Folded Leaf Card

In lieu of the brand new origami line we brought into all eight of our stores last week, I wanted to share with you a quick and easy way to make a unique card using paper folding techniques. All you need is paper, a little adhesive, and good paper-folding fingers.

You can use any size rectangle, but I used a 12"X12" piece of thin scrapbook paper and cut it in half to 6"X12". To make the first fold, take the bottom right corner and fold up.

Next, fold the top right corner down.

After that, unfold it. You should see an X shaped crease on the right half of your paper.

Flip the paper over and accordion fold the top right corner down to the center of the X.

Keeping the accordion together, fold the bottom right corner up along the first crease you made.

The leaf should reveal itself as you flatten it out.

Next, using some double sided adhesive, glue down this flap so the leaf stays in place.

After that, fold the leaf flap down. This will create the top third of your card.

Then fold up the rest of your paper to finish the tri-fold card.

Voila! Your card is done. All you need to do is write your message, put in an envelope, and mail!

You can add variety to your collection of leaf cards by using many different kinds of sizes and patterns. I used the new blue line of 7" Chiyogami to create a tiny card as seen above.

4th July Bag

Happy 4th of July…almost. The 4th of July is definitely my favorite holiday of the year. It has been since I was a kid. The only expectation for the day is to have fun: BBQ, friends, family, and some fireworks if you are lucky.

This cute little pocket bag is perfect to hold poppers or crackers to give to the kids at your 4th of July gathering. It would also be great to hold a host of other treats.

Ingredients for this bag:

1 blue 12x12 for the bag
Red cardstock for stripes
White cardstock for stars
Adhesive
Scoring tool
Paper cutter

Directions:

1. Make 3 scores on a 12x12 at 6.5 inches, 6 inches, and then 5.5 inches.

2. Rotate the paper by a 90 degrees, and make 2 scores at 8.5 inches and 4 inches.

3. Crease both of these later scores and apply adhesive to the reverse side along one outside edge. Fold over and seal.

4. Fold the piece in half along the middle score with the sealed side facing out.

Now fold at the two remaining score lines in the opposite direction.

Put a small amount of adhesive in the middle of the inside short edge and adhere both edges together. You should now have your bag.

5. Punch two small holes on each side of the top of the bag.

Cut two 6 inch pieces of ribbon. Knot ribbon (I double knotted it to make it more substantial) on one end.

Thread ribbon through each set of holes and knot the opposite end to make the handles.

6. Cut ½ inch strips of red cardstock to use as stripes.

Place them on the bag and trim.

Adhere with adhesive.

7. Punch out stars from white cardstock

Adhere the stars to the bag.

Fill your bags with goodies!

Candy Box Favors

When I first saw these cute little candy boxes, I just knew I was going to have to make them. I just love little boxes, and what could be better than a little box filled with chocolate!

I have decided to make these little boxes for the office staff at my son's school for an end-of-the-year thank you; but these would make great favors for a wedding, baby shower, birthday, or just as a mean thank you or thinking of you gift.

Ingredients.
1 - 5 1/4 x 3 3/4 piece of cardstock for box
1 - 5 1/8 x 3 1/16 piece of cardstock for the sliding cover
3 - 1 x 3 1/4 strips of paper to cover chocolates
Paper Cutter
Scoring tool
Scissors
Adhesive
3 Hershey Nugget chocolate
Assorted Embellishments

Step One

Score the 5 1/4 x 3 3/4 piece of cardstock at 1/2 inch and at 1 1/8 inch on all 4 sides of the paper.

Step Two

Using your scissors, cut out the 3 squares at each corner on the score lines.

On the 5 1/4 inch sides, cut the score lines at the corners to the 1 1/8 score lines. This will create little flaps.

Hint: Trim the flaps slightly to make putting the box together a little easier.

Step Three

Place adhesive on the inside scored rectangles.

Step Four

Fold the short sides in first, followed by the long sides of the box. The flaps will fit under the long sides. Secure together. Now you have your box.

Step Five

To create the sliding cover, score the 5 1/8 x 3 1/16 piece of cardstock at 11/16, 2 1/4, 2 15/16, and 4 7/16 inch marks.

Step Six

Fold along the scorelines and around the box. Secure the overlapping edge with adhesive.

Using embellishments, decorate the slip cover.

Step Seven

Using the 3 1/4 x 1 inch strips wrap them around the chocolates and secure with adhesive.

Split Fold Birthday Card

Hi Everyone

This upcoming weekend will be my Dad's 80th birthday party. I wanted to create a special card for him. I decided on a split fold card, and am very happy with the results. I think it turned out masculine and classic. Those were the qualities I was going for. I had never used this fold for a card before, but I can already tell it is going to be one of my favorites.

It is simple to create if you would want to create a card that is similar!

Ingredients for this card
1 piece of 5.5x8.5 neutral cardstock to be used as the base of the card.
2 pieces of 2 1/8x5.5 cardstock. Once piece is your background color while the other piece is a coordinating pattern
1 piece of 2x5.25 cardstock in a coordinating pattern
1 piece of 2x2 carstock in your background color
1 piece of 1.75x1.75 neutral cardstock
Ribbon
Scoring Tool
Adhesive

Assorted Embellishments

***1 piece of 2x.75 cardstock in the background color
***1 piece of 1.75x.5 neutral cardstock
***Small birthday Stamp
***Large Number Stickers
***Large Rhinestone

items marked with *** were the items I used to create this as a birthday card

Step 1

Score your 8.5 x 5.5 piece of cardstock at the 2 1/8 inch mark and the 4.25 inch mark.

Step 2

Fold the card over like a normal card at the 4.25 inch score line. Fold the card back at the 2 1/8 inch score line. Your card should look like the image to the left.

Step 3

I stamped my birthday message on the 1.75x.5 piece of neutral cardstock. Then using adhesive centered it on the 2x.75 piece of background cardstock.

Step 4

Adhere the ribbon to the 2x5.25 piece of coordinating cardstock. Adhere this piece to the 2 1/8x 5.5 piece of background cardstock

Step 5

Adhere the numbers on the 1.75x1.75 piece of neutral cardstock. Adhere this piece to the 2x2 piece of background cardstock.

Step 6

Adhere the layered piece with ribbon on to the right base of the card. Adhere the 2 1/8x 5.5 piece of coordinating cardstock to the folded back piece of your card.

Step 7

Adhere the square number piece to the folded back piece of the card. Adhere the small layered greeting on the top right of the ribbon and embellish with a rhinestone.
