Of course, this Shai Hulud isn't the well-known American hardcore band, but a rap artist who's a part of coutoentrelesdents (literally "knife between the teeth") - an anarchist rap/punk collective from France who reads my blog and appreciates my work of deconstructing the cliches around BM and hardcore. It isn't the kind of music that's posted on my blog normally, and the message of their lyrics probably won't be accessible to those of you who don't speak French (which is probably the majority of my readers), but I still appreciate their efforts and think they should be mentioned on here. Their releases are freely available off their bandcamp page.

coutoentrelesdents - DIY anarcho-rap collective from France

XWolf Cell SolidX - "You Betta Axe Somebody" (2008)
Year: 2014
Genre: Hardcore Hip-Hop
Country: USA
- Intro - Wolf Cell In The Stairwell
- Apocalypse Now
- Vegan Holy War
- Corporate Wasteland
- You Betta Axe Somebody
- Pure Earth Gnostika
- Dedicated
- Warrior
- 2137 Gamma Quest Alpha
- Revenge
- Realm Of The Chaos Wizard
Here's another hardcore rap album which I wanted to post long time ago. Surely there's a lot of good anarchist hip-hop around, and I'm not planning to post all of it on here, but I'll make an exception for this one. I know virtually nothing about XWolf Cell SolidX (also written wolf-cell-solid) except they're a side project of a straight edge hip-hop group called superXcontra:
"From the underground into your scene and taking over - superXcontra is comin through to give a true alternative to all those hardcore and straight-edge kids that love hip-hop but are straight tired of the bling, cars, and hoes bullshit that has no true message or meaning - taking the old school hardcore ethic of two thirds message one third music down a totally different route, superXcontra have concocted a lethal dose of 100% SXE underground hip-hop"
I anyone's interested, here's the only superXcontra LP "Never Give In - Never Surrender" (2005), but I personally prefer the material which they've recorded later as wolf-cell-solid, since it's way better. While I'm neither vegan nor straight edge (but pretty close to), I respect them for making really combative and inspirational music. Plus it isn't like there's a lot of sXe hip-hop out there - I can think only of XReign of TerrorX and the likes, and some really mediocre local projects such as XJihadX, XGreenNemesisX, or XJeffry GoinesX (the latter isn't that bad, though) - so it'd be pretty safe to say that XWolf Cell SolidX are one of the best among their kind.
Moscow Death Bridage - "Hoods Up" (2014)
Year: 2014
Genre: Hardcore Hip-Hop
Country: Russia
- Ghettoblaster
- It's us
- Cut off your Tongue
- Viking's Life
- Prove Them Wrong
Since a lot of people are coming to my blog while searching for the newest release of MDB, I decided to post it here. Moreover, it's a rare occasion when they release something intended for the English-speaking audience (in fact, they rarely release anything new at all, but if they do, then it's most likely top notch stuff). This EP sounds harsher than everything they've recorded prior to this, and consists of 5 tracks of pure circle pit hip-hop: angry rapping over metal/punk samples&beats. Yes, I know they're just SHARP and not RASH or anything like that - but as I have already said, for me they're much more anarchist than many of self-proclaimed anarchist bands, and definitely one of the very best antifascist hip-hop acts out there.
By the way, they're finishing their European tour (mostly Germany, but they also have visited France, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia and Czech Republic), and if you want to see them live, you still have a chance (tomorrow they'll perform in Berlin, on 31st - in Hamburg).

Bud2aY - "United" (2012)

BUD2AY "United"
Year: 2012
Genre: Rapcore
Country: Poland
Track List:
- Czas Rebelii
- Shut Up
- Do Not Cross
- Wake Up
- Wariat
A little off topic here - political rapcore from Rawicz, Poland, made by readers of my blog. While their style is based on hip-hop, they draw influence from various genres, including industrial rock. Archive includes all booklet scans with the lyrics (some more lyrics from their earlier releases can be found here).
BTW, recently I was thinking about making another compilation of socially conscious hip-hop from ex-USSR, like this one - as there's a lot of new projects of such kind, but also a massive wave of "nazi rap" (which started to appear not only in ex-USSR, but also in Germany and Greece) which needs to be countered. However, I'm not sure if my readers would interested in this; second, gnwp.ru (a main source of such music) is currently down, so I have to postpone this project.

