My Aloha Friday question today is... If your life was a book what would the title be? Aloha Friday is a laid back, just for fun, meme created by Kailani at An Island Life . We all post a question and have fun going around answering each others. My answer: Once I wrote a story called "False Tragedy" and I think that I would often use that as the title of my life. I usually think I am going through the worst part of my life, no matter what is going on, no matter how minor it is, it feels like a tragedy at the time. But I am usually blowing it out of proportion. Answer the question for yourself in the comments and then ask a new one on your own blog! Have fun!

I was attempting to arrange my books yesterday. I was getting all of my young adult and juvenile literature together. What I noticed was the EXACT type of book I thought was good when I was kid. The cover would look something similar to this. A brightly colored border with that little triangle at the top. Maybe it was the apple at the top that signified this as a good book. Maybe the apple meant "Teacher Approved." What do you think of my childhood perception of a good book? Here are a few more: What covers were you drawn to as a kid? Do you remember?

This week’s question comes from Julie , who asks: While acknowledging that we can’t judge books by their covers, how much does the design of a book affect your reading enjoyment? Hardcover vs. softcover? Trade paperback vs. mass market paperback? Font? Illustrations? Etc.? I definitely judge a book by its cover. I mostly buy my books from the used market. More often from thrift stores than from actual book stores. Paperbacks generally run for 50 cents and are arranged in chaos. What are the factors in buying a book for 50 cents? Recognizable authors, catchy titles, and if when you pull the book out it catches your eye, well it is probably coming home with you. Does cover eat make me enjoy the story more? Generally not. If a book cover is plain or even garish it doesn't detract from the words on the page once I am reading it (though it may detract from me picking it up in the first place.) Well, unfortunately my UNbirthday will soon be drawing to close. I have really enjoyed celebrating with you all, especially Amy who definitely has the best taste when it comes to pretend presents. I am happy to report that I did get TWO pens in the mail. Cheryl Wyatt has the gracious honor of granting that wish. I might also mention that along with the pen she sent me a signed copy of A Soldier's Family (Love Inspired #438) . Which you may remember I won earlier this month. My daughter was also very excited about the pens. I gave one to her and she wrote Cheryl a "thank you" note with it. It was really just some scribbles on an apple shaped sticky note, but it was adorable. I am pretty sure Cheryl would appreciate it. I have not started reading the book yet (tell you more about why in a second.) Before Cheryl I had never heard of Love Inspired romance novels. It is only Monday and I am already ready for the weekend. I have been really tired lately. And quiet if you haven't noticed. My ex went out of town again so you probably won't be hearing much from me for a few more days. Anyone else wish it was the weekend? P.S. This is part of the reason why I dislike holidays.
