Happy Birthday Pilgrim!

Hello Friends! Loooong time no see and I've missed you. I finally made a card (yes, just one so far) and wanted to share it here. First though I want to say thank you so very much for all the kind words and encouragement you've been sending my way. I've missed my card making and blogging a lot and though it's probably going to be a while before I can get back to either with any regularity I hope that you'll still pay me a visit now and then.

My card share today is a card I made for my brother's birthday. The vast majority of the cards I make are for OWH but quite awhile ago I saw a card created by fellow OWHer Pam T. that used this John Wayne stamp (from Stamper's Best) and I knew right away that I had to get it. My brother is a huge John Wayne fan, so much so that I'm thinking I can continue to use this stamp for his cards for years to come.

The embellishment that I created with the Stacking Star Dies (MFT) and a circle punch makes this card way too thick for mailing but since I knew I'd be hand delivering it I wasn't concerned. After some pre-planning in terms of layout, I printed the sentiment with a font that resembles carved wood directly onto the card base. Once that was done the rest was pretty quick. I stamped the image in Versafine Sepia Brown, inked the edges and coordinated a few papers from my scrap box. The star was die cut from a piece of heavy duty foil glued down to a heavy cardstock.

On a personal note I've been spending a lot of time working on resumés and building a couple of websites, one as a portfolio site where a potential employers can see my work and a second for freelance graphic design work, to make it easier to actively seek out and find new clients. I certainly don't plan to turn this into a 'Paula's Job Search' blog but I will definitely share what I'm doing and where I find myself heading personally and professionally because I value your ideas and opinions and though we've never met I consider you friends.

OWH Birthday Bash with Stampers Best

Hey there, welcome! I am very excited to be able to join in today and share a few Any Hero cards with you that I've made with some of the Stampers Best OWH Fundraiser Stamps that I have in my collection.

This card uses the SB set called Combat Boots along with a sentiment for the My Hero Sentiment set. After stamping the boots onto kraft paper I glue it a piece of chipboard from a cereal box to give it some heft and fussy cut them. I then used a brown colored pencil to add some depth to the shadows.

Western Border & Fishtail Flag Dies (My Favorite Things) • Print Paper - Grade School Stack (DCWV) • Diamond Plate Embossing Folder (Cuttlebug)

This card is made with the Grunge Stars & Stripes stamp. This is a lot more distressing than I'd typically do on a card but it was fun and I think it works well with the stamp. I used some old Tim Holtz Distress Inks (Fired Brick/Faded Denim) along with some scraps from my Bo Bunny Anthem paper pad and my scrap box.
Sentiment is from the Stampers Best My Hero Sentiment set •  Tab Dies - Blueprints 1 (My Favorite Things)
This last card was created with the SB stamp called Bald Eagle Portrait and the gold embossed 'HERO' element is from the Hero Panels stamp. I created it by stamping onto a very heavy card stock, fussy cut the letters and then coated it in Versamark so I could fully heat embossed it in gold.
Sentiment is from the Stampers Best My Hero Sentiment Set
I'm looking forward to writing a note of thanks into each one of these. The need for Any Hero mail is always great. If you'd like to know what I typically write inside mine check out this post. I know the mail is appreciated by our heroes and it makes me feel good too. Remember that writing Any Hero mail is something anyone can do, it can be written on store bought cards and you can get the kids involved using the OWH Coloring pages.

Many thanks for stopping by and to Stampers Best for their steadfast support of OWH and our mission. Now head on over to see what wonderful inspiration Julie has in store for you over at...

Early American Motorcar - OWH Sketch #184

I'm jumping in again to play along in the OWH Sketch this week. I've been working on going through all my stamps and inking up some of the ones I somehow managed to buy but not yet use. I'm pretty sure that phenomenon is not exclusive to me (*grin*) but I do think it's important now and then to slow down and make sure I'm taking the time to keep it about the 'creating' as opposed to the buying & collecting.

