I bought Sadie and Ella little looms to make hot pads. And I'm glad I did. Weaving is a precursor to sewing. It teaches elements like balance (not the standing on one foot kind, the design kind), pattern, order, and the up and down, in and out rhythm of hand sewing. Weaving is good for developing math skills, focus, dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. However, there are little cotton loops everywhere.
So my solution to the mess is to make them drawstring bags that they can hang on their hook rack, everything in one place and away from a curious little brother. I like how they turned out so much that I might make them for more of their little objects.
For this project you need:
1/3 yard of fabric
drawstring or shoelace
large eyelet kit (1/4" eyelets)
scrap of heavy interfacing or heavyweight fabric
Fold it in half, with wrong sides together, so that you have a rectangle that is 16" x 12". Sew 1/4" from edge along each long side.Turn inside out and iron the seam flat, pushing out the corners. Sew 3/8" from edge along long side, encasing raw edge of first seam.
Fold top edge down (toward inside) 1" and press. Fold down again 1" and press.Open out second fold. Either iron interfacing on either side of side seam or place scrap of fabric there, and trace inside of eyelet. Cut a small X inside traced circle. Place deep eyelet piece from right side to wrong side. Place shallow piece on top and set on disk with shallow side up. Using eyelet tool and a hammer, pound eyelets together. (You may want to check the instructions on the back to make sure your eyelets work the same way.)
This is how it should look from the front.
Fold top back down along pressed in line and sew 3/4" from top edge all the way around.
Optional: Turn inside out and measure up 1" from each bottom corner. Match seam to bottom fold to create a triangle in the corner. Sew a line perpendicular to seam.
Use a small safety pin to thread drawstring from one eyelet to the other.
Tie a knot in the end and you're done.
And that's my attempt at some order.

That's so cool! I had one of those looms....loved it....still can't sew though......LOL
so cool, but I have no idea what you just did!
I love draw string bags to keep things tidy! I make them out of felt and some clothes line for the drawstring (no eyelets). Yours is so much cuter. And yes, every little girl should have a pot holder loom!
Some random clicking landed me here and I'm so glad, that loom brings back memories of summer camp, shrinky dinks and the bedazzler. And that's a very clear and concise how-to, thanks!
