NEC's PC Engine CD-ROM

Jaws dropped when NEC released its CD-ROM --CD-ROM^2 to be precise-- expansion for the already impressive PC Engine, and you can finally see what the fuss was all about with the help of this PC Engine CD-ROM eBay auction. The CD-drive/expansion on offer has been checked and is working; it comes complete in its original box.

PC Engine CD-ROM

The PC Engine CD-ROM, that is the CD-ROM^2 which could only mean the CD-ROM-ROM, sounded magical back in 1988. It would allow an already powerful but consumer-grade console to play games off CDs! It would also prove to be incredibly difficult and expensive to get a hold of in Europe during that time, and that's why I just can't help but appreciate such auctions as this one for a working PC Engine CD-ROM on eBay.

Devil's Crush (Turbo Grafx 16)

A dark and beautiful take on pinball, and a game I used to consider the Turbo Grafx 16's killer app back in the day, Devil's Crush remains a fantastically enjoyable experience and a title every NEC collector should own. Oh, and you can bid on a complete, working copy of it via this Devil's Crush (TG16) eBay auction.

Seller ships to many places worldwide.

PC Engine SuperGrafx

The SuperGrafx by NEC was released exclusively in Japan back in 1989, and was an interesting and substantial upgrade of the original PC Engine, that managed to remain compatible with both the hardware and the software released for its predecessor. Sadly, only seven games were released exclusively for it as the console really didn't do that well. It's thus rather rare and definitely collectible.

Interested? Good! Here's a fully working PC Engine SuperGrafx auction on eBay. The console seems to be in fine condition and comes with controller, AV cable, and power supply.

Seller ships only within Europe.

PC Engine Core Grafx

The elegant, powerful and home of some of the best arcade ports ever PC Engine, a for the most part 16-bit console by NEC that did very well in Japan, is a wonderful machine to collect for and play games on. It also happens to be one you can grab via this PC Engine Core Grafx eBay auction. The console comes compete in its box with controller, manual and everything.

Parasol Stars (PC Engine)

Being a mighty fine arcade port of an excellent platformer and a rather rare PC Engine game, Taito's lovely Parasol Stars is a HuCard absolutely worth owning. This Parasol Stars (PC Engine) eBay auction then is an appropriately fine chance of grabbing said game complete in its jewel case for the Japanese version of the console.

Seller ships to the Americas, Asia, Europe and Australia.

TurboDuo & 6 Games

The TurboDuo, the American version of the PC Engine Duo, was released by NEC and Hudson Soft in 1991 and was a rather sleek combination of the TurboGrafx-16 and its CD add-on in a single unit. Despite being able to play both HuCards and CDs the console --probably due to its hefty price-tag-- didn't do particularly well and is nowadays quite the rarity.

Now, provided you know how to fix its CD-drive (I've been told this isn't too difficult to do) this Turbo Duo eBay auction, might just be the thing for you. The console comes complete in its box and with six games including Splatterhouse, Bonk's Adventure and Bloody Wolf.

NEC PC Engine SuperGrafx

The rare and wonderful successor to the PC Engine, the 16-bit powerhouse that is the NEC PC Engine SuperGrafx may have failed to dominate console gaming, but it did get a select few excellent  games released for it while retaining full backward compatibility with the PC Engine and even its CD add-on. Oh, and the SuperGrafx was exclusively released in Japan.

To own one, you could try your luck and bid on this PC Engine SuperGrafx eBay auction. The console comes in its original box with power supply and controller and five obviously rare games: 1941: Counter Attack, Aldynes, Battle Ace, Daimakaimura (Ghouls 'n Ghosts) and Madō King Granzort.

Seller ships only within the UK, but one can never know what asking really nicely can accomplish.

Boxed PC Engine Set

The PC Engine by NEC is a lovable console sporting some impressive arcade conversions, while its CD expansion was quite frankly ground-breaking. It will allow you to grab one boxed PC Engine, one boxed CD-ROM2 unit, one boxed CD-ROM Interface and two games on HuCard in one cunning move.

Boxed and working NEC PC-FX

Released in 1994 exclusively in Japan, the NEC PC-FX was a lovely CD-based console that looked like a computer and did many thing well, but failed to do 3D graphics properly. It is no surprise then that it never set the world on fire and got less than 100 games published for it. Then again if sleek 2D graphics, true colour, 2D effects and FMV video are your thing, you'll love it.

