Spring Wreath

Hey Quietfire Fans! For today's project I'm sharing with you my Spring Wreath. I combined a variety of dies which were all perfect for creating this wreath. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite beverage and learn how to recreate my Spring Wreath at home.

To start, you'll need the Create a Wreath Die. Choose one of the leaves as well as a piece of dark green paper. Die cut the leaf ten times out of the dark green paper.

Using the same leaf from the previous step, you'll also need a light green paper. Die cut the leaf ten times out of the light green paper.

From the Christmas Accents die, die cut the small flower five times out of a piece of pink patterned paper. Die cut the medium flower four times out of the same piece of pink patterned paper.

From the 4 Seasons Die, die cut the Spring word out of a piece of bright pink paper.

From the Butterfly Flourish die, die cut the small butterfly three times out of a piece of white cardstock. Trim the swirls off of each butterfly.

Adhere the leaves together as desired to create the wreath.

Adhere the Spring word to the middle of the wreath.

In the top left corner of the wreath, adhere two medium flowers and two small flowers. In the bottom right hand corner, adhere two medium flowers and three small flowers. Adhere the three butterflies as desired around the wreath.

Add white pearls to the middle of each flower.

To finish the wreath, create a little hanger at the top of the wreath using twine.

Here are a few closeup photos of the finished wreath.

Here is the finished Spring Wreath.

Autumn - 4 Seasons

Hello Quietfire fans!  It's Betsy here today sharing with you this lovely
autumn card using

This is such a lovely set of dies and the "Autumn" die is just perfect for this time of year!

Let me show you how I made my card!

I first started out with a piece of 140lb watercolor paper.  This paper was a sample set that had every kind of watercolor paper that this company makes. I lightly sprayed it with water.  Then I sprinkled on - very lightly - PaperArtsy Infusions in Olive Tree and Golden Sands.

These pigments are like ColorBurst pigments and are very strong.  I really wanted to retain the mottled look you get when you first sprinkle them on wet paper.  I allowed this to dry thoroughly.  Then I took my "Autumn" die and die cut the word.  I already had my paper chosen.

I love the effect I get with the pigments on this die cut.  Next I gathering all of my supplies
together that I would be using.

My paper comes from Kaisercraft "Fallen Leaves" collection and I really felt the color
palette was sophisticated and blended well with the calligraphy of the die cut.
My card base is made from Brutus Monroe "Martini" card stock - it's a lovely olive color.  I cut that
to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and scored and folded it in the middle.  My darker patterned paper
measures 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"I adhered that down first.  My next patterned paper measures
3 1/2" x 4 3/4".  Before adhering it to the base, I inked the edges with Antique Linen
Distress Ink.

This gives the edges just a bit of definition.  I also inked the little flag.  I adhered down
the patterned piece and the flag with the addition circle piece on it.

Before adding my
die cut "Autumn" to my card I cut it out 3 times out of a golden color card stock scrap.

I stacked these together and then adhered them to my project.  And that finished my card!
I decided against any embellishments...I liked the softness and elegance that it had.

I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial!  You can find these dies and more at:

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Autumn Notes

It is on my bucket list to see the Northeast portion of the United States in the fall - specifically Vermont and New York.  The Shenandoah Skyline Drive is gorgeous in Virginia but I want to see more red!  But I've been inspired by the changing colors to make another slimline card combining Autumn Notes by Quietfire Design word dies with the recent release from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

To make my slim line cards, I start with 8.5 x 11 white card stock.  The base layer is 3.5" x 8.25" and the card base is from the leftover.

The Autumn Notes were cut from thick card stock and covered with Modern Gilding Powder Copper Scroll.  I also used the Modern Gilding Powder Gothic Black on the elegant ornament die - looks so rich in real life to have that added weight to it.

On a sheet of watercolor paper, I used all the fall colors that the Color Bursts (remember those?) because I like the mottled look that happens.

I also lightly sponged the edges of the card so that the white card base could act as a matting.

Gilded Tulip Garden

Happy Monday! [...just in case you need to know the day of the week] To those essential workers who are still heading to work ~ THANK YOU! To those who are now home social distancing ~ THANK YOU! In the midst of all this change in the past weeks, I do find some comfort in my craft room, even if my creativity struggles to surface.

This week I played with the newest colours added to Quietfire Design’s Modern Gilding Powders line. The colours are gorgeous, soft and swoon worthy! I wanted to used them all, so decided to make a garden of flowers...in hopes of finding some spring vibes in our very, winter like weather!

I added some Distress Oxide inks to some watercolour paper, to create an illusion of grass, sky and sunshine. I chose watercolour paper so I could “pull” some colour from my Tombow markers in another step.

After my background was completed, I made a stencil from cardstock using the Elizabeth Craft Designs Butterflies and Star Sprays die, designed by Suzanne Cannon. I used a foam makeup sponge to tap some acrylic paint onto my background through the butterflies. Every garden needs butterflies!

Next to make some flowers! I very loosely drew tulips and cut them out out cardstock. Using an Emboss It Dabber from Ranger, I covered my tulips with embossing and poured my Gilding Powders over top! Guess what...even the worse drawn flowers will look amazing, so give it a try!

