensionals and a ribbon.

Dreamweaver Stencils Challenge for May

I made the above gift book for my granddaughter as part of her graduation present.  She seldom looks at my blog, so I feel fairly safe in posting it. (I think my blog is too boring for her...smile)
This "Tiny" gift book is still a work in progress.  I still need to add photos and journaling in the inside pages.  I usually make 12 x 12 scrapbooks or 11 by 8 1/2.  This one is 6 x 6.

I paper pieced the butterfly on my front cover.  I added dimensions to pop it up off the page.  My paper is from Stampin' Up.  I used a micron pen to trace around the stencils on the Shrink it.  I then colored the images with copics, and cut them out.  Shrink it is something I really enjoy doing.  I think I'm in my second childhood...smile
In the above pic you can see the stencils I used for my "Tiny Treasures"  I used the butterfly, umbrella, and silhouette stencil for my charm embellishments which I will put in the inside of my book.  I enjoyed doing this so much that I am going to looking at the stencils differently.  I want to buy stencils that I think will work well with this technique.  I also paste embossed my "celebrate" title with white embossing paste.  I then sponged over it with Tim Holtz distress inks...the embossing paste works as a resist.  So I just used a tissue to wipe off the extra  paste.

I'm entering this in the May Dreamweaver Challenge...
http://dreamweaverstencils.blogspot.com/

For the month of May the theme is "Tiny Treats"  Party favors, Wedding favors, end of the school treats, Teacher appreciation gifts, baby shower favors, small tokens of appreciation.

There is still a few days open for the challenge, and someone who enters the challenge will win a free stencil.  I have been fortunate to win a few times this past year, and the umbrella, and celebrate stencils  were two of the stencils that I won in challenge.

Thank you for visiting my blog today.
Hope you have a great week end...
Blessings,
Jill

Beautiful card, and a Honor that I received!

Yes, I received yet another Beautiful card in the mail...This one really sparkles with all the beautiful glitter, etc on it...My photography does not do this card justice.  Thank you so much Jan.
Jan's blog with all of her amazing work can be found here...http://cardsbyjankeen.blogspot.com/

I also received a wonderful honor...I can't tell you how surprised  I was when I logged into Split Coast Stampers forum and found out that they named me "Queen for a Day" this week.  I was glad that I was sitting down when I read that.  My heart was literately beating a mile a minute.

I told my hubby that I was made "Queen"  He asked me where my crown was...
I reminded him that at one time I had a tiara.  Does that count?

And boy am I ever dating myself.  Not only with wearing a tiara to my high school prom.
but wearing a net dress with plastic shoes.  If I look a bit stiff in the photo below...
It's because the net dress scratched and itched so bad at the seams...I also had a very
difficult time walking in those plastic shoes which cut into my feet and hurt so much...

So now I have given you an amazing card to look at...(Not made by me)

and your laugh for the day...
Thank you for visiting my blog.

Jill

Beautiful day

It was a beautiful day here...and we took  advantage of it by taking in the beautiful sights at Longwood Gardens...Here are just a few of the pics I took...
The above picture was my favorite pic of the day...The fountains are so beautiful and I just like how the blues and greens just pop out in this pic.  To the right of the pic is my daughter taking in the beautiful sight...
This is a picture of the pond located near the fountains...
My daughter standing in the tulip gardens...Just about every color of tulip was there...some I have never seen before.

It was a perfect day to visit the gardens.  The weather was just right...not too hot...not too cool.  and the beautiful spring flowers in bloom.  The tulips, the dogwood trees, etc.   and just spending the day with our daughter is a treat.  She's so busy with her job that days like this with her are rare.  We really enjoyed our time together.

Hope everyone had a great weekend too.

Thanks for visiting my blog today...

I received lots of nice surprises this week...

This is a card that My Thursday night crafting buddy, Kathi, gave me tonight...Isn't it adorable?
I love it!  It was made with mostly Stampin' Up supplies...

And this is the card that Cherie gave me tonight at Craft night.  I think they both know that my favorite color is PINK!

Kathi baked some Home made cupcakes for me...I blew out the candle, I will let you know later
If my wish comes true... (this was delicious!)
Cherie and Kathi, really spoiled me by giving me this craft bag with all of the above goodies in it...
This will keep me crafting for a while.  They had glue, paper, dimensionals, rubber stamps, flower soft, prima flowers, brads, buttons,
And I found this package in my mailbox, sent to me by my sister in law...
And these goodies were inside.

As you can see I had a very special week...

Hope everyone reading this did too...

Thank you for visiting my blog.
Blessings,
Jill
