Holiday Open House
Wow -- I'm really on a blogging roll lately! (If only I could keep it up -- but I know what this month has in store for Olie & Evie). And while we are on that note, I have a great big HUGE announcement. Rumor has it word is already spreading around town -- that would be the town of Lewisville, Idaho -- that there is going to be a HUGE Holiday Open House. Yep, the rumors are true, and here is the flyer to prove it.
So, there you have it ladies. A Holiday Open House at the Lewisville Community Center. There will be lots of seating and best of all air conditioning in case the weather is really warm. And if it's cold, well an even better reason to come on out and join us. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tiffany Jenkins of Tiny Seamstress Designs is going to WOW us by showing off her designs in a trunk show. Patterns are great, but there is nothing like seeing the finished project in person.
I (Evie) will be doing demonstrations at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. (and probably any time in between that). You are thinking what is she going to demo? Well, I hate to ruin the surprise, but I will be showing you how to use the Quick Curve Ruler created by Sew Kind of Wonderful that will change your life! And if that isn't enough, I will be showing you some brand new rulers for half square triangles (and other quilting designs) that will change your life forever! I am serious -- you will be really impressed and won't want to miss it. And last but not least, I will be doing a fun demonstration for a quick table runner (or however big you want to make it). And another hint -- I will have precuts for new fabric lines introduced at International Quilt Market that you won't see in stores until September/October ;o)
Quilts will be on display that I have made for the holidays -- and just for fun. Okay ... so you still need another reason to come out! Well, Danielle Andrews of Antique Recreation will be there with items for display and purchase. If you have not seen Danielle's work you will want to find out who she is. This woman can seriously take any old item and bring it back to life! She is amazing and I am always looking for a project for her to do for me because she's that good. So if you are in the mood for a new piece of furniture or some cool decoration you will want to stop by.
We will be at the Community Center from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. So just to recap ... Trunk Show, demos, notions, patterns, fabric, quilt kits, furniture and decorations .... (and don't forget drawings and prizes)!
Okay I've put it all out there but I still have one more card to play ... my sister, Julie, has offered to help me with the refreshments. Well that should start your mouth watering right there! Cookies, cakes, who knows what else she might come up with ...
I think that's all. See you on the 26th!

The latest craze!
I try and read several quilter's blogs so I can follow what is going on in the quilting world. They inspire me, teach me new things and help me reach outside of the box myself as we all get stuck in a rut sometimes of not feeling creative enough!
I noticed this week that the latest craze is called "Jelly Roll Jam" which is a pattern put out by Fat Quarter Shop -- and it's free! We will have some copies available at our open house on Saturday ;o) We have many of the fabrics pictured below in our shop -- or similar designs. Or, reach outside of your box and use something you love! A Moda jelly roll will make 2 baby quilts ... which means a Riley Blake rolie polie would make 1 baby quilt -- my head is spinning with the ideas!

Chevy Daze for a baby girl
This week I pieced together and quilted a Chevy Daze pattern for a customer. She was giving it as a gift today at a baby shower. This fabric is "Spring House" by Moda. It is so soft and feminine. Rather than just quilt the Chevron in the center, I added a little ruffly border to each one. Love the way it turned out. If you look close you can see it on the back.
It started raining right when I was ready to take pictures or I would have tried to get a better close up of the front. Being it turned into a rainy day here I spent more time in my quilting room and straightening the shop some. We have this sweet little vintage wooden ironing board that we are using for a display. Thought I would share a picture of it -- matches the Mimi yardage perfect.
I think I am going to sit down tonight, put my feet up and do some stitching. These patterns for dish towels came in this week and I can't wait to make one up. Which one would you make? Animal Stackers or Fresh Picked, I love them both. Hmmmm.....
Happy sewing or stitchin' or whatever you are doing this weekend!

I love flowers too -- see my sweet hollyhock in the background -- matches perfect. |

Vintage ironing board stacked with quilts, fat quarters, jelly rolls and yardage. Scrap baskets on the floor as well as a cute yellow bucket filled with Sasparilla fat quarter bundles. |

Birthday discounts
We will be offering birthday discounts to our customers. If you can provide valid driver's license showing us it is your birthday, we will give you 10% off of your purchase. This discount will apply to fabric, patterns and notions we have in stock. This offer will be good 14 days prior to or 14 days following your birthday ;o) Sweet!
We now have the Just In Nine patterns in stock. This quilt is so cute and versatile. It uses 9 fat quarters for the top along with 3/4 yard for a border. I have seen it made up in several different fabrics and am amazed how it always looks so different. Love it!

May Finishes
Despite all the happenings going on around here at Olie & Evie, I was able to get a few personal projects finished for Olie and myself this month. Thought you folks might like to see a few photos of some fun projects we completed!
I have had Olie's quilt at my house for months (well since Christmas 2012) she pieced from Countdown to Christmas by Sweetwater using the pattern "a la mode" by Thimble Blossoms. So with the weather here in Idaho being so bleak and feeling a lot like winter weather I quilted it up. Pretty darn cute and Olie will be all ready for Christmas.
Here's another finish using the fabric Mama Said Sew -- another Sweetwater fabric line. (Don't worry, we have them all and more to come)! The pattern used was from Carolina Patchworks called "Sweet Garden." This isn't Olie's personal favorite, but I am loving it -- so it had a personal invitation to stay at my house and accepted!!! I'm so lucky -- thanks Olie ;o)
Olie made this sweet little table runner for her mother-in-law from a fabric line called "Grandmother's House." She used a charm pack and added a little border. No pattern, just something we came up for our beginning quilting class. It is definitely going to be cherished at her mother-in-law's house. I experimented with a darker color thread on the cream border -- not sure about it but Olie is good about letting me experiment and she liked it just fine.

Lastly, we made another quilt from Snap Pop by Sandy Gervais using our very own pattern "Oh My Hex!" It's just as bright and fun as the green one featured on the cover of our pattern. Both are pictured here . . .
Hope you enjoyed viewing them as much as we enjoyed making them!

The Pattern Basket
Check out these brand new patterns we just added to our etsy shop from The Pattern Basket. They would be darling table toppers, quilts or wall hangings, in almost any design/color wave. We have been drooling over these and will be sewing these up for for our own personal quilt collections and will post photos. Start looking for your favorite precut to sew one up for yourself! (We are leaning towards the Boho collection by Urban Chik and hopefully some Baby Jane by Cosmo Cricket)
