The events at a Ranch Rodeo are as follows: ranch bronc riding, team penning, stray gathering, team branding and wild cow milking. Some rodeos add more events it just depends. While the Wild Cow Milking event produces the most laughs I've never seen this done on a ranch but I'm sure at some time or another it may be necessary. For those that read Pioneer Woman - her brother in law Tom Drummond's Ranch along with SweetWater Cattle rocked and ended up as the champion ranch team. Whoohoo! The cow AND the hand in the first shot are catching some SERIOUS air! hehe... I can just see a commercial coming out of action like that for a "new and improved cowboy athletic boot"..LOL
That last photo cracked me up! "I got her by the tail now! C'Mon Bessie, settle down now, so I can milk ya!" Oh, yeh, Bessie's gonna relax enough to produce any milk after all that commotion. lol!
I gotta see that sometime. Must be hysterically funny!

We just had to handle a couple of seriously rank wild cows. As we were doing so, I thought to myself, those cowboys who do the wild cow milking are INSANE. These cows we had trapped were charging fence (quite consistently) throwing panels, trying to climb over panels (one succeeded and got away). I could not even imagine putting a rope on that and trying to milk it, lol. I've watched it plenty at AZ Ranch Rodeos, and my hat's off to every cowhand who tries it.
Seeing a ranch rodeo has got to be much more satisfying to see, is it not?

Hey I was just google"ing" along today and came across your blog!! I am Amy Potter...a team member of the sweet water and Drummond team of the WRCA!!! I am a full time cowgirl and work with my husband everyday!!!! It was so neat it be famous from a small town for our rodeo abuilties....and have a chance at the World Finals....small word to look on here and see that someone left amarillo and still remembered OUR name!!!!