Moscow Death Brigade + other political/conscious hip-hop from Russia
Considering it wouldn't be easy for you to find any other political hip-hop acts from the former USSR (if you're interested in that kind of music), I decided to make a compilation of the best political rap stuff I've ever came across. It took a lot of time and efforts, but finally I made this sampler of 20 best socially conscious hip-hop projects from Russia (and some from Ukraine and Belarus):
- 2K
- (A)political Scum
- Blitzkrik
- Диета!
- Ебаланс / Ebalance
- entexnau
- Face Of Violence
- Красный Смех
- Культура Апокалипсиса / Apocalypse Culture
- La Vida Cuesta Libertades (ex-L.C.L.)
- L.C.L. (ft. Brule BLS, XJihadX, 2K)
- missis Garrison
- Мордой в пол!
- Московский Освободительный Оркестр (МАО) / Moscow Liberation Orchestra
- Moscow Death Brigade
- Nuclear Winter
- One Shoot
- Sheridan
- T.OST (feat. Slaughter 2017)
- x Jeffrey Goines x
Almost all of this stuff can be found on gnwp.ru in the "hip-hop & rap" section. It sould be noted that these rappers are very different in terms of ideology: there are anarcho-communists (L.C.L.), traditional marxists (Ebalance) and even anarcho-primitivists (Apocalypse Culture) and self-proclaimed "satanic hip-hop" (Entexnau)... or satirical projects (missis Garrison), and just people without any particular ideology, but still holding progressive views towards society (MDB, 2K, NW). The sound is very different from track to track as well; there's a lot of Necro-inspired hardcore hip-hop (MDB, FoV) and rapcore (Blitzkrik), but also some less aggressive stuff, and even female-fronted trip-hop (Sheridan). Hope you'll enjoy at least some of these projects.
Hip-hop is actually very good as a political genre, since it's very popular now, very lyrics-oriented, and relatively easy to make. You don't need to form a full band of 4-5 members to become a rapper, and you can achieve a fairly good quality of production even if you make your recordings at home. Of course, there's a lot of really amateur and poorly produced stuff... but it's D.I.Y., you know; and it's only the beginning. Only a few years ago there wasn't any openly leftist hip-hop in Russia at all, except for Blitzkrik and xEdge Jihadx (and they both were not very good). So it's good to see more and more people listening to not some gangsta shit about lots of money, whores, drugs and big cars, but to really conscious/revolutionary hip-hop.
And here are some photos:

In the world full of chaos, go ahead bravely,
There's no option except to stand up 'til the end,
Moscow Death Brigade fuels the flame in hearts"

Then, how about some political HIP-HOP?..
Yes, I make videos not only about RABM and blackened crust... Here's my video compilation of political hip-hop/rap from Russia (featuring Moscow Death Brigade, Missis Garrison, xEdge Jihadx, and Blitzkrik):
Don't know if you like such kind of music, but personally I like it. Especially Moscow Death Bridage - in my opinion, they're the best underground hip-hop project in Russia up to date:
MDC actually is a side project made by the members of a SHARP band Razos Rois. They don't identify themselves with any particular political ideology ("Politics are for the weak, own opinion is for the brave!", but for me they're more anarchist than many of self-proclaimed anarchist bands. And yes, I love how these guys are open about their 100% anti-fascist position.
ЗНАЙ СВОИ КОРНИ, СТОЙ ЗА НИХ, ЛОМАЙ СТЕРЕОТИПЫ!
KNOW YOUR ROOTS, STAND FOR THEM, BREAK THE STEREOTYPES!

The Dead Musician & Arcane XVII - split (2009)

THE DEAD MUSICIAN / ARCANE XVII "split"
Year: 2009
Genre: Black Metal (TDM) / Hip-Hop (Arcane XVII)
Country: France
Track List:
The Dead Musician
- Hate me, I'm so different
- Condemn me now
- Do you ask my cat if you can eat it?
- Your elite is nothing
- Diabolous life
- Le palais des sévices
- La souffrance
- Le vitriole
- Saturne
- (LES SANS NOMS): La boîte de kovak
There are many good anarcho-friendly black metal projects that come from France. I've already posted releases by Ravensdom, Chambre Froide, The Austrasian Goat, and I hope to post the debut release by Morgon in the near future. And right now, enjoy the latest release by The Dead Musician!
Although his early releases were a bit weak and sloppy recorded, I can't say this about the tracks on this split. The Dead Musician is continuing to play "free-style black metal", and nowadays his sound is very raw (in a good way) and powerful. Yes, it's highly influenced by old-school black/thrash metal, but it's highly innovative as well. And the lyrics prove that The Dead Musician isn't just another generic black metal project: their topics vary from explicit political protest ("Hate me, I'm so different") to animal liberation ("Do you ask my cat if you can eat it?") and the statements against pseudo-elitist black metal poser crap.
And when it comes to Arcane XVII's side, be prepared for a big surprise. First of all, it's hip-hop. Moreover, it's hip-hop of a very dark and gloomy kind, comparable to Necro or Immortal Technique. I don't know about what they're rapping (for me, French language always seemed to be ballbreakingly hard to learn), but looks like their lyrics are political.
Overall, this split is an unique release, and I highly recommend to check it out (if only you aren't a big hater of hip-hop and rap).
