Ian Hamilton Finlay – publications Air Letters & 1789 / 1794





On the occasion of the exhibition Ian Hamilton Finlay – 1789 / 1794 at Victoria Miro, London, 10 June – 31 July 2015 there are two catalogues published by Victoria Miro & Wild Hawthorne Press.
The publication Air Letters has an essay by Thomas A Clark and photographs by Robin Gillanders. The publication 1789 / 1794 is a catalogue of the works in the exhibitions curated by Pia Maria Simig, with commentaries by Stephen Bann. The two publications have an edition of 400 copies and, kept together with a red string, are as one catalogue available at Victoria Miro

Robin Gillanders – Ian's Fleet
a book published by Peter Foolen Editions in November 2012.
This book is showing a sequence of 15 photographs taken by Robin Gillanders of the fleet of boats made by Ian Hamilton Finlay. This 'regatta' of toy sail boats took place with Ian Hamilton Finlay on Lochan Eck, Stonypath, Little Sparta, in June 2002.
24 pages, softcover bound, 20 x 24 cm
printed in duotone by Lecturis, Eindhoven
edition of 300 copies
there is also a special limited edition published with this book:
an original photograph,  numbered and signed by Robin Gillanders in an edition of 25 copies. The silver gelatine photograph is printed by Robin Gillanders on Ilford Warmtone Multigrade FB paper (see image above)

Robin Gillanders is a photographer living in Edinburgh and he had a long-time association with Ian Hamilton Finlay, having done many collaborations with him. In 1998 the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh made an exhibition, and published a book, of his photographs of Little Sparta.

In 1994 I published, with Peninsula Foundation, Eindhoven, a collaboration of Ian Hamilton Finlay and Robin Gillanders, the photographic print Seasons for the portfolio Dear Stieglitz,. In 1995 Peninsula published Brount of Ian Hamilton Finlay with photographs by Robin Gillanders.
