Today's Pokemon Card Review is of Flaaffy from the Steam Siege Pokemon Card set. Flaaffy is a stage 1, lightning type Pokemon card, with an HP of 90. It has a x2 weakness to fighting type Pokemon, a -20 resistance to metal type Pokemon, and a two colorless energy card retreat cost. Flaaffy does not have an Ability but it does have two moves. The first move that this card has is called Ram and for one colorless energy card this move does 20 damage. Flaaffy's second move is called Thunder Shock and for three energy cards, two colorless and one lightning, this move does 50 damage, plus if you get a heads when flipping a coin, the defending Pokemon is paralyzed.
Pokemon Card Strategy:
So as far as strategy goes, since Flaaffy is a Stage 1 Pokemon card, you'll first have to get Mareep into play (I reviewed Mareep from this set yesterday) and then evolve Mareep into Flaaffy. Flaaffy does have a Stage 2 evolution in Ampharos, which I'll be reviewing tomorrow, that you'll probably want to use with this Pokemon line but since I haven't reviewed that card yet, the strategy below will act like Flaaffy is the final evolution in this line. So if you read my review of Mareep, you'll know that I thought it was an average to slightly below average Basic Pokemon card. Really there were no negatives on the card, since it had a solid HP, low retreat cost, and two moves, but there really wasn't anything on the card that made you really want to use it. That same theory goes for this Flaaffy card, it is average overall, having a solid HP, lower retreat cost, and two moves, but using this card with Ampharos is just not a good idea. You don't want to put three energy cards on this card to do only 50 damage a turn, but, if you're playing this full line, you could easily start with Mareep in the active Pokemon spot and evolve in to the active Pokemon spot up to Ampharos.
Pokemon Card Rating:
I would give this card a 3 out of 5 rating. In my opinion this is an average Stage 1 Pokemon card from the Steam Siege set. Like Mareep from this set, this card is very average overall, it just doesn't have the "it" factor with it, meaning there really is no reason to play this card without Ampharos. Because of that, even though I gave both Mareep and Flaaffy 3 out of 5 ratings, I am giving these two cards combined a 2 out of 5 rating.
