Display

It's been a while since I updated my display. Before it looked like this:

Then I was prompted (forced) to rearrange the display by my cats breaking a pitcher from my other collection (Taste Setter):

I moved my cookbooks elsewhere and took down the green fabric background. I think it looks a bit tidier.

The Taste Setter collection is my personal white whale. It is impossible to find so if you ever see any I'm happy to reimburse you! (Email me)

Update

Just wanted to share an update of my collection. I'm limiting myself to only Daisy/Citrus Yellow, Aqua and Daisy/Citrus Orange and the special Green that they only made two pieces in.

If you want to see my whole kitchen check it out here.

Resistance is Futile

If you've followed my previous posts you know that I stick firmly to my self imposed rule of only collecting Aqua, Orange and Daisy/Citrus Yellow.

I broke my own rule.

How could I resist? It's the special grass green color that I've only seen two pieces in (The crazy quilt and this utility dish).

Here's out it looks with the rest of my collection, it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, just kind of blends in to the aqua.

(Sorry for the bad lighting. My overhead kitchen light is out)

I'm so glad they didn't make a whole collection in this color, otherwise I might be in trouble.

Bowls!

I managed to snag some bowls in the Daisy yellow. I bought these from a seller on etsy. I've only seen the 401 at flea markets and it's always in sad shape the the seller usually wants $10 for it and is unwilling to go lower.

I paid a little more than I would've liked for them but they are in great shape, they're the exact school bus yellow I love and my birthday is Tuesday. I've scored some pieces for one or two dollars so I figure it all evens out.

Displayed

Here's what my collection looked like in August:

Here it is today:

I didn't think it could get better than the aqua and orange combo but adding the school bus/daisy/citrus yellow really does it for me. I love it!

I've slowed down on collecting, I actually have the will to say no to pieces now. I'd like to cobble together a set of bowls with the two 403's I have (orange and yellow) and I don't think I can ever say no to a fridgie...oh and if I found large orange utility pan I certainly won't turn it down.

8x8

As I said before, I've been sprinkling some of the Daisy/Citrus yellow into my orange and aqua collection. I think those three colors look amazing together and the school bus yellow is much easier to come by than the aqua.

I picked up this 8x8 baker on eBay and I love the flared lip. Thanks to this picture on flickr I'm guessing that it's the Daisy Baking dish.

Can anyone tell me if I'm right? Is this the only line that has this flared lip? Did it ever have a lid?

Questions, questions.

Just when you think you're done, this sickness pulls you back in. I went to the Long Beach Flea Market this weekend and came home with some goodies.

I got all of this is for $20. I really like the way the school bus yellow looks with my orange and aqua. I already had the aqua square baker but for $5 I couldn't resist. It was pretty dirty with some caked on food but nothing that a toothpick and some Barkeeper's friends couldn't take care of.

Can anyone tell me what collection this particular shade of yellow belongs to? Is it Daisy?

Long Overdue Pyrex Trade Update

Back in May, I engaged in my first trade with Jenna at Jenna Designs (she's over on Pyrex Collective II).  After a few mishaps with shipping that I griped about here, it turned out to be very fun!  And to top it off, weeks after our trade, I opened my mailbox to discover that the lovely and talented Jenna had made and sent me this adorable clutch.  How cute is that?

What a great group of Pyrex folks!  More about the trade in my post here.

A Pyrex Pickle (to be)

Daisy 444

I've discovered that cinderella mixing bowls are perfect for soaking cukes on their way to becoming pickles.

Even better for holding rat's tail radish pods.

Early American 443

For those curious about the radish with an ugly name, but delicious taste, it's blogged here.

Happy weekend! - Chelsea

A Week of 444s

Daisy and Butterprint for $6.99 each and Pink Gooseberry for $5.99

I am swimming in cinderella mixing bowls.  It's gotten to the point where they're stacked two deep in the cupboards and are lining the basement shelves.  I can't even offload them onto my friends anymore (their Pyrex problem addiction clearly isn't as full blown as mine).  So I'm trying to be very picky now when I come across any while thrifting.  But seriously, how could I pass up butterprint and gooseberry?  I'll admit, I already have a daisy 444, but I love it so much that I figured it would become my trusty back-up (which is pretty much my rationale for everything, hence my overcrowded shelves).

Anyhow, the prices and condition were too good (and my addiction is too strong) - I couldn't leave them behind.

And so the cycle continues...<sigh>

Pyrex Price Gouging

Would you pay $50 for this???!?

I sure hope not!! But an unscrupulous (or uneducated) thrift store owner was banking on it. This is one of the gifts a friend gave me. I know for sure that she didn't pay $50 for it.

This brings my collection of divided dishes to three. Down from four, because today I gifted my barbed wire divided to a friend (who squealed and 'fake fainted' to the floor with delight! Admit it...how many of you have done the same ;) ) She had admired it out loud several times in the past couple of months. I knew from the moment I found it that it would be perfect for her, and planned to give it to her as soon as I found a divided that I'd want to keep for myself. I am quite happy with my trio.

And here's a coincidence...at the moment I found the Barbed Wire at Value Village, I got a call on my cell (I was still in Value Village!) from my other friend to tell me that she had scored some great Pyrex finds for me that day, including the Daisy divided casserole. She was calling me with an armload of Pyrex while I was standing there with an armload of Pyrex!

Winter warmer

How about a stack of cheerful bowls and a hot cup of tea to warm you up on a chilly February day?

I found the carafe for $1 and the smallest yellow bowl for $3 this week. It might not be the right bowl for the set, since it doesn't match the other one exactly. But it works for me!

Happy Colors, Happy Dance, a Lid Question!

Look what turned up at Goodwill this weekend and came home with me!

I'd say it's pink, but is there an official name for the color?  Against what I thought was a pink piece of fabric, it looks a little more orange-pink.  Anyway, I've wanted this particular color 2-quart round casserole for awhile.  I even bought what I thought was the lid for it months ago, because I thought sure as anything that when I eventually found the casserole, it probably wouldn't have a lid.  I was right about finding it lidless, but I think I may have been wrong about the type of lid.  This lid is marked 684-C A-1.

It fits, and it matches the style of the 8-oz mini casserole with lid, but after seeing a page today on Erin's blog from the Pyrex book she got for her birthday, I think there may have been a different lid that came with the casserole.

Like this one, maybe?  This was a random Pyrex lid my mom had.  There's a number on the rim, 624C B-33.

And I don't think I ever posted about last month's find, a yellow Daisy divided casserole.

Both of these pieces make me think warm and happy thoughts in the middle of this frosty winter.  Who's ready for a January thaw?

Pyrex Daisy/Sunflower

Erin posted about a Daisy/Sunflower piece earlier this week and it reminded me I had one to talk about as well. This one was for sale in my etsy shop. I had found it with the stand. I don't know if that originally came with it or not. It's a divided dish and I never used it...what do you cook in a divided dish? I'd really love to hear what you guys use it for, I'm stumped.

My Sister in Law saw it and asked if I'd sell it to her sans shipping because we live near each other. She said "I really love Pyrex and my mom has the sunflower set. I've adored it for my whole life!" I had no idea she was into Pyrex I can't wait to talk to her about this!

I will just give it to her, I can't see myself charging family for Pyrex!
