Jo Beaufoix wants to know about our first celebrity crush.
This was one of only two celebrity crushes in my life. In case you all haven't figured it out, I'm kind of a nerd, geek....card carrying member of the Awkward When Growing Up Society (AWGUS). Yup. Even ran for national office in AWGUS but was too shy (OK....I'm making things up, now).
In high school, that Oh, So Awkward Time That Should NOT Be Remembered, I had a crush on Barry Manilow. Yup. Oh, he could write the songs! During football season, on the way back from the games, we girls would sit on the back of the band bus (only the juniors and seniors could be on the co-ed bus....), and we would sing those songs. Talk about a man who could make a young heart dream.....
Thankfully, I am unable to locate any pictures of me during that time of my life! Use your imagination. (Long hair, pulled off my forehead, braces).
My other crush was also a male musician. Want to hazard a guess?
Now, check out the other brave Fun Monday participants.

The last time I was in Vegas, I seriously thought about going to see Barry Manilow - until I found out the tickets were so expensive. I loved him too - but not in the crushy sort of way.
I think He was adorable.
what a snazzy shirt he has on..can't say that I ever liked him though...but I do remember those clothes..satin shirts and polyester pants!!
There were a group of you sing, well at least your not alone on this crush.
Thanks for the smile and the memories.
One of my best friends who lived in my neighborhood growing up was a huge fan of Barry. She always had his music on when I went to her house. She must have known better than me since my crush fell off the face of the earth and Barry Manilow is still entertaining people!
I would hazard a guess for the other as David Cassidy - or Bobby Sherman -I am a terrible guesser. I think I gained respect for Manilow when I found out he wrote the Coca-Cola gingle. NLM
SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!! NOT BARRY!!!
OK, I like Copa Cabana. And he did go to Juliard.
BUT NOT BARRY!!!
Methinks I musta been a member of AWGUS too. Barry... Interesting crush to say the least. He DID write the songs, and Still Does! I really want to think that the other was somebody a little cooler than Barry like Neil Diamond maybe???
Have a Fun Monday!
I always pictured him when I read "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" to the kids. (Ichabod Crane)
okay!!.. who was the other one??
Hee hee, my mum used to like Barry Manilow. He had some really good songs I remember. We used to love 'Bermuda Triangle'. He's still going strong isn't he??
Thanks for playin and have a fabulous day. :D
Hmmm, I seem to have lost a 'g'.
That would be 'playing'. :D
There could be worse first crushes! Like me, you seem to not be persuaded by looks on who you like ;)
So, who was your second crush??? Throw us a bone! We need a hint!
OK, for people who want a bone on the 2nd crush: also a male singer. I probably would not rank him for his looks, though. His songs....they are what made the crush.
I would have loved to see a picture of you !!
I am a fan of Barry Manilow's songs but I don't see him as a heart throb!
I haven't a clue as to the other person wild guess for Bruce Springsteen someone else in my era who wrote brilliant songs was Neil Sedaka!
My guess is Kiss lead singer, Gene Simmons. Barry Manilow did have some nice tunes and a pleasant stage presence.
Oh man....me too. At the Copa...copa cabana....Now I'll be singing this all day!!! Gotta love it.
Thanks for the visit today.
I used to work with someone who was nuts on Barry Manilow!
Wow! Haven't thought about Barry for a while! Great post.
I have never seen a picture of Barry from when he was young. What a cutie!
Our Happy Happenings
I'll guess that your other crush was John Denver--which would be just fine in my boo. Now you have me trying to remember the Barry Manilow recording of a few years ago that was so mature and sexy--loved every song on the CD--white cover. . .
I had a girl I worked with in Alabama who loved and worshipped Barry Manilow. Personally, I don't see it. I love his voice, but I can't watch him. My guess for your second musician would be John Denver....
Very good choice!
Hey, I named my first dog Mandy, like the song. :)
