Preparing

Last weekend I had the kids here for a couple of days and we dyed some eggs to get ready for Easter.

3-30-10 040

Each got their own bowl of eggs and cups of dye.

3-30-10 046 Grace took a photo of the final product.

3-30-10 067 They really wanted to display them, so we piled the beautiful eggs in a basket to put on the table. I forgot to put them in the frig before I went to bed, so these eggs were decoration only…

Bradley watched all the fun, listening and learning for next year!

Eggs

A few weeks ago, on one of ny homemaking groups, my friend Rhonda posted a link to a blog tutorial for making these decoupaged eggs. Last weekend, while Greg watched "Transporter 3" (a huge dissapointment of a movie, btw), I got out the plastic Easter eggs and played in Modge Podge and torn up pages of an old hymnal. I used the scrappiest of my old plastic eggs, now they have a new/old look and will be a neat addition to the Easter/Springtime decorThis hymnal was, I think, scrounged from the leftovers of a huge auction many years ago. It is falling apart (beyond repair) and the pages are brown and aged - perfect for this project. Plus, I liked the idea of using a hymnal for something I will use for Easter decorations.
If you visit http://inspireco.blogspot.com/search?q=glittered+eggs for the tutorial, you'll see she used glitter, ribbons, and neat little trinkets to decorate her eggs. I didn't get so far as glitter - I had to clean up before bed so the cats didn't play in my project - and then I ended up liking these eggs plain. I like the glitter version, too, so you may see some of those in the future.

Touch of Spring

The lovely warm temps we're having right now inspired me to put together this little centerpiece for the dining room table. I like it the way it is, but will add some candles and perhaps use it for a tablescape.
The jars are all thrifted and I didn't pay over $1 for any of them. They're filled with jelly beans and Easter M&M's. I especially like the colors in the tall jar - those are SweetTart jelly beans. I haven't tasted them - we're not big jelly bean fans - but they're fun to decorate with. (Did you see they have bags full of just BLACK jelly beans? I'm going to get some and save them for Halloween. I do like black ones!) The sweet little bunny bud vase was also thrifted for less than $1. The bottom has "Avon" printed on it. I filled it with my favorite fresh daisies this morning. I suppose it'd be cute with a candle, too, and maybe that was it's intended use. A pair of them with candles would be pretty.
Tomorrow the weather will go back to end-of-winter/early-springtime temps in the 50's, and I think there may be rain. That's okay. After yesterday and today we know that Springtime is almost here. My jelly beans say so.

Easter Wishes

I haven't taken much time to blog lately - it's just been busy around here.
I will catch up this next week, but wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a Happy Easter and post some old Easter photos of us.
The first photo was taken in Henderson in Grandma's and Grandpa's driveway. It's Tonita, me, and Alan. I don't know why Arlan and Randy aren't in the photo, since I'm sure at least Arlan was born. I don't know the year, but Alan looks to be about 2 or 3, so it'd be 1966-67-ish.
The second photo was taken Easter Sunday 1973, just before we went to Sunday School, then to Grandma Adams's for our Sunday morning gathering with all the Aunts and cousins. We celebrated Easter with baskets of candy and inexpensive toys like buckets with shovels or plastic kites. (I never got a kite to fly until I was an adult and Greg taught me how.) Mom always filled our baskets with jelly beans, Peeps, marshmallow rabbits, and chocolate eggs. Oh, and that green plastic grass.
We always went to Sunday School, and once in awhile the entire family would attend church services. After SS, we'd stop in at Grandma Adams's, then head to Henderson for dinner with the Regier's. Grandma Regier liked to hide chocolate eggs in the backyard and have us hunt them.
Tomorrow we will attend our church service and have lunch with Greg's family. No kites or Easter egg hunts anymore, but we'll enjoy being together.
Happy Easter!

Easter wishes

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter holiday full of worship, celebration, family togetherness, and lots of chocolate! (Except for Sara and Angela - I don't wish you any chocolate. :o) )
