From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author, Jennifer L. Armentrout writing as J.Lynn, comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page…
Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.
She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.
Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the past sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.
My Opinion
Fire in You is the sixth book in the Wait for You series. You can read it by itself but I recommend you reading it in order. The other couples and how everyone is interconnected make more sense when read together. Both of these characters are introduced to us in previous books as secondary characters. Their moment to shine is this book, and man are both of them bright.
Jillian comes from a family who’s business is MMA fighting. Her daddy is a famous trainer, he has produced a bunch of MMA stars. One such star is Brock, who her daddy has been training since he was a young teen. Jillian use to be his shadow, loving him since almost the being. Brock did not allow his feelings for Jillian to develop into more than a brotherly love when they were younger mainly out of respect for her father. They have been separated for six years, and in that separation Jillian has grown into an amazing woman. A separation brought on by a tragic accident that wedge a Grand Canyon size gap between the two.
The event that occurred six years ago changed Jillian both physically and mentally. While the physical scars are visible, the mental ones are harder to overcome. The fact that Jillian does, shows how strong she is. She realizes that she needs to move on, that she needs to live more than merely existing. She is just beginning to take those steps when Brock comes back into her life.
Brock knows he has made mistakes when it comes to Jillian. He thought he was protecting her, and respecting her father. The reality is he was hurting her more than any other. He tries to move on to someone else. He realizes that she is not the one, the one that gets him. There is only one that ever has- Jillian. He keeps an eye on her from afar, trying to give her the space that she demands. It is hard, it feels like a piece of himself is taken. Then he realizes that a piece has, the best piece. How to prove that he is worthy?
Fire In You shows the strength of a woman, and the amazing love of a man. It shows how the past can remain the past and how new beginning can occur. It brings all the feels and will make you want more. This is the last book in the series, and so the ending is bittersweet.
My Rating 5 out of 5 stars
