More Crumb Blocks

A while back I found some packets of blocks in a basket on my sewing table.  In one of the packets were these leftover blocks from previous projects.  The blocks were a few 4.5 inches square, 5.5 inches square, and 6.5 inches square measurements.  Today I added some strips to the smaller blocks to make them 6.5 inches square then I added them to my crumb block bin.  These little blocks have been shuffled around on my sewing table for a few weeks.  I decided that today would be the day I would work with them and make them measure 6.5 inches square so they would work well with my other crumb blocks.

As I was going through my crumb blocks bin I found several groupings of blocks with notes attached to them.  I guess the last time I had them out at our LAFS meeting some ladies pulled the blocks with a common color or fabric into groupings.  I laughed as I sorted through these blocks.  I was revisiting some of the fabrics that I had used in these blocks and also who might have given me the fabric in some of the blocks.  It was like visiting with old friends.

I also have sewn together two baby quilts this week, one a pink one and one a blue one.  When someone comes over who can hold up these quilts I will get pictures of them to post.  I am waiting for a friend to let me know what gender her daughter-in-law's baby is so I can hold on to either the pink one or the blue one.  If she decides to wait until the baby is born, then I guess I need to hold on to them both until November!

Turquoise Star

This quilt looks like a kaleidoscope design, but the pattern is actually a star design.  I won most of these blocks a few years ago from my guild's block of the month program.  I made a couple more blocks so that I would have enough to make this top.  Then it sat for a few years.  Last month I sewed borders on the top and gave it to the machine quilter to quilt for me.  She did a great job and I had the quilt back in about a week.  I sewed a striped fabric for the binding and finished it in time to take it to the June meeting where I donated it to our Community Quilts program.  This is another UFO finished this year.

I also finished a baby quilt the other day which was also a UFO.  I will take a picture of it and post it soon.