I cut out the word Spring from the 4 Seasons die and embossed with Dragon Berry Modern Gilding Powder, a favourite from the first release of colours.

With my flowers and quote all ready, I decided how I wanted my placement. With my Tombow markers, I drew stems for my tulips and used my water brush to “pull” the colour. This allows for more of a water colour effect and softer lines! I did the same for some grass and added a few pencil lines for depth.

In signing off today, I encourage you to play. This is not my favourite card I have ever created, it did however let me play with product that has been waiting for me, it took my mind away from the constant chatter of COVID 19 news and play lets your creativity grow...it’s part of the process.

Have a healthy week!

Summer Fun Party Time!

Hi there!  It's Suzanne here today with another of the Elizabeth Craft Designs Group Posts!  This theme is Summer Fun - and it just so happens, I have those words!  Make sure you pop over to their blog to see the other creations! https://blog.elizabethcraftdesigns.com/

I've created this sweet little bunting banner card to share with you today.  This would be an awesome birthday card!  Aren't these polka dots to die for?
Here is what you will need to make this card.

Elizabeth Craft Designs Supplies:

A Way With Words 4 Seasons  or ECD
A Way With Words Fun Play or ECD
A Way With Words Please Join Us Collection or ECD
Stitched Fishtail Banners
Thinking About Rio de Janeiro 6x6" Collection
Clear Double Sided Tape

Others:
Yarn or string
Tiny clothespins or clips
Cardstock which coordinates with the decorated paper: Dark and light turquoise, darker and light pink, pale blue
VersaMagic Turquoise Gem
Glue Dots https://amzn.to/2LICozz

Instructions:

  1. Form a 5 x 7" side-fold card base from pink cardstock.
  2. Die cut "Summer" and the largest Stitched Fishtail Banner from dark turquoise.
  3. Die cut "Fun" from pink polka dotted paper and one of the second largest Stitched Fishtail Banner dies from darker pink cardstock.
  4. Die cut coordinating polka dotted and plain banners from pink, blue and turquoise from the middle and second smallest Fishtail Banners as shown and adhere them together.  Trim them to approximately 2.5".
  5. Stamp "Party time!" about 2.5" from the bottom of the card front.
  6. Cut a piece of twine or string and tie a knot in one end.  Stretch it across the top of the card and add another knot so the string appears slightly flexed. Trim and tack in place. Tack each of the banners in place with a Glue Dot near the bottom so the tops of the banners can be lifted and clipped with clothespins or other clips.  Hold the clips in place with Glue Dots. Slip additional Glue Dots under the banners to secure them.
  7. Trim the larger pink banner to 4.5" and the large turquoise banner slightly longer and attach them together.  Attach "Summer" and "Fun" to them as shown with Glue Dots and then adhere the banner with words under the "Party time!" stamp as shown.
  8. Voila!  a bright and fun card!  Happy creating!

Autumn Is Lovely

Happy  2nd Day of Autumn!!!  It's Wanda with you today sharing an Autumn card.  Our temperatures here in Southern Iowa are even feeling fallish.  I'm so glad there are not supposed to be any "hot" days this week and hopefully they'll stay away but not become winter too quickly.

I cut a piece of Mixed Media Cardstock (Ranger Ink) to 5" square and worked up a Distress Oxide (Wild Honey, Picked Raspberry, Ripe Persimmon) background onto it.  Put inks on craft sheet, spray with water, press in paper, drip some water on paper while drying, lightly tap paper into left over ink to create droplets, dry adding more drips of water as you dry.

I pressed the paper in the ink for the large areas of color just wiggling the paper a little so the colors stayed in their areas.  For the droplets of color I turned the paper to add those over different areas.

After determining where I wanted the quote to go I cut a window in my background large enough for the quote to show through.

The quote I used is from the new Autumn Collection.  I stamped it onto a piece of Mixed Media Cardstock large enough to fit behind the oval.  I inked the stamp with both Oxide Ink colors for a nice blend.

On a scrap large enough to die cut the word, Autumn (Four Season Die Set), I worked up a background with Distress Oxide Ink (Vintage Photo, Tea Dye).  After drying I sponged Distress Ink Picked Raspberry to the center.

After die cutting the word and setting it on my background, I thought it wasn't dark enough.  I sponged Distress Ink Ground Espresso over the word.  You can't really tell the original colors but there is variation to the color that I really like.

The Crackle Background was stamped around the edges with Distress Oxide Ground Espresso.  Later I also inked the edges.

I die cut the leaves from Mixed Media Cardstock.

The leaves were colored with Distress Inks (Ranger Ink) by putting the ink on a craft sheet, spraying with water, and dipping the leaves into the ink.

Once dry, details were added to the leaves using Distress Ink (Ranger Ink) and Susan's Garden Tools and Leaf Pad (Elizabeth Craft Designs).

Ok, full disclosure :-)  When putting things together I got a little smudge of ink on the quote panel.  To hide that I spritzed with Distress Markers.  I think it looks great and I'm glad I needed to do something!!!

I hope you've enjoyed today's card!!!!

Hugs, Wanda
