Binding done on second quilt

The binding is done on my second quilt that I am getting ready for the quilt show.  I showed this quilt before.  It is one of the samples for the Jelly Roll Race 1600 that I did with my quilt guild.  That was a fun day.

After the quilt show I will gift this quilt to my grandson, Lucas.  Since he is only 8 months old, he may not realize the significance of this quilt.  LOL!  But eventually he will see the monkeys, and the other jungle animals along with a few cows, chickens and lambs.  When I saw this jelly roll at the quilt shop, I was drawn to it because of the monkeys.  After I assembled this quilt, I noticed the cows, chickens, lambs and other non-jungle animals.  There is even a row of buttons in this quilt.

My fingers are really sore, so I am not binding for a few days.  I need to sew by machine the next binding onto my bear paw quilt but I will wait a few more days before I start the hand sewing on the back.

Not much else is happening here.  It is "baby day" today.  We usually go to see our grandbabies on Wednesdays, and today is the day!

One Down, Three to Go

This is my Shadow Churn Dash quilt that I made from a friendship group challenge.  I finished the binding on it today.  I posted pictures of the blocks in process back in 2010.  I finished it and it was quilted in 2011.  Our quilt guild is having a quilt show in July so I finally got busy applying the binding.  I have three more quilts that need binding, and sleeves.

Now that the binding is done, I will get the sleeve constructed and sewn on.  I normally do not apply sleeves to my quilts.  Since it is going into a show, the quilts all need sleeves so that they can be hung on frames at the show.  I am enjoying the hand stitching, but my hands are getting sore.  I need to take breaks now and then.  I cannot stitch all day anymore so I take breaks.  Sometimes I will stitch for a couple of hours in the evening, then sew a couple more hours the next day.

Yesterday at our LAFS (Ladies Academy Finishing School) meeting I stitched on binding during some of the time I was there.  I think I spent more time table hopping and socializing than I did stitching!  LOL!

Last BOM Block Finished

The last BOM block is finished.  I sewed it together yesterday.  Last night I sewed the unit together.  I am ready for the borders!  Yay!

Now my mission is bindings, bindings, bindings.  Yay!

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers.

Next to last block

This is another block I finished to complete all the blocks for my Saturday Sampler BOM.  In June we receive the border fabric and instructions for completion.  We received some directions in the last block for the borders, but not the fabric.  It doesn't do me much good without the prepaid fabric.  Usually the shop offers a "finishing kit" for purchase.  This time the border fabric payment was part of our start up fee as this BOM includes borders.  Many of the BOMs do not include borders, hence the finishing kit that is provided if you choose to purchase it.

Now that this program is coming to an end, I am anxious to receive the last block (borders) so that I can finish this project.  It will not become a UFO, but a finished top.  Once the top is done I will send it out for quilting.  It will be the first time I have completed the entire top in a BOM project that I have participated in sponsored by a quilt store.

Last year we did basket blocks.  There are nine baskets on point, then the borders surrounding it.  I have all nine baskets finished and sewn together into the medallion center, but not the rest of the quilt.  I want to design a different finish for the borders which I have not taken time to do yet.  I want to make sure I have enough fabric from the finishing kit to make my redesigned borders (and math is not my favorite subject).

Since tomorrow is "baby day" I will not have the time, nor the energy, to do any sewing.  It takes all my energy to "play" with the babies.  I am sure the little guy will be crawling.  He was almost there last week.  Big sister is talking more understandable words every day.  Some of them are in English, and some of them are in Spanish. It takes me a while to figure out which language, then the word.  Daddy translates for me often.  LOL!

Until next time.....

More BOM Blocks

Last week I sewed two more blocks on my Atkinson Designs BOM.  The other two blocks were sewn in previous months.  The four blocks were to be sewn together to make a unit.  There is another unit I need to sew together once I sew the last block in that unit. It is a larger and more complicated block, but it is a very pretty one which includes pinwheels (one of my favorite designs).

Yesterday morning I attended our 11th BOM class.  Next month is our last meeting on this particular BOM project.  We will receive our final piecing and border instructions.  If I can get caught up on the three blocks that I need to finish, I will be ready to piece together the units and get the borders sewn and applied to the top.  That will be a whoopee moment for sure!

Not much else has been happening in the sewing room here other than moving things around, sorting out quilts, tops, and projects (my never ending process).  And of course, looking for things.  It seems that that I am forever looking for something.

Recently I was viewing Teresa's stash organization.  She has everything sorted, in bins, and labeled.  What organization!  I wish I had one tenth of her organizational skills.  She is phenominal!  I AM making progress on my downsizing program.  I have been donating some quilts and tops, gifting some quilts, and donating UFOs and other things, like notions, patterns, dolls, etc.  It is a slow process for me.  It is difficult to let go of things of mine, and my mothers, that have been collected for over a period of 30 years.

Have a good week.  Happy Mother's Day to all.

Another Retreat

Passionate Purple Quilter

What is up with Blogger?  I don't like changes.  If something is not broken, why fix it?

Last weekend I attended a quilt retreat.  We had a great time.  I finished a quilt back and passed my top and back to a long arm quilter who attends our retreats.  I have been working on that quilt for two or three years.  Whooppie!

I also sewed three BOM blocks.  I hope I can post pictures of them.  Here goes.

Two weekends ago I attended a guild quilt class taught by Lyn Mann.  Here is a picture of my finished block.  I am supposed to make eight more, but I believe this is the only block I will make and it will become a baby quilt. The class was great and Lyn is a super teacher.  I am just not happy making these small curved pieces.  This block is 18 inches square.

Liebester Blog Award

The Liebester Blog Award has been awarded to me and my blog by Angie from Timber Hill Threads. There are five things that I am supposed to do after accepting this award. I am supposed to pick five blogs that I would give this award to, and notify them in a comment on their post. These blogs are to have 200 or less followers. Truthfully, I cannot pick only five blogs to give this award. I want to give every blogger on my side bar this award. I cannot pick only five. I have already broken the rules, and for that I apologize. I am also supposed to cut and paste the logo into my post. I cannot do that since I have tried to do it and have failed. So again I apologize. It seems that I am a poor follower of the rules, but my heart is in the right place. Every quilter on my side bar has inspired me in my craft. That is why I have listed them in my side bar. All of my favorite bloggers (on my side bar) who have 200 or less followers please go to Angie's blog to see what the Liebester Blog Award is about and decide if you want to accept the award. I feel that you all deserve it. Happy Quilting