Handily, you can grab a sensibly priced NEC PC-FX console off of eBay. It's fully working and comes in its original box complete with poly inserts and two controllers. Seller ships worldwide with odd exception of Russia and Italy.

TurboGrafx-16 & CD & Games

The US version of the PC Engine, the not quite brilliantly named TurboGrafx-16, was the same excellent arcade playing machine its Japanese counterpart was, only bigger and black. Appropriately it also got its CD expansion too, the then innovative TurboGrafx-CD, and you can grab the complete set of NEC's console via this TurboGrafx-16 & CD auction.

You'll be getting the console and its CD unit, all the required cables, 2 joypads, a power supply, a carry case, a controller extension cable and three games: Keith Courage and Blazing Angels on HuCards, Ys III: Wanderers from Ys on CD. Seller ships only within the US.

Boxed NEC PC-FX

NEC's PC-FX is a 32-bit, CD-based console that was released exclusively in Japan back in 1994. Despite being a 2D powerhouse, it was quite expensive and lacked out-of-the-box 3D acceleration; it thusly never really sold that well. The machine only got 62 games released for it and, to this day, remains the only console to look like a (beautiful) PC. Oh, and you can always grab this brilliantly preserved, complete and boxed NEC PC-FX via eBay. Seller ships worldwide.

PC-Engine Shuttle

NEC was never afraid to come up with strange console designs and the spaceship-like Shuttle version of its successful PC-Engine is definitely, well, weird. It was also a cheaper version of the original PC-Engine that was fully compatible with it and wisely came with a redesigned controller too. You can buy a working one via this PC-Engine Shuttle eBay auction. Seller ships worldwide.

NEC TurboGrafx-CD System & Games

If you live in the US and care for retro consoles, well, you should definitely have a look at this TurboGrafx-CD auction. The seller had bundled the excellent TurboGrafx-16 console with its relatively rare CD add-on and has even thrown in one joypad, two joysticks, a multitap, the AC adapter, the system CD Hu-card and seven games. Said games include Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, Ys Book I & II, Lords of the Rising Sun and Dungeon Explorer.

NEC PC-FX

The 1998 NEC PC-FX was the catastrophically delayed successor to the PC Engine, that was supposed to be a 3D powerhouse (as a prototype), but ended up being one of the most powerful 2D consoles ever instead. It was a console that was geared towards FMV games and Japanese adventures, what with its built-in CD and all, and a console that never really stood a chance. It did still manage to get a few dozen games released for it though (some of them good too) and, well, it's definitely worth owning, if not for anything else, for its unique looks.

To grab a PC-FX for a truly modest price, do follow this NEC PC-FX link. You'll be getting the console, a controller, the AC adaptor and an AV cable. Seller ships worldwide.

PC Engine CoreGrafx

The PC Engine might have typically been an 8-bit console, but, in reality, it was on par with the best the 16-bit era had to offer and its excellent arcade ports are all the proof you'll ever need. The 1989 PC Engine CoreGrafx is the very same essentially 16-bit console, only re-released in a shiny new case and with a modified controller. Oh, and you can buy one via this PC Engine CoreFX auction. Seller ships worldwide. The console seems to be in pretty great shape too.

A lovely NEC PC Engine GT

The PC Engine GT was the only handheld I -wisely- felt could outdo the Lynx, though I always knew it couldn't be purchased. Not during my teenage years at least, though I can happily still tempt myself with such auctions as this NEC PC Engine GT one. Besides the excellent HuCard playing colour handheld -it was, let me remind everyone, fully compatible with the PC Engine- you'll also be getting the rather rare TV tuner and two games (Space Harrier, Kato Chan & Ken Chan). Seller ships worldwide.

The Complete NEC Turbo Duo Collection

10,000$ is a lot of money, but -frankly- if I had it I might just spend it to grab this pretty amazing NEC Turbo Duo collection. Then again, I don't believe I'd find the room necessary to store the stuff, so I guess only the rich in money and space should apply for one mint, boxed Turbo Duo System, three complete and excellently  preserved unboxed ones, both Diving Board and Arcade cards, 129 US games and an almost complete import library. That's a lot of HuCards and Super-CDs you know. Seller ships only within the US.

Among the dozens of included games you'll find such gems and rarities as R-Type, Turrican, Alien Crush, Bomberman, Bonk's Adventure, SimEarth, Loom, Y's III, Last Alert, Garou Densetsou Special, Might and Magic III and Aero Blasters.
