The Christmas Shoes
It was almost Christmas time
There I stood in another line
Trying to buy that last gift or two
Not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me
Was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing around like little boys do
And in his hands he held
A pair of shoes
And his clothes were worn and old
He was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say
Sir I wanna buy these shoes for my Momma please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry Sir?
Daddy says there's not much time
You see, she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes will make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
If Momma meets Jesus, tonight.
He counted pennies for what seem like years
And cashier says son there's not enough here
He searched his pockets franticly
And he turned and he looked at me
He said Momma made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir
What am I gonna do?
Some how I’ve got to buy her these Christmas shoes
So I layed the money down
I just had to help him out
And I'll never forget
The look on his face
When he said Momma's gonna look so great.
Sir I wanna buy these shoes, for my Momma please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry Sir?
Daddy says there's not much time
You see, she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes will make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful,
If Momma meets Jesus tonight.
I knew I caught a glimpse of heavens love as he thanked me and ran out.
I know that God had sent that little boy to remind me
What Christmas is all about
Sir I wanna buy these shoes for my Momma please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size.

Being a spiritualist and always inspired by spiritual songs and mantra chants, I've always surrounded myself with tunes and verbal chants on a daily basis. Since Christmas is approaching and Compassionate Christ constantly lingering in my thoughts, I felt the inner-calling to share one of my 2 favourite yuletide festive songs being Bob Carlisle's "The Christmas Shoes" , a touching song that makes us aware of the true essence of Christianity and all other good religions. Listening to the beautiful yet heart-wrenching lyrics of this song always leaves me in a gush of emotions, time and time again, as it makes me feel the pain and the anxiety of the young boy out to buy the last gift for his mother.
Holy festivals are a time not only for joy and paganistic celebrations. In this case, it is not only about Santa, not the christmas tree, not the race to wrap the perfect gift nor the anticipation of receiving expensive ones. But more importantly, it is the time for switching our minds to focus on humanity, to commemorate and cherish Christ's love for all mankind. We honour his loving kindness and immeasurable compassion by sacrificing our needs to provide love, care and comfort to other sentient beings, not only for a short period but whenever possible. Instead of being motivated to give expensive branded gifts to a selected few as a measurement of how much we love them, that same motivation could be channelled to bringing a lil' joy into the hearts of the more unfortunate souls that so need us to reach out to them.
There are no great things, only small things with great love. Happy are those. ~Mother Teresa
The Christmas Shoes is a universal story of the deeper meaning of destiny, of sharing humanity and carries an important message, that sometimes the smallest things in life can make all the difference so don't wait for big, materialistic opportunities in life. I truly believe situations befall upon us for a reason, always! Hence, please make this a truly special and memorable Christmas. Open your eyes, open your hearts and you will believe in the miracle in giving!
I wish you peace, I wish you love!
"Walk on a trail of loving kindness
Walk on a path of compassion
And all else around you will be beautiful."
Every Blessing