This great stamp (Early Motorcar) is by Stampers Best. Whenever I've shopped for OWH Fundraiser stamps there I've always managed to add a few of their other great designs to my cart too. I love this image and think it's perfect for masculine designs. I could see this being a birthday, thinking of you or Father's Day card too. Hope you like it too!

OWH & Tombow - July 4th Blog Hop

Welcome friends and Happy Independence Day! I am honored and excited to be participating in today's hop with our good friends at Tombow. If you've just happened on my post or find yourself lost  you'll find the the start of the hop at...

The card I have to share with you today is created with the Stampers Best Hero Panels stamp. This is one of many OWH Fundraiser stamps by Stampers Best, which means OWH gets $1 for every one sold. I used Tombow Permanent Adhesive, Power Adhesive Tabs and Mono Multi Liquid Glue to put it all together.

I started by stamping my image in black ink and then proceeded to paper piece several elements including the medal, its ribbon, the background behind the word art section and the blue canton of the flag. The Tombow Permanent Adhesive lays down in a thin, smooth layer making it ideal for paper piecing and the spill over is easily removed with a simple rubber cement pickup tool. While I do use a large ATG gun for my crafting I find it bit too bulky and uncomfortable when I am doing detail work like this so I always keep some small tape runners on hand.

I finished off some parts of the image with my markers and when it came time to glue the panel in place I opted for the Tombo Power Adhesive Tabs. They are super strong and have a slightly thinner profile than foam tape making them perfect for adding a bit of dimension yet virtually no bulk.

Just a tiny dab (the precision tip end is terrific) of the Tombo Mono Multi Liquid Glue was all it took to make sure that little silver star embellishment stayed right where I wanted it. I also used a small dab, as I always do, under my bows to keep them place.

Many thanks to our friends over at Tombow for supporting OWH and partnering with us for today's hop. Pictured below are the products I used today so you will know just what to look for the next time you're doing a little crafty shopping.  I encourage you to check out their entire line of adhesives and drawing products at their website too.

Thank you so much for stopping by to see me today. I hope you have a fantastic weekend among family and friends and that you'll take a moment to reflect on all those in our Armed Forces who sacrifice each and every day for the rest of us.

Now head on over to your next hop stop and see the crafty goodness that Jennie has in store for you today at...

Stampers Best: True Soldier & Combat Boots

I finally got a chance to ink up these stamps. They are both part of the line of OWH Fundraiser stamps sold by Stampers Best. If you've never visited them before or it's been a while you might want pay them a visit. Stampers Best has been a loyal supporter of OWH and they supply the rubber stamps for OWHers to stamp the backs of their cards. Their stamps are deep etched red-rubber and they have a nice selection of designs in addition to a bunch of great OWH patriotic designs. Both of these stamps are are pretty large for A2 cards, but this is exactly how I had pictured using them when I first decided to buy them...layered in a CAS design.

I had originally thought that I would use them strictly for Any Hero cards but seeing them in an actual card and thinking about it a bit I could also see a hero using it as a Thank You card or just to write home on too. What do you think?

CAS-ual Fridays Goes Red, White & Blue

I don't know about you but each year after the huge OWH Memorial Day Weekend Hop I find myself so full of ideas to try and cards to CASE that I want to spend the next week or two just creating non-stop.

The CAS-aul Friday Challenge this week is to use red, white & blue. I had quite a few small scraps left over from my 'one print card kit' so I used some for this card. (You can download the free kit  here.)

Stampers Best - Patriotic Stamps

I have quite a few patriotic stamps. As a matter of fact anyone who knows me can tell you that I own a lot of patriotic 'stuff' in general... from artwork, to scarves and clothes and jewelry and blankets and a huge 5'x8' flag that covers an entire wall in my work office... you get the idea. The attraction is magnetic to say the least and I've had it for as long as I can remember.

The Stampers Best patriotic stamps are among my favorites and I recently pulled a few out to make these cards.  The Flag (Old Glory) and Eagle (E Pluribus Unum) are part of the OWH Fundraiser Stamps. The Liberty Bell is not but it's irresistible none the less, as are many of the Stampers Best designs, so be sure to have a good look at everything when you visit.
