On Jan 1st, one of our pullets gave us a green egg! Since then, we've gotten 3 more green eggs from this sweet young chicken.
We've decided to name her Jade. What's unique to us about her is that she has light green ears. Most of our chickens have red or white ears.
In the below photo you can see her ears.
The green eggs are so pretty in a light brown dozen. I love them because they are different!
They still look exactly the same on the inside!

She is a beauty and her eggs are too. I was so hoping you were frying a green egg with ham though :) LOL
What a perfect name!
Jade, what an appropriate name for this special little hen and green ears to boot! My girls Pip and Pearly May give me green and sometimes shades of pink and blue eggs. Now I ask you, Is there anything better than a farm fresh egg? I think not. Happy New Year to you!
Jade is a pretty name for a pretty chicken. You maybe already know this but my daughter really liked aracaunas sorry about the spelling, but one thing she noticed was that the color of the legs would be the color of the eggs. I noticed in the picture that Jade's legs look pretty green. I have a old black hen and her legs are blue and she does lay blue eggs. She is some kind of cross breed. I don't know if it is a hard and fast rule but I noticed it looking at the pictures.
So don't put it down in the annuals of chicken history I could be terribly wrong but I thought it was interesting to see how green Jades legs are.
Neat eggs, and a very beautiful hen laying them!
I love reading about your chickens. Do the different colors change the taste in any way?
Amy - I have some ham in the fridge, too... lol
Terry - I had many names running thru my head for her, but Jade was the easiest to remember.
Julie - Your hens lay different colored eggs?? Wow, I thought they'd only lay one color, not blue, or green, or pink. Now that's something else to look forward to!!!! I've been eating medium-size farm fresh brown eggs for over a year, I hate eating those huge white things from the grocery store!
Kim - Now that you mention it, I do remember I read the color of the legs is important in determining the color of the eggs. I had forgotten about the legs. Interesting...
Sue - Thank you!
Nicolezmomma - nope, the eggs are all the same on the inside!

That's fascinating! My Georgiana has light green ears and was supposed to lay blue eggs, but instead lays pale cream-coloured eggs. I am jealous of your greenies. :) Jade is lovely!
Jade is a lovely name! Good choice.
is she an araucana cross?
that will answer the queston?
