Books Love You

I am heading out of town today on a road trip, so expect me to be scarce for the next couple days. Also, my chances at connecting with the internet will be uncertain at best; any comments you leave here during the day probably won't be posted until after I stop for the night.

Meanwhile, author Kris Reisz has made good on his promise to start a site with stories about life-changing books: Books Love You. He's looking for stories between 200-400 words about the books that have changed your life, more details here. Also, if you have a chance please spread the word about this project, as the more stories are shared, the more we can help others find a book that may change their lives.

Off to Haul

(This was supposed to post yesterday, but Lynn saved it as a draft instead of scheduling it to publish. She made it home safely late last night. -- Tom)

Today I'll be playing truck driver with one hand (sort of) tied behind my back, and then I must Deal With New York when I get home, so posts will probably be scarce until the weekend.

I have my very very very first sale over to tell on Friday over at the group blog, if you're interested in finding out what PBW was like as a teenager (my mother had white lips for about four years, that about sums it up.)

See you soon.

Road Trip

I'm heading out of town again, and not too sure if I'll have access to the internet where I'm going. Tom is also unavailable, so the blog and comments may remain static for a couple of days. I'll catch up as soon as I get back.

A couple of other things:

I've received a number of requests asking when the reprint of my Rebecca Kelly GCI novel Portraits of the Past will be released and where. This reprint is a trade paperback that will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart. I've e-mailed Guideposts and asked for a lay-down date, and as soon as they let me know I'll post it here.

My publisher has advised me that the first Darkyn novel, If Angels Burn will be translated into Thai. That's all the info I have on that so far; I'll keep you updated on that as the situation develops.

Have a good weekend, and see you when I get back.

We Don't Like Ike

I have to bail on you guys today to help out some friends who are on the move from Hurricane Ike.

Some weather info links:

The Orlando Sun-Sentinel's Hurricane Center page has lots of maps, updates and helpful info on hurricane preparedness and what to expect from Ike.

The National Hurricane Center's website offers the most current official advisories on Tropical Storm Hanna, Hurricane Ike and the remnants of Tropical Storm Josephine (which they're watching to see if it will regenerate into something.) For you folks on the Pacific side, they also have the latest on Tropical Storm Lowell.

New Orleans resident/author Poppy Z. Brite has been reporting via audio posts on the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav over at her LiveJournal.

We had to drive through Volusia County last night, and saw a lot of standing water between Cassia and DeLand, especially any place near the St. John's. The riverfront businesses and the roads leading to them appear to be still under at least a foot of water, and the river hasn't stopped rising yet, so there's more to come. I won't describe the smell.

Send all the good thoughts you can to the South, folks. We really need them.

Mini-Vacation

I'm taking off to hang with my non-writer friends at one of our favorite annual gatherings, and I need a little break from blogging, so I won't be around for the next few days. Tom is also taking some vacation time, so any new comments will be posted when I get back, probably on Monday.

As an experiment this year I'm taking a box of my titles and my favorite authors' new releases to hand out to unsuspecting strangers while I make the rounds. I promise to bring back lots of pictures and details on how free books fare at a non-publishing event. I'm also going to field test the character card (I made up one for PBW) and see what sort of reception that gets.

Have a good weekend.

Out of Here

I'm unplugging for today in order to take care of some personal stuff. I don't want you all to worry; barring major disaster I'll be back online tomorrow, hopefully with some announcements and news.
