Despite my fear of being a'sail on the open seas (deep water and all that!) one of my favorite things to photograph are the multitude of boats big and small that are moored in the many marina's around Perth. Strolling around Hillary's Marina I observed the contrast between the small but extremely attractive sailing boats parked only a stone's throw away from these huge, sleek motor launches and couldn't help wonder which would be the safest to brave the 'ocean wide' in..! After much musing, I decided...neither...nothing has changed, it's always going to be very deep water with 'nasty' things in it no matter how big the boat is, so I will continue to admire from the safety of the shore and let the brave mariners head off into the 'great blue yonder'.....!! How about you, 'set sail' or turn a key.....?
de beaux bateaux, et beau temps pour faire une balade en mer
ReplyDeleteSail, I think. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Grace!
ReplyDeleteI have only been sailing a few times. But, I have taken river cruises and I enjoy them. In fact, I am leaving Thursday for ten days, with eight of them on a river cruise in Holland, Germany and Switzerland. Who knows . . . a few photos might follow.
ReplyDeleteI like Jack's idea of a river cruise - not too far from shore and lots to see as you move along. The wide open sea - not so much for the same reasons as you.
ReplyDeleteI love boats and I love water. Although I joined the Navy long ago, I never did go to sea. But I've been on deep-sea fishing trips. Actually, I would rather stand on dry land and take beautiful photos like this one. Oui?
ReplyDeleteAbout sailing I quite agree with you ;-) --- In these photos I love, on the second, the sparkling sun light on the sea
ReplyDeleteThose are some BIG, fancy, expensive yachts! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for my "Aussie Bum" swimsuit to arrive in the mail for swimming at our local indoor pool/fitness center. It hasn't arrived yet! Maybe that's too much information?
A day out on one of those million dollar yachts would be fantastic but one day would be enough -I'm like you Grace - I like my feet on dry land!
ReplyDeleteDeep water far from shore? Probably a motor yacht, but a sailboat if at all possible. If it's big and sufficiently equipped, hey, head for Calcutta. I learned the rudiments of ssiling in my teens and haven't used them since. I want another chance.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. I don't have a fear of sailing but it just doesn't appeal to me. All my friends go off on cruises and I always take a pass. One time some friends talked me into going on a cruise from New York City to Nova Scotia. I had always wanted to visit Nova Scotia so I said okay. I loved it when we were in port and hated it when we were aboard ship. My idea of a great trip is to explore. Once I've explored the ship (one day) there is nothing left to see. I don't care to gamble or play shuffleboard or swim so, I was just bored. The sad thing is that we were only in port a matter of a few hours so exploring there was very short lived. But, like you I do enjoy taking pictures from the shore!
ReplyDeleteI knew we were kindred spirits. I'm not a fan of deep water either. Let's just go to Paris and forgetaboutit.

I like the smaller ones!
ReplyDeletebeautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteWell ... marinas (marinae??) are really just places to dream, aren't they??!!
ReplyDeleteSailing for me please, no motoring!
ReplyDeleteThis time, i'm not with you. I love sailing and traveling by boat! But maybe, being born in a sailors family can help..
ReplyDeleteI don't like sailing as I get too seasick. But I do love the sight of the glittering sea in the sun!
ReplyDeleteSet sail! We have been sailing for a couple of weeks in Croatia and I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI can understand your fears though. When the weather gets rough i simply wear a life jacket and rely on my husband to get us ashore :)
Sailing is hard work and only dafties do it. A powerful boat, with crew, is what you relax with.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE to sail on the open sea, especially when it is rough, haven't done it here yet, but, who knows what tomorrow will hold ;)
ReplyDeleteI do like being on the ocean... not sure about a long cruise ship trip, but an excursion on a luxury yacht would be nice :-)
ReplyDeleteA familiar view, the only difference is that you have the ocean out there instead of the (relatively) quiet Med.
ReplyDeleteIts a very useful article. We will be acquire lot of things from this site.

hmmm, fear of flying, fear of the sea...what would freud say? did you know hans christian andersen was also terrified of sailing and that's why he never toured the u.s. where he was in great demand.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely set sail.
ReplyDeletePlanes and now boats???
I see your point, Grace, I also spend a lot of time watching the variety of boats everytime I am at one of the marinas around here.
ReplyDeleteWow, Perth is becoming more like Monte Carlo every day!
ReplyDeleteI'm told by a boating friend that the larger the boat the less use it sees. So battered little dinghies are in constant use whereas the millionaires yachts stand idle for most of the year.
ReplyDeleteWait a sec .. you have a fear of flying and you dont like water/boats .. darlin' you cant travel far if you dont get over these phobias .. I think you need to come here to visit me .. there's an incentive .. LMAO!
ReplyDeleteI love to visit the marinas here in Seattle and I do love your photos, Grace! Such beautiful, blue water! I love boats, but I surely don't like to fly anymore -- too much of a pain in the -- well, you know! Hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
after 19 years living aboard I don't even want to LOOK at more boats! LOL
