Paper roses, paper roses, oh how real those roses seem to be
But they're only imitation like your imitation love for me
Anyone remember those lyrics then? Gotcha singing now?
Soooo, out of the blue I received a lovely gift voucher from Joanna Sheen, sent by a special friend. And THAT kicked me off into playing with 'air drying' paper clay. It's fun and quite therapeutic, but it does smell a bit odd until it dries properly - Len always says I've got a sense of smell like a blood-hound but even he agreed (and ran away shouting 'Yeuch') when I stuck a freshly moulded shape right under his nose.
I played quite happily with coloured paper clay (you need the teeniest bit of coloured clay to mix in with a LOT more white, ask me how I know). Then I moved onto playing with pure white paper clay. This is the first card I made:
I used:
- 4" x 5.5" cream card blank, tent style
- copper coloured brushed satin mirri card for the backing
- cream card embossed/die cut using a Marianne Designables 'Swirls' folder (my favourite in that particular range), and then popped onto the copper card backing
- 'the rose' - made using white Martha Stewart Paper Clay and the large rose from the 'Romantic' moulds set, left to dry thoroughly and then painted using shades of gold and copper Twinkling H2O's. The fern - made using more white clay and the fern leaf from the 'Garden' moulds set, again left to dry and painted with green Twinkling H2O's
- I'd already popped a strip of Hobbycraft self adhesive ribbon across the card where I wanted the rose to sit and then the fun began -- how to stick paper clay embellishments to card?
- I tried ultra sticky tape - nope, not playing. Then E-6000 really strong glue - nope, also not playing. Then, the glue gun - yay, victory dance here! This is just in case you have a play - my guess is that something in the paper clay (which wasn't painted 'cos it's the back of the moulded embellishment) means the ultra sticky tape won't adhere properly, the really strong glue just sits there and sulks, but the glue gun works like a dream!

Wow...these are really cool. Thanks for the tip about the glue gun!
ReplyDeleteYour embossing/cut folder is beautiful. That is my favourite in that line as well!
ah Di how very clever is that? smiled a the "yeuch" by Len, and glad the paper clay finally stuck! never knew such things could be made, esp. the fern that is nice touch.. learn every day.. thanks for sharing, Shaz in Oz.x
ReplyDeleteHmmm I'm singing now lol I bought some of this Di and haven't used them yet will have to have a go now because this looks fab!! huggles Sue xx
ReplyDeleteYour talent is boundless, Miss! This is so gorgeous!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteIt's fab ' Miss'. I have that Marianne folder. Must use it more! I keep looking at clay & moulds in SU range thinking shall I, shan't I. Very tempted again now. :-) Anne x
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous card, Di. I love it, especially the fern. So beautiful. I played with paper clay a little while ago. Not seen any since, but I made everything in white then painted it afterwards. Didn't know it comes in colours!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers Di, would not have guessed they were paper!
ReplyDeleteOoh CLEVER! I love the look of your rose Di - and the gorgeous embossing folder too.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sarn xxx
So I guess you will be running round the playground now with your trusty gun gluing everything down in site eh!!
ReplyDeleteBootiful rose and leaf Miss. Got the Clay but where'd you get the moulds Miss? My shell EF arrived this morning.
Sitting in the garden at the Mo with one of the noo fountains tricking water down the cascading pots. Very calming. Blogger throwing its toys again so on my iPad but now its predictive text I have to contend with.
Love these colours BTW.
Hugs Mrs A.
Hi Di, what a lovely rose! And the card is beautiful too ... love the embossed/die cut panel. Glad you found something that would glue the rose down ... it would have been too tragic if you hadn't :) Spotted a cordless glue gun recently which I'm considering acquiring ... it's not pretty paper, it's a tool, so I'm sure it's allowed - what do you think? Hugs, Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeleteHumph, just got the wheels of the bus out of my head and now I`ve got Marie flippin` Osmonds paper roses stuck on a loop.
ReplyDeleteNever mind, it`s worth it to see your fabulous rose. Very clever and such a lovely colour.

Di this is so good x
ReplyDeleteHello Di,
ReplyDeleteThat E-6000 glue is wonderful; funny that it didn't do the job. Glue gun to the rescue, out of the holster and ready to go. Yay!
I have Flat Susan visiting me. We went to the Guadalupe Rubber Stamp store and I thought of you and Len.
Hugs to you both,
Kay
PS -- The card came out wonderfully.
This is so pretty Di that rose is gorgeous! I'm going to have try the glue I've heard its great for most things, if it has a small nozzle that would be perfect as I have stuck my fingers together before ha ha :) oh and my hand to the desk...

These moulded clay embellishments are great fun to make and they really look fabulous! Yours is very regal against that swirly embossed background. Vicky x
ReplyDeleteI hate it when the ultra strong glue just sits there and sulks!
ReplyDeleteGreat card. The nice thing about that clay is that the results look bulky but are pretty lightweight.
I really like that cut and emboss folder. I should investigate this further. No I shouldn't. *sigh*
Wow! Fantastic! :)

Gorgeous and I must warn you now it is mega addictive lol!
ReplyDeleteIf you want more MS moulds the best place, value wise, I found is Oyster stamps.
If you want to make loads of the flower you have then buy some Fimo Air Dry Light Clay. You get so much more of that clay for your money and you can paint it very easily.
Don't try to mix your MS clay with others - it won't work lol - I tried and ended up with a white embellishment that had blue dots in it.
The fern leaf did not work well with other clays. The MS is the best one to use for detail moulds. I could not get a good consistent result with any other brand. If you want to know more or need help - just give me a yell! Karen xx
Stunning!!! Hugs Juls
